Chapter 2

Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the hub, the middle of the Sector City-Subs. The A's live outside in a suburb called Anoka. Because it starts with an A of course. Mostly, people in the lower thirteen live in the city. City life is full of hard work and terrible jobs. The upper thirteen live in the suburbs surrounding it. But, because I am required to volunteer for school, I must leave the suburbs. There is no culture corner in the suburbs, only in the city. So I must venture in the city to go to work.
I leave my house. I still think the large size is impractical for just three people, but my parents disagree. They wave from the doorway. I wave in return and walk down Oakwood drive. Most kids on my street take the Hover-track, buiut I prefer to walk. As I stroll to the bus stop, I think about the dream I had last night. A shiver goes down my spine as I remember the whiperwils flocking out of my mother's mouth. Whiperwils aren't scary really, well, they shouldn't be. I guess I'm different though. When I was younger, I was told my fear came from the never-ending noise the bird makes. I was also told it was because of my classmates never-ending taunting. It seems stupid, but I know they were right.
I reach the stop just as the bus pulls up silently. Anabelle LaCount glanced at me. She smirks and turns to me.
"Still walking, TT?" She remarks, grinning. They call me that for two reasons. One, I live in 1310, a strange number on Oakwood drive, and two, walking is considered a T thing to do. Walking requires work, and T's and V's thing to do. Unacceptable by A standards. I sigh in return.
"You still taking pills to be skinny?" I retort with a snarl. Everyone knows she takes the pills. So do most girls. They're all hypocrites. A's get that advantage, unlike others.
"Whatever, TT. You just say that to make yourself feel better." Annabelle says, turning away. I roll my eyes and the bus glides to a stop. It reads "Culture Square" in bold letters. The door swings open silently, and I step on. Behind my back, I flip Annabelle off. I smile and sit down. To Tiny Tokyo Toys I go. Great.
