Adelia

3rd person p.o.v

"Lady Adelia, it's time to get up!"

"Lady Adelia?"

"Leave me alone Gemini!"

Gemini smiled at the large oak doors before slamming them open, "Glad your finally awake, past dawn, but awake none the less."

Adelia shot up in bed, her long blonde hair looking like a bird's nest upon her head, a surprised look present on her soft, pale features.

"What do you mean dawn? Why didn't you wake me up?! Faex! "

Gemini watched in amusement as the princess ran around her chambers attempting to get ready. He would never admit it, but this was the fairy's favorite chore.

"Where's my brush? Gemini do you see my brush anywhere out there?!"

He could hear her voice coming out of the dressing room in clear distress. Gemini shook his head as he picked up her brush and floated over to the disheveled princess.

Adelia's p.o.v

'How in Hades is it past daybreak? Father's gonna have my head. I woke up super late, and on the day of the Market festival no less.'

I should introduce myself. My name is Adelia Calistia Regis, daughter of the Elven king Gabrielus Regis. A king who demands his daughter to be at breakfast before the sun rises for some godforsaken reason. And Gemini, my personal servant, is in charge of making sure that I survive the day. I say servant, but he's really one of my best friends. Father would disapprove, fairies are nothing to him. He treats them like objects instead of living beings. Lord I can't stand my father sometimes, he's insufferable to live with. That's probably why mother left(Among other reasons)...it's funny, 10 yrs later and I can still see her face perfectly. Then again it's not hard to remember a face that's almost exactly like your own. The only difference between us is my eye. This stupid yellow eye is the only thing that separates us.

A sigh passes my thin lips as I sit in my dressing room attempting to untangle the jungle that is my hair which, even with a brush, was nearly impossible.

"For heaven's sake, just let me do it. You're just making it worse. Didn't my mother teach you how to prevent this?"

"I was tired, putting it up would have taken too much energy. Thank you anyway, Gem."

"Yeah, yeah. Just hold still."

I really don't know what I would do without Gemini. I probably would've fallen into a lake by now. Gem wasn't bad to look at either. His short ginger hair and jade eyes were interesting contrasts to his tanned skin. He was only 4'9, so watching him walk around with a wingspan almost twice his height was interesting. His wings are usually an apple green color when they're not covered in copper dust from the stables. He often let me clean them if my father wasn't around. Of course, if I cleaned him, I ended up cleaning the wings of over half the staff. It never bothered me. They do everything for father and I. They clean the castle, our clothes, they cook our meals, take care of our horses, and they are at our beck and call. Taking a couple of hours out of my day is the least I could do. Of course, my father would never allow me.
Fairies are the kindest creatures that I have ever encountered. So I have yet to understand why you would want to purchase one. Especially those who have done nothing to deserve such treatment. Father has been taking me to fairy auctions for as long as I can remember. Even at a young age, I knew that those events were wrong. The terrified eyes on the children's filthy faces. The despair on every mothers' face as her young ones were taken out of her grasp. The infuriated shouts from the men, as their shackles prevented them from protecting their families. Just the image brings me pain. I used to beg my father not to go to those auctions anymore. Of course, he refused, no matter how much I begged and pleaded. Eventually, we came to a compromise. He could go to these auctions but I had 2 conditions:

1)He could only take whole families. If he wanted a child from one family and the father from another, he had to take both families. Not a single fairy in our castle has been separated from their loved ones.

2)The fairies would get proper living quarters and food rations. When I was younger the fairies would sleep out with the horses and eat whatever scraps were left after my parents and I had eaten. Of course, now they have a proper place to sleep. I had father build quarters connected to the house because I will not have people walking through the rain for no reason. The fairies are also able to eat full meals. They aren't given the best rations, but I sneak out some of the village's finest meats on occasion.

Even with these conditions, they were still treated unwell. I've had to tend many wounds, as my father can not control his temper nor his hand. What little I have given them isn't nearly enough. It will only be enough when fairies are treated like anyone else. But I'm realistic. I know it'll take years before I reach my goal. I recently sent my father's council a formal letter addressing the fairies. Then again, that was months ago. Either they haven't received it, or it was thrown out with the rest. Between my father and the council, nothing will ever get done. My father...my father...why do I feel like I'm forgetting something?

"Deodamnatus, I forgot! Gem, please tell me you're done."

"Almost. By the gods, your hair just won't lay flat."

"It'll have to do!"

I yanked my hair out of Gem's small hands as I stood up, practically running out of the room. I took a glance out of one of the castle's great many windows and saw Gemini's mother taking my horse out of the stables for her morning run. Looking farther I could see the village bustling about. The sun peeking out from behind the elven mountains. Faex! I'm really late.

He's gonna kill me!
