Chapter 46
Myra's POV
" Mom... What are his favorite dishes? " I asked.
" Your dad's?? " She asked. I shook my head. Sia Aunty laughed and I realized that Mom was teasing me.
" Mom!! No, I mean, Raj. " I said trying not to blush.
" Awww... Do you want to know about him? " Mom said.
" Priya, stop it. Tell her, she wants to know everything about him and try new things for him. We all did that. A way to a man's heart is through his stomach... But you don't need to worry, he already likes you. " Sia Aunty teased me as well. I felt very good to hear that.
Mom told me all his favorite dishes and other favorites, I made a mental note of it.
Breakfast was served and everyone came to have breakfast except for Ron.
" Where is Ron? " Dad asked.
" He has already gone to the showroom at the mall and has been putting up lots of effort there,"
Mom said.
" Wow!! Don't you think, he is changing a bit? Being more responsible day by day. " Dad said and Mom nodded. She got some breakfast packed for Ron and asked Ruhan to give it to him as Mom will be late.
Everyone was seated and I was about to take my chair when he pulled my chair a bit closer to him. I blushed and looked around, I saw that the elders were eating with a smile on their faces.
I looked at Raj and he was eating as if nothing happened.
How cute!!
I sat down on the chair as if I didn't realize it and brushed my calf with his he stopped eating all of a sudden and I smiled.
He looked at me briefly and then at others. Since they were still smiling he resumed eating. But the very next moment, he bent on my side to get something from my side instead of telling me to pass it, my arm was brushed with his chest, and I liked the warmth I felt for a few seconds.
Then he placed it back after serving it on his plate, his arm brushed my bosom, making me too aware of the proximity between us in presence of everyone, some color crept in my cheeks.
" What is going on?? Myra, are you not feeling well?? Your face is red? " Roohi asked. And the smile on everyone's face broadened.
" Oh, no, I am fine. "
" But your face is red. " She asked again.
" It happens, you would not understand till it's your time. " Ruhan said.
" Oh, please, I am a doctor. "
" Yes, precisely!! You have not read anything about the word called blushing in your textbooks. You need to read and watch romantic things. She is blushing, not having a fever, isn't it, Myra di? Bhai? " Ruhan said and wiggled his eyebrows.
" Shut up, Ruhan!! " Roohi, Raj, and I said together. The rest of them laughed.
We all finished our breakfast and everyone went away. Mom was giving me a class on how to make laddoos.
We were standing at the gas stove since I insisted that I will make them, and Mom was guiding me through the process of making laddoos. The aroma of melting ghee, roasted flour, and cardamom filled the air. I was stirring the mixture carefully with a wooden spoon, trying to follow Mom's instructions to achieve the perfect consistency.
I was thrilled to see that I was doing it.
" Wow!! Mom, I hope they come out well as everyone likes it. Not like the halwa. " I said.
" Of course, they would be, we are following the same recipe, and this time we will not cut short ghee and sugar. Your halwa was very nice if only you had not cut down on both the ingredients. " Mom said lovingly. I smiled.
Just as I was getting the hang of it, Mom received an urgent phone call from her office. She immediately turned down the flame and instructed me to keep stirring the mixture to ensure it cooked evenly.
As instructed, I continued to stir the mixture, trying to concentrate on the process.
But just then I got a brilliant idea of clicking pictures of me cooking laddoos for my hus... Family. So I clicked a few pictures and a selfie of mine cooking it.
However, I noticed that some of the flour seemed to be getting over-roasted, and I started to feel uneasy as it didn't seem to be right.
I didn't want the mixture to get spoilt, Suddenly, I panicked and took the mixture off the stove with a kitchen towel as there was no time to wear the baking mitten. As I lifted the pot, I realized that it was too heavy and that some of the mixture was about to spill. In a moment of desperation, I caught the pot with both hands, and the hot mixture with sizzling hot ghee spilled over my hands, causing excruciating pain.
I let out a loud yelp, and Mom rushed to my side. She gently took the pot from my hands and turned off the gas.
" Oh, my God!! I am so sorry, beta, I should have asked my PA to call later. I should have thought of the fact that you have no almost experience of cooking. I am really sorry. I... " Mom was looking very guilty and I could see the pain on her face.
She immediately grabbed a bowl of cold water and instructed me to immerse my hands in it to relieve the pain.
As I submerged my hands in the water, I felt the coolness soothing my burnt hands. She instructed me to keep my hands submerged in the water for a while.
I sat there with my hands in the bowl, feeling the coolness of the water gradually calming the pain.
Well, at least, I realized that cooking was not just about following instructions; it required focus, concentration, and the ability to react quickly to unexpected situations.
" Sorry, beta, you are in pain because I left you unattended. " Mom said again while she started cooking again.
" No, Mom, it was my fault, I thought of clicking pictures of it as I was making them for the first time and it was going so well. I spoilt it with my foolish and impulsive behavior. " I said and tears started flowing from my eyes.
" Hey, baby please don't cry, nothing is spoilt. It is perfect, I mixed it, it was not burnt, don't worry, please don't cry, I am sure today, they all will say that these are better than the usual ones. You saved it in time. I know, you must be having pain, Please don't cry, I will ease your pain. "
Mom examined my hands and applied some ointment to the burns and then gave me some painkillers to relieve the pain.
Tears were still flowing from my eyes but it was not because of the pain in my hand but because I always behave impulsively. And this woman in front of me was just like my mom.
I hugged her and cried more. She caressed my back and said soothing words.
" What happened beta, is anything bothering you?? " She asked. I wanted to ask her, how did she win Dad's heart as she got married in almost the same situation. But I could not form the sentence with the right words.
" Mom, I promise to be more careful in the future and to always pay attention to the cooking process," I said instead.
" Next time, I will not allow you to cook on your own. Either Sia or I will be around. "
" Oh, no Mom... But then how will I learn to cook confidently like you and Sia Aunty? "
" You don't have to be like us beta, you have your talents, you run a business for your mom, and are good at your work. Your presentation is awesome. You don't have to be like us. Cooking is important, everyone should know how to cook, irrespective of gender. Cooking for survival is a must. But you don't need to learn cooking if don't enjoy it. There is no problem as we have a team of cooks but as Sia and I love cooking, we do it ourselves whenever it is possible."
" Now, I know, why everyone loves you so much. And I love you too, Mom. "
" Awww... I love you more beta. But how about my son?? Do you love him too? " She asked and I couldn't help blushing. I hugged her and hid my face. She chuckled.
