The Adventures of a Fiction Writer
Once upon a time, a girl lived in a world of romance and colorful characters. Each new friend was made of adjectives and ink on rough paper. Smiles were brought on by the smell of decaying pages. Her home was in a million different countries and worlds. Late nights under flashlight and early mornings were dedicated to reaching the back cover. Music was always there, helping the story along, dancing in her mind with the elegant words from pages. Years she spent using fast fingers to write faster action and slower romance.
Like every good plot, an immovable object appeared and loomed in the way of her blissful existence. This roadblock had the name 'College.' From then on, it was only in stolen moments could she greet her old friends. All the rest was dedicated to College. With lots of hard work, she made it through this endeavor. From College came a friend turned foe 'Papers.' The girl was no stranger to writing, in fact, she wrote often. Unconcerned, she thought, how different can writing college papers be from writing fiction?
To her chagrin, it was quite different. Instead of paragraphs devoted to setting the scene in fictional worlds, she wrote on solid facts. No more could she add in chirping birds and rustic maple wood. Much more research was needed in College Papers. Fanciful adjectives had to be carefully selected and even then, sometimes discarded completely. With personal opinion frowned upon and making up characters banned, the girl struggled, drowning in MLA. Only with a writer's greatest weapon could she defeat 'Citations.'
When all hope seemed lost, she gathered the rest of her courage, her years of training, and with her companion Internet, raised her pencil. The girl fought and survived through writer's block, through those characters that make you want to punch a wall. Under no circumstances would she let this defeat her. With armor made from peer and teacher reviews, the girl learned from her past mistakes and defeated the great monstrosity.
The girl managed her way through this roadblock and won herself a happily ever after. For now. Through the experiences of others and looking ahead toward the future, she knew another round of 'College Writing' was waiting. The girl knew it would be a harder opponent than the one she just faced. Instead of dreading, she would work hard and practice until that moment comes. After all, she was the main character of her own story, and she couldn't disappoint her readers.
