11: At sea

We reached the shore of Sounio in a week which was fast. On our way there we have encountered many monsters, fortunately we survived. At the city gate gaurds stopped us,"Who are you?" A tall man asked with a deep voice. I wanted to answer, but as always Heira talked before I could. "We came here to see my aunt who is very ill, good sir." He straitened his helm on his head. "Who is this aunt of yours?" I thought Heira would not be able to give an answer, but I was proven wrong. "Her name is Thea." The gaurd nodded and said we could pass. I had to ride last since the two beings from the future went first. Before I passed through, he stopped me again. "Who are you? Are you from here?" For a moment I was at a loss for words. "I- I am Romanus." He nodded once again. "I thought I saw you from somewhere. Well, you may pass." I bid him goog day and rode off. When I reached Heira, my face was as white as a new chiton. "Where were you?" I told her about the gaurd. "Luckly he didn't reconize you. Now come we're near the docks." I followed them to the docks where there were at least a dozen docked ships. "Which will we take?" Demetri asked. I glance over the ships and a long, wide vessel caught my eyes. Looking better I saw it was a royal ship and I knew we need to sail on it. "There, the long, wide ship. It is made for royals and we can sail on it." Heira shook her head. "Royals! You know there are people looking for us so it would be better of we keep a low profile. I saw a small boat which we can row ourselves. Let's see if we can find the owner of it." I almost chocked when she said we could row ourselves yet I followed her to where it was docked. We found the owner sitting on a chair, drinking wine. I unmoumted and walked to him. "Give us your boat." He looked up at me and laughed. "I do not lend my boat to people who is as arrogant as you, boy." He spat. Heira came to the rescue. "What he means is that we would pay you five dracmas if you lend us your boat. Please, sir." He glanced at Heira. "Sure, only for you, darling, and the small boy. This tall man needs to learn some courtesies." Heira smiled, took out my pouch full of dracmas and handed him five coins. "Thank you." We boarded the boat and I amost gagged. It reaked of fish and I think sweat. "Alexander, take an oar and start rowing." Then and there I decided I will not row a boat. An idea formed in my head,"No, I have a plan. Bot romu kea." I said and the boat started rowing. Heira looked at me like I was insane. "You can't use magic! What if someone see us?" I whispered a cloaking spell. "Do not fred, I have put a cloaking spell on the boat. No one can see us." Demetri turned into dragon, yawned, told he was going to sleep then he closed his eyes. Heira smiled in his direction and turned back to me. I knew what she was going to say next. "It was you mom you spoke to the other night, wasn't it?" Lying was one of my talents, but now I was tired of it. "Yes, it was her. The reason she came to me was because she wants to warn me about  my future." She did not speak more, maybe she saw I did not want to talk about it. After a time of silence something bumped against the boat. I looked over the edge and saw nothing yet I knew there was a something. "Heira." She did not answer and I turned in her direction. She was sleeping. Why does mortals always sleep? I put my hand with the dragon symbol on the floor and closed my eyes. I know I can only sence dragons and Hess's with, but for a time I have thought about what I could do with it since that night with the old lady. Something brushed against me hand and my eyes were closed so I could not see what it was. My eyes opened and I jumped almost ten feet into the air. There beside our boat was a massive octupus. "Heira, Demetri, wake up!" They did not even move. The monster growled and I knew I had to make a plan. My fangs grew out and so did my talons too. I searched for a spell in my head. Finaly I found a wormhole spell and changed it so it would work. "Meke er worho e watre arun octu."  A mass of water started spinning around the creature, pulling it in and out. I held out my hang made a grabbing gesture and the water moved faster. The monster was wailing in frustration. I grabbed my bow and an arrow which I put a spell on to appear when needed. I notched the arrow and pulled the string. In the air the arrow bursted into Greekfire, when it hit the monster the thing was engulfed in flames. I watched as it sank underwater. "What happened?" Demetri asked in a tired voice. "Nothing. I just had to defeat a monster by myself! Wake Heira." Demetri tapped Heira on her shoulder and she jumped almost falling into the water. "What? Where?" She asked wildered. "Relax, Heira! It's only me and Alexander kill a monster!" She turned to me. "You did what now?" I she deaf? "I slayed a monstirous octupas while you two slept the whole time. How do you do that?" The two laughed. "It's something only mortals can do so sorry you'll never do it." I growled and Heira screamed. "Your face!" I realised my fangs were still out and I smiled as they disappeared.  "Look, there is the docks. Be ready we are almost ashore." We looked at the nearing island, not knowing what to expect.
