34-Operation: Drive The Principal Crazy

With Peep's new invisible shoulder cape he could go to school looking like everyone else. However he did not feel like everyone else. At nine and a half years young he felt like a misfit amongst the other third graders.

After Peep lost the playoff game—on purpose, Anabel the Terrible and the rest of the kids treated him like he had the CoronaVirus. If he sneezed in class instead of the usual bless yous or gesundheits the entire class yelled, "Ew..." and covered their faces.

Peep wanted to ditch the cloak of invisibility because now he felt truly invisible. He decided that during lunch he would take off the magic capelet and see what would happen.

Even though he loved peanut butter he was stuck sitting with the outcasts at the peanut allergy table. Even they acted as if he had the plague.  He doubted even the lunch lady would notice his transformation back to the coolest kid in the third grade.

Before lunch Peep slipped into the boy's lavatory near the principal's office. He hid in a stall untied the cape and shoved it into his back pocket. As he exited the bathroom he bumped into Principal Bowman's wideload derriere.

"Watch where you're going young man!" Mrs. Bowman looked over her shoulder.

When she got a good glimpse of Peep she asked, "It's not crazy hair day is it?"

"No ma'am." Peep tried to escape.

Mrs. Bowman slid her pointed cat rimmed glasses down her pointy nose. She bent over to get a better look at Peep. "Then what's with this get up mister? You look like you're opening for KISS."

"Who ma'am?" While Peep knew the band Kiss fairly well he wasn't in the mood for Mrs. Bowman's grilling.

"With your freaky dyed hair and all those fake tattoos you look like you could be the opening act for AC DC!"

Peep smiled and said, "Thank you ma'am."

Mrs. Bowman became more annoyed than usual. "That was NOT a compliment mister! March into my office Mr. Peep. I'm calling your mother."

"She's busy," said Peep. As he walked away from Mrs. Bowman, he couldn't see her face turning bright red or her arms flailing in the air.

He wanted to return to his third grade classroom. Pretty Miss Heather was coming. Today the art teacher would be teaching them how to make paper mache'.

Mrs. Bowman screamed after him. "Don't you dare walk away from me while I'm talking to you! When your mother gets here I'll see to it that you're suspended for a week! Do you hear me?"

As Mrs. Bowman continued ranting in the distance Peep removed the invisible cloak from his back pocket. He tied it around his shoulders and turned back into a normal looking 3rd grader.

---

A few minutes later Mrs. Bowman burst through the door as Miss Heather demonstrated a layering technique with newspaper dipped in a paste of flour and water. She gingerly applied the pieces onto a large pink balloon.

"What is the meaning of this?" Mrs. Bowman shouted. "Why didn't you answer the intercom?"

Miss Heather held up her hands covered in gloppy paste. "Sorry, I'm in the middle of a lesson."

Mrs. Bowman's face got even redder. "What if it had been an emergency?"

Miss Heather wiped her delicate hands on her tight pink apron. "Is it?"

Mrs. Bowman searched the room for Peep. "There he is." She noticed nothing was amis. His hair was it's usual sandy blond color and he didn't have a single tattoo.

With the back of her hand Miss Heather pushed back a few strands of platinum blond hair from her face. She was stunning and always reminded Peep of Barbara Eden from, "I Dream of Jeannie." He'd fallen in love with her while watching reruns as he stayed home sick from school.

Whenever Miss Heather passed by his desk she smelled of honeysuckles and oranges.

Miss Heather didn't care for Mrs. Bowman. The overweight middle aged principal looked down upon the young, lovely art teacher. She tried to make her feel small whenever she could.

"Well... Miss Heather... kindly finish up with this art mess. Once you've gathered all of your belongings onto your little metal cart..." Mrs Bowman sneered, "Please steer by my office so we may discuss neater art lessons for the near future. Or perhaps you'd like to join the janitor afterschool for a cleaning session?"

"How humiliating," thought Peep. "How dare this mean cow treat his favorite teacher like a child?"  As he placed the last few strands of gloppy newspaper onto his blue balloon he formulated a plan:  Operation: Drive The Principal Crazy.

As Mrs. Bowman was about to exit, she crossed to Peep's desk and said, "As for you Mr. Peep... I'm watching you! No more funny business!"

Peep shrugged his shoulders.

As Mrs. Bowman turned to exit, she slipped on a gooey newspaper strip. Splat! Mrs. Bowman came tumbling down.

All of the students giggled while Mrs. Bowman rolled from side to side struggling to get up. She looked like a turtle that had fallen on its back.

Miss Heather stifled a laugh and with a mischievous grin said, "Don't just watch children. Help Mrs. Bowman up."

A dozen children with pasty, gooey fingers rushed to Mrs. Bowman's aid. As they helped lift the principal they left sticky white handprints all over her bright green pantsuit.

As the children continued pawing her the flustered Mrs. Bowman said, "That's quite enough!" When she saw her reflection in the door's glass she gasped. "Well I never!" She turned angrily to Miss Heather and exclaimed, "I hereby decree NO MORE MESSY CRAFTS!"

Under her breath Miss Heather whispered, "Worth it..." Secretly she pulled her phone out of her apron pocket and snapped a photo of Mrs. Bowman's fat fanny as she exited the classroom.

Once Mrs. Bowman had slammed the door, the class roared with laughter.

Peep was pleased. Somehow he knew this wouldn't be the end. He had a feeling Mrs. Bowman would still be calling his mother. She'd try to pin the entire incident on him. He had to agree with the darling Miss. Heather. "Worth it."
