Conclusion

Many people take for granted the freedom of knowledge that everyday life allows them. In the world of spies, this is not the case. John Cairncross was a member of the KGB 'Ring of Five', and was considered to be the last surviving member until he passed away from a stroke on October 8, 1995 (Bower, 1995). Men and women like Cairncross risk their lives daily in order to gain knowledge that is considered 'classified' or 'forbidden', much like how Guy Montag risked his so that he could read books. A world without knowledge breeds ignorance, but in the world of spies, too much knowledge breeds danger.
