Living a Lie
I get my font back from Edgar.
I write a different story. A romance novel I write just to numb the pain. A novel that does nothing to advance my goals and has no relation to this series.
Yet, I write it, and I live that fantasy cause it numbs the pain.
"Paying a little visit to Wonderland," a voice chuckles, "aren't we Leo?"
"Shut up," I glare as an apparation of The Jackal appears.
"Easy kid," The Jackal replies, "I just wanna talk."
"What about?" I demand, gripping my pen.
"Your sibling," The Jackal smirks, "K."
"I have that under control," I reply.
"I'm talking how this is effecting you," The Jackal elaborates, "let's be honest. You are NOT OK."
"Worth it," I reply, continuing to write.
"What's her name?" The Jackal looks over my shoulder.
"Who?" I inquire.
"The fake girl in that book who loves you in your little fantasy?" The Jackal inquires.
"It's..." I turn away, "it's not important. She isn't real."
"You wanna write more of her," The Jackal smirks, "don't you? You're addicted to this lie, this fantasy."
"Get to the point," I sigh, unable to deny I am addicted to my fantasy, unable to face my own world anymore, forced to make a new fantasy, return to Wonderland, to numb the pain. I have chosen to write away all my emotion. Writing can numb anything. My fantasy makes everything OK. I just have to keep it on check.
"Want me to make her?" The Jackal asks.
"What?" I inquire, confused.
"In Wonderland," The Jackal replies, "want me to make a character based on her?"
Ashamed, I turn away and reply, "yeah. I guess."
"Damn," The Jackal is shocked by my answer, "that was supposed to be a test but you're serious."
"And why shouldn't I be?" I demand, "I can't save anyone! I'm just a worthless hick and a husk! I don't even know if this is my real face! Writing erases all emotion! I don't care about anything else!"
"Do you wanna return to Wonderland?" The Jackal asks, "I can call the Beast and you can-"
"No," I sigh, "not yet. I'm not dead yet. I'm just... having some issues with a fantasy is all. I'll have to get it under control."
"I'd keep living the lie," The Jackal shrugs, "but I guess living your fully would mean losing K."
"Yeah," I reply, snapping my fingers, calling Gen to me as a mask, "now, Fando has to face Gen, so, if you'll excuse me..."
"Of course Leo," The Jackal replies, "see you in Wonderland."
"Yeah," I sigh.
"One way or another," they finish as they fade.
I feel everyone's auras grow closer. It's time.
I put Gen on my face so he has time to prepare for combat, not that him losing will change anything...
