2: We discover who the staff belonged to

I was the first to arrive in the chamber. Shortly after me my father arrived. "Father." I bowed. "Alexander, who are these children?" We sat down. "The girl's name is Heira and the boy is Demetri." He sighed. "What are they?" Before I could answer they also arrived. "Hi!" They bowed. With an uncertain glance at my father, I smiled. "Welcome, sit." Heira sat on a wooden bench and Demetri on some cushions. "Heira, yes? Why are you here?" My father looked at her with a demanding expression. She fiddled with her new dress. It was a knie-length chiton. She wore leather sandals and her arms and ears were decorated with golden bands. "We, uhm, I, had a dream about us needing to come here." I remembered my dream about her. "How do you know of this world and how did you get here?" Now it was my turn to speak. "Father, Heira is a witch and Demetri a dragon. They acompanied me on my mission to save you. Do you not remember?" Two years can be long and with all the problems my father have, he forgets some information. "Yes, I remember now. What happened in your dream?" Heira told us to close our eyes. She showed us her dream.

We were in a big, cold room. I could see faint paint on the walls and on the floor was Greek designs. A man entered the door,"What should I do?" He muttered to himself as he sat down. In his hand he held a staff. "Alexander Hess, who are you?" He looked up from the table, right at me. Even though I knew he could not see me, his gaze unsettled me. Suddenly two men emtered the room. They were dressed as gaurds. "Lycus, you are responsible for the death of your wife and the queen. Do you deny this?" He stood up. I could see how tired he was. "I am innocent!" Clearly they did not believe him. The men attacked him. Lycus held up his staff,"Gonto!" Sadly his spell did not word and the gaurds took him down. Before he died, Lycus muttered one sentence."Alexander, my staff."

The vision ended. Everyone was looking at me. "How did he know your name?" I was as confused as everyone else. How can a stranger know me? His desperate expression on his face when he died, was still in my head. Still his staff seemed fimiliar and his eyes. "Alexander?" I looked in direction of the voice. "Yes, Father?" He frowned. "Who was that man?" I shook my head. "I do not know." Heira smile engouragely. "Don't worry. It'll be okay." I tried to smile, but my thoughts were on another place. Lycus. I am sure someone told me about this man. Suddenly I saw a vision from my past.

I was sitting on my grandfather's lap. (He died due to another vampire who killed him.) He was smiling,"Alexander, my boy, do you want to hear a story?" I was still a young boy and I yelled my answer in excitment,"Yes, Grandfather! Tell me about the wizard who lost his staff!" He smiled and ruffled my hair. "Alexander, I have told you the story a dozen times. Why would you want to hear it again?" I smiled and gave him a light punch. "It teaches me that no one is undefeatable even if you are powerful." He laughed and nodded. "Alright, let me start.
There was once a man named Lycus. He was the most powerful wizard at the time. Now this man had a daughter, but we will not talk about her right now. One day Lycus told the king of Greece he was going to put a spell on the country. The king captured him and put him in his dungeons. Lycus lived there for years and one day the king became very ill. The only person who could save him was Lycus. The queen freed him in order to save her husband. When the king was saved he offered Lycus place as their royal doctor. He worked for the king, but did not forget his plan to destroy the land. Lycus had a staff in which he stored most of his power. In time the king found out that Lycus still wanted to destroy Greece. He ordered his gaurds to kill him, but before they did Lycus had killed the queen and his loving wife. The men caught him off-gaurd and killed him. They buried his staff in a secret tomb fot it held all Lycus's power. His daughter swore revenge on the king and his family." Like always I stared at my grandfather with wide eyes. His expression told me he knew what I would ask next. "Who was the king and Lycus's daughter?" Like a dozen times before, he smiled sadly. "I do not know. Come now child, we need to see if you can run like a true vampire." I frowned. "But-" he picked me up as he stood. "No but, Alexander. Storytime is over. Come." I nodded, my head filled with questions. Little did I know, I would never hear that story again.

"Alexander Hess!" My sight came in focus again. My father looked furious yet concerned too. Heira and Demetri had expressions of concern clear on their faces. "Yes, Father?" They sighed in relief. "For goodness' sake! What happened to you?" I was dazed after the vision, but it was going away. "Grandfather, he told me about Lycus. Father, do you remember the wizard who wanted to destroy Greece and so he was killed by the king?" My father nodded. "Well, Lycus was the wizard and we need to find his staff. The only puzzle is, how did he know my name?" The trio looked at me in astonishment. "Did you see a vision from your past?" Heira asked. "Yes, I saw myself as a young boy sitting on my grandfather's lap." Heira smiled. "Where is your grandfather? Maybe he can tell us where the staff of Lycus is." My father and I looked down in respect. "My father is no more. He left us ten years ago due to a tragic story. I am sorry, but he cannot help us." Heira also looked down in shame. Suddenly she looked at me. "How old are you?" He question puzzled me. "I am turning eighteen. Why do you ask?" She got tears in her eyes. "It can't be? The dream..." I frowned. "Heira, what did you dream. Am I going to kill my father at my celebration? Tell me!" She was crying. My father kept silent as did Demetri. "Yes, I dreamed it, but I could be wrong. You looked different in the dream and your dad too." I stood up and touched her arm. "Do not fred, all will be well." She smiled yet I did not believe she was happy.
