The council of Elrond
The next morning, I woke up pretty early again, the morning sunlight filling the room. I got up, made the bed, like I always do, and opened the curtains, letting the full morning light in. I smiled, breathing in the cool morning air from the balcony.
I then got dressed, and headed out to go to breakfast. Thankfully, I wasn't the first one there, Sam was there, and so were Merry and Pippin. They all smiled when they saw me, and I ran over to join them at the table.
"Good morning guys!" I said, joyfully.
"G'morning Miss Maisy." Sam said, and I sat down, giggling.
Merry and Pippin had their plates piled to the brim. I never understood how they could eat so much. Anyway, I got a piece of toast and two eggs on my plate.
"Where's Frodo this morning? Is he still asleep?" I asked.
"No, no he came by earlier, didn't he Sam?" Merry said.
"Yes, Mr Frodo said he had somewhere to be, and Gandalf said that it's somewhere that 'doesn't concern us.'" Sam said, a slight tone of sadness in his voice.
"Oh, okay..."
That morning, Gandalf and Elrond had a long talk about The Ring and why it can't stay in Rivendell.
Later on that morning, Me, Sam, Merry and Pippin were all walking around, trying to find Frodo.
"Sam, do you have any idea where Frodo is?" I asked, and Sam shook his head sadly.
"No, I've no idea, I haven't all mornin." He sighed.
"I don't suppose you two don't either..?"
"No, unfortunately. But I did happen to hear somethin' about a secret council meeting." Merry said with a shrug.
"Wait, is that... Gandalf?" I said, and we all stood back behind a wall.
"Aye, it is indeed!" Sam exclaimed, causing a 'SHH!' from Merry and Pippin.
"Yes yes, it is time to attend Lord Elrond's council, come along Frodo." We heard him say, and then we saw him leading Frodo along somewhere.
We went around, and saw lots of people, sat in a circle of chairs, and a stone plinth in the middle. They all seemed to be representatives of Middle Earth, there were Elves, Dwarves, and men all sat, and of course Frodo and Gandalf were there too, and sat with some other men, was Strider too, and then Lord Elrond, who was sat in a throne like chair, stood up.
Sam ran and his behind some bushes, Merry and Pippin hid behind two pillars, and I hid behind a tree and some bushes.
"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle Earth stands upon the brink of destruction. None can escape it. You will unite or you will fall. Each race is bound to this face, this one doom." He looked at Frodo, gesturing for him to come forth. "Bring forth The Ring, Frodo."
Frodo gingerly stood up and walked over to the stone plinth in the middle of the circle, and carefully placed The Ring down on top of it.
A man with light brown hair spoke, leaning on his hand. "So it is true..."
Frodo sat back down and sighed, closing his eyes. Most were eyeing The Ring, suspiciously as it seemingly spoke. The man stood up.
"In a dream," He looked again at The Ring. "I saw the Eastern sky grow dark." He slowly started to walk towards The Ring. "In the West a pale light lingered. A voice was crying, your doom is near at hand." He carried on walking towards The Ring. "Isildur's bane is found. Isildur's bane..."
Elrond jumped to his feet. "Boromir!"
Suddenly, the sky darkened. I flinched a little but kept in my hiding place. Gandalf stood up holding his staff.
"Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk agh burzum-ishi krimpatu!"(One Ring to rule them all, one Ring to find them, one Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them)
The sky cleared and Boromir sat down, looking shocked.
Elrond didn't look pleased either. "Never before has anyone uttered such words of that tongue here in Imladris."
"I do not ask your pardon Master Elrond, for the black speech of Mordor may yet be heard in every corner of the West." Gandalf turned to look at everyone there. "The Ring is all together evil." He said and sat back down.
Boromir shook his head and stood up again. "Aye it is a gift! Long has my father, the Steward of Gondor kept the forces of Mordor at bey. By the blood of our people are your lands kept safe. Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy. Let us use it against him!"
"You cannot wield it, non of us can." The man we knew as Strider stood up. "The One Ring answers to Sauron alone. It has not other master!"
"And what would a ranger know of this matter?" Boromir said, scathingly.
A blonde Elf by the name of Legolas stood up. "This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn, son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance."
I was quite shocked. Frodo looked at Aragorn, amazed.
Boromir looked at him in disbelief. "Aragorn! This... is Isildur's heir..."
"And heir to the throne of Gondor." The Elf Legolas added.
Aragorn raised his hand while we were trying to take in all of this information. "Havo dad, Legolas." (Sit down, Legolas.)
Boromir turned to Legolas. "Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king." He sat down, staring at Aragorn disdainfully.
"Aragorn is right. We cannot use it." Gandalf said.
Elrond stood up again. "You have only one choice. The Ring must be destroyed."
A dwarf called Gimli stood up. "Well what are we waiting for," he got his axe out. "HGYAAGAHGAHH!" Gimli brought his axe down on the Ring, but was thrown back onto the floor and his blade shattered.
A shock vision of the eye appeared to Frodo who was holding his head in pain.
"The Ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli son of Gloin, by any craft that we here possess. The Ring was made in the fires of Mount Doom. Only there can it be unmade. It must be taken deep into Mordor and cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came." Elrond said as the Ring continued to whisper. "One of you... must do this."
There was silence for a moment.
"One does not simply walk into Mordor. It's black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep and the great eye is ever watchful. Tis is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this." He shook his head. "It is folly."
Legolas again jumped to his feet. "Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has said!? The Ring must be destroyed!"
"And I suppose you think you're the one to do it!" Gimli shouted at Legolas.
"And if we fail what then?" Boromir stood up again. "What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?"
Gimli stood up again. "I will be dead before I see the Ring, in the hand of an Elf!"
The Elves stood up to back Legolas, the men did the same, and the dwarves for Gimli.
"Never trust an Elf!" He shouted.
Gandalf stood up and everyone started shouting and arguing. Frodo oh the other hand, still sat in his chair, watching the arguing on the reflection of the Ring. So badly I wanted to run up and check he was okay, but I knew I had to wait and stay put.
"Do you not understand that while we bicker amongst ourselves, Sharon's power grows!? Non can escape it! You'll all be destroyed." Gandalf said loudly.
Frodo stared at the Ring as he heard ty e words being uttered again.
"'Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul."'
The people he could see in the Ring suddenly covered with a Ring of fire.
"I will take it!" Frodo got up immediately after that. "I will take it!"
Gandalf closed his eyes in sorrow as Frodo spoke.
"I will take the Ring to Mordor." Everyone's attention was on him, looking at him in awe. "Though, I do not know the way."
"I will help you bear this burden Frodo Baggins, as long as it is yours to bear." Gandalf said, standing behind him with a hand on his shoulder.
"If by my life or death I can protect you, I will." Aragorn walked up to Frodo, then kneeling down in front of him. "You have my sword."
"And you have my bow." Legolas stepped forward and added.
"And my axe!" Gimli said and joined the group, causing a grimace from Legolas.
"You carry the fate of us all little one." Boromir said, walking towards them. "If this is indeed the will of the Council, then Gondor will see it done." Boromir also joined the group.
Sam suddenly burst through the bushes to join Frodo.
"Mr Frodo's not going anywhere without me!" He exclaimed, taking his place next to him.
"No indeed it is hardly possible to separate you, even when he is summoned to a secret council and you are not-"
"And me!" I shouted and ran out of my hiding spot to join them. "Trust me, you'll need your little sister helping you out Frodo." I said, earning a few looks from the group.
Elrond sighed and shook his head. "Alright then-"
"Wait! We're coming too!" Merry shouted as he and Pippin ran out towards us. "You'll have to send us home tied in a sack to stop us!" He said, standing next to me.
Elrond looked astounded.
"Anyway, you'll need people of intelligence on this sort of mission... quest... thing..."
"Well that rules you out Pip." Merry said, looking at Pippin and I giggled.
Elrond looked at the ten of us stood together. "Ten companions... so be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring!"
I smiled, excitedly.
"Great! Where are we going?" Pippin asked.
