Chapter 7

The four friends were at their usual table during the lunch break. They hadn't discussed anything about the previous day's events. It was Ryan's idea not to discuss anything over phone or unless the foursome were present together. It was also decided that they wouldn't talk about it in school.

"Let's meet up somewhere after school." suggested Airin.

"You can come to my place. My parents are always late from work. They wouldn't mind me inviting my friends over." said Alby.

"That's an excellent idea. Your place is the best place. We can discuss anything freely. I am sure Maria will leave us to our world. I love her for that." said Ryan.

Maria was Alby's sweet housekeeper. She was a middle aged woman who had been with them for more than 10 years now. She loved Alby just like her own son. She liked Ryan and always welcomed him wholeheartedly. She seemed to be more understanding than Alby's parents. She wouldn't bother them and would stand by their side when they did some kind of mischief.

"I can tell mom that I will be with Airin. I have the research project at hand as an excuse for being late" said Jessy.

"I will have to try a bit harder this time. I was at Jessie's place and according to mom, I was there for two nights. But I will manage." stated Airin.

Just then the bell rang and they dispersed to their classes. After school, they went home to freshen up.

Jessy was the first one to arrive at Alby's place. She rang the bell and waited. She expected Alby to open the door but it was Maria who answered the door. Jessy immediately told that she was there to see Alby. Surprise flashed on Maria's face. But she smiled and welcomed her inside. Alby was coming down the stairs. He had expected Ryan to arrive first.

Maria grinned at Alby and said, "I thought I heard that Ryan was coming over." She emphasized the name Ryan and winked at him. Alby replied, "There was a sudden change of plan." Maria eyed him suspiciously. But before she could get any other ideas, Alby quickly added, "Instead of only Ryan, we will have three guests tonight." She smiled and said, "Thanks for the short notice. I'd better hurry in that case. I might need to a special dinner as you are having special guests." It was clear that she was teasing Alby.

Alby sat down with Jessy. Just then Ryan and Airin arrived. "Sorry dude. I had to pick her up and that kept me late." explained Ryan. Alby led them all upstairs into his bedroom.

They talked about what they saw in that secret room. Airin told them that she thinks that the things they saw in the room were stolen items as she found a few newspaper clippings related to some of the items she saw there. Alby still had the powder with him. He took it out and kept it in front of them.

"What did you think when you took this from there?" shouted Jessy.

"They are not going to realise this packet missing." replied Alby.

"They might not. But what if someone else found it with you. You would be in trouble. And what benefit do you get by taking this? We can't go around and ask people what it is" said Jessy.

Alby replied again, "You are right. But I know a friend of my father's who works in the police. We can hand it over to him. But we need to collect enough evidence before we show this."

They began planning for the weekend. They wanted to catch the men red-handed. Alby suggested using their phones to take video so that they didn't get any chance to slip away.

Airin piped in, "What if they don't come this Saturday? We cannot wait the whole day expecting them to arrive at any time."

"We can't leave our phones there too." added Jessy.

"Hey, I have a video camera. I have not used it much since I got it for my last birthday. It can record for 10 hours continuously." said Ryan. " We can go there and set it up somewhere out of sight. And go back in the evening to get it out." added Ryan.

"That's a better idea. And if they don't show up, we do the same thing next day. We keep doing it until we get what we require." said Airin.

Everyone liked the idea. "We can go there early in the morning on Saturday." suggested Jessy.

Alby objected, "All of us don't have to go. It's just the task of planting the videocam. Fewer we are lesser are the chances that we'll be noticed."

They decided that the boys would go this time to fix the camera and then come back. They would go back again in the evening to retrieve the video. The girls were a bit disappointed but they agreed.

Just as on cue, Maria called them to have dinner. Alby quickly hid the packet inside his shoe box and then went downstairs with his friends.

They had a delicious dinner. Maria was happy for Alby as this was the first time, someone other than Ryan came to meet him.  After the dinner, the three friends stayed in the living room. They didn't want to give any kind of clue to Maria. She usually caught Alby and Ryan when they were upto some mischief. They decided to meet up at the park near their school on Saturday morning. Then the three friends left Alby. All of them were eagerly waiting for Saturday.
