30-Peep Visits Fairy World
Peep woke up in a field of shimmering rainbow grass. As he surveyed the landscape he thought he must be dreaming. He took a long deep breath. The air smelled of cotton candy and fresh baked bread. He stood up and took in the view. Sprinkled throughout the tall grass were wild flowers of every color and shape imaginable. He let his fingers brush across the flowers. As he did they opened up and played a dulcet tone. He ran around the meadow touching as many flowers as he could composing a melody.
Peep wondered, "Did I die?"
As he reached for a glittery sky-colored bluebonnet it bloomed. Locket appeared inside. She yelled, "Surprise! Gotcha!"
"Locket?" Peep asked, "Where are we?"
"Welcome to Fairy World my beloved." Locket giggled.
Peep gasped. "Fairy World? My beloved?" He wanted to protest but he knew Locket would win. She could always outwit, outplay and outlast him.
"Sure..." Locket slid down the stem of the flower as if it were a fireman's pole. "I always visit you and I thought it was high time you visited me."
Peep fell back in in the mysterious grass. He was pretty sure he heard, "Ouch!"
Peep asked, "Did you ever think of asking me first? Huh Locket? That's what normal people do before they transport their beloved to another time and dimension!"
Locket layed next to Peep. "You're funny. I'm not a normal people I'm a fairy!"
"Okay... take me home, Locket. I've got school in the morning." Peep hoped maybe a direct approach might work.
"Sure, sure..." Locket persuaded, "But first I wanna show you around the place. Remember no time will have passed so you'll still get your beauty sleep."
Peep sighed. "Okay but make it a fast tour." Then he remembered, "Wait! Humans can't be here! If your mother sees me--"
"Don't be such a baby Peep! First of all my mother is at an an Enchanted World Conference remember? Secondly you're wearing the Cloak of Invisibility."
"The Cloak of Invisibility? So we're playing Harry Potter now?" Peep shook his head in unbelief.
"Harry who?" Locket asked. "I'm still working on the name but essentially I used my magic to make a cape which makes you invisible."
Peep was intrigued. He sat up and asked, "Can I use this cloak in my world?"
Locket sat on his shoulder. "I don't see why not..."
Peep got an idea. "Could you modify this cloak so that it could hide my tattoos?"
Locket thought about it. "Maybe... I am a clever fairy. But why would you ever want to hide your marvelous tattoos?"
Peep wondered how a fairy could be so clever and so dumb at the same time. "Locket people in the third grade don't have tattoos! My mom could get in trouble. She could lose her job. I could get kicked out of school. IT'S ALMOST BEACH SEASON!"
"Okay, okay... Geesh you don't have to get your feathers ruffled. I'll see what I can do... But first the tour." With that Locket whisked them into the heart of Fairy Town.
"Be careful where you step Peep. You're invisible but not a ghost." Locket took hold of a lock of Peep's pink hair and led him down Main Street.
Peep's eyes grew wide as he took in the picturesque town. All of the buildings reminded him of pastel colored gingered bread houses. Each shoppe was more ornate than the next. Frosted window panes, matching shutters and roofs with tiny doors of every shape and color. No two buildings were the same. It reminded him of quaint European towns in Austria or Switzerland. Thankfully the road happened to be wide enough so he didn't squash anyone or anything. Peep wondered why there were roads at all. He didn't see cars or bicycles and every fairy floated from shop to shop.
"Would you like a treat?" Locket led Peep to the best fairy bakery in town. "Stay here," Locket ordered. "You'd never fit through the door." Locket zipped down and opened an oval shaped red door into "Fernando's Sweet Shoppe."
Fairies whizzed by Peep. Just as he wondered what would happen if anyone bumped into him someone did. A pearly pink fairy holding a basket of freshly baked baguettes bumped Peep's arm scattering the fragrant bread all over the pristine street below.
"What the?" Pinky darted down and gathered up the loaves. Since she was known for being clumsy she didn't think too much about bumping into an invisible boy. She also happened to be a bit scatterbrained. What she lacked in intellect she gained in sweetness. "I need to be more careful next time."
Peep held his breath. He looked left and right and slowly revolved his body to make sure no other fairies ran into him. Finally Locket returned holding a pink box tied up with red and white striped twine.
Peep breathed. "Locket get me outta here. Some fairy bumped into me. I don't think she noticed but come on!"
"Uh oh," was all Locket said before beaming them to the top of the tallest pine tree in Fairy Forest.
Peep clung to a branch as the pine tree swayed back and forth with the weight of him. "Locket, what happens if I fall in Fairy World?"
Locket answered, "You get hurt silly. So don't fall."
"Easy for you to say..." Peep climbed down the pine finding a sturdier branch.
Locket followed him. "The view is not as spectacular from there."
Peep grunted. "Locket I'm trying not to fall to my death."
Locket shrugged. "People don't die in Fairy World."
Peep objected, "But you'd said I'd get hurt!"
Locket shrugged. "Hurt yes. Die no." Then she opened the festive pink box showing Peep the most delightful donuts he'd ever seen. The sweetness surrounded him like fragrent butterflies. He almost slipped from his perch.
"Why do they smell so good? Peep asked.
"Because they are good," Locket answered popping a delicate raspberry filled cruller into her mouth.
