Chapter VIII (3rd P)
3rd Person (P.o.V)
It took several days before Draven reawakened. This put relief on Cassandra's shoulders, as she hasn't left his side since. Cassandra stood up and went to get the apothecarist, but she was stopped short by Draven grabbing ahold of her wrist. She turned and gazed at him, her eyes filled with worry as she stared at his form.
A Dragon Lord, in this state, is considered weak and easy to kill, which is why Cassandra never left his side.
"Don't leave..." he uttered through shallow breaths.
"Im just getting the doctor....." she told him gently.
He released her wrist and she quickly went to go get them. Upon returning to Draven, Cassandra and Skylynn soon enter the tent and Lynn goes over to Draven. Her hands hover over his body as a green aura appears just beneath her hands. Cassandra watched silent, as she knew she was not able to do too much to help with him but watch and stay by his side.
"The poison that flowed through his veins slowed down a sufficient amount since we came him that potion." Lynn told Cassandra. "He still has a high fever and his vision will still be blurred til he is fully recovered, but he will be back on his feet at this rate."
"Thank you Lynn..." Cassandra said to the female.
Skylynn dusts her hands off and she nods. "Any time my Lady." She smiles to her. Soon leaving Cassandra and Draven by themselves once more.
"Are you hungry?" Cassandra asked the male softly.
"Honestly no." He says to her. "I just want to sleep more."
Cassandra sighs a bit too heavily. "You've already been asleep for four days now Draven..... You are scaring me with your health." She tells him honestly.
Sitting up slowly, Draven stared at Cassandra, he may not be able to see her form clearly but he knows her scent well. She smelled of roses and fresh morning dew. This causes Draven to sigh as her scent was so nice to him he knew his dragon side was going crazy.
"Fine I will take something to eat." He tells her. This seemed to of cheered up her mood as she told him quickly that she would be right back. When he heard the tent flaps swish closed, Draven laid back down and he frowned to himself. A mortal woman is doing this to him, that no woman or man has ever done for him. Not even his brothers have made him feel at easy.
The tent flaps swished open and this new scent made Draven stay on edge. This person smelled of metal and sweat.
"Awake I see Onyx Dragon." Hissed an all to familiar voice for Draven.
"Michalle!" He snarled, sitting back up now.
"Yes that is me again." The male's voice came out cocky. "I just received a letter from the King telling me how you've been extra busy at the palace since you left your first visit here. Why is that?"
Draven felt the rumble in his chest grow louder. "You are nothing that deserves an answer to your question!"
"Tsk such a shame. That green dragon you summoned was quite the show too."
"I didn't summon the emerald dragon!" Draven snapped out.
"Oh ho but who else has dragon abilities around here? Cassandra? Haha don't get me start on that weak bitch."
This man was about to meet a real dragons stomach real soon. He had no right to speak like that about Cassandra, she is his Lord after all.
"You dare speak bad about your Lady?" Draven threatened. "How would the Devil take that if he heard you speak bad about her?"
"Luki would never be able to find out. I am his messenger after all. Ill give him little amounts of detail about what I say and keep the main focus on you and her." The sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath caused Draven's wings to open up.
"I may be blind at the moment but damn is my hearing and scent stronger right now."
The flaps to the tent swished open again, and the next thing Draven heard was a gasp.
"My Lady?" Michalle said.
"What are you doing with your sword drawn Michalle?" She asked cautiously.
"Protecting his Lord my Lady. If I had my weapon sheathed than he would of died by an intruder my Lady."
"You had no ill intentions?" Cassandra was still on edge with seeing Michalle's sword drawn.
"No ill intentions my Lady."
With that, Cassandra relaxed and she brought food over to Draven. He felt the adjustment of the cot as she sat before him. Her scent was stronger with her closeness.
"You may return to your post Michalle." Cassandra orders him.
Michalle bows and he leaves the tent. Cassandra carefully places a tray of limited amount of food on his lap.
"I apologize for Michalle's attitude... him and I have been in a rocky lord guard relationship recently." Cassandra bows her head low and she looks at her lap.
Draven placed a hand on Cassandra's head. Draven ruffles up her hair a bit and Cassandra puffs up like a bird that protects it babies.
"HEY?!" She squeaked out.
Draven chuckles and he has a handsome smile on. One that could make any woman or man fall in love with. Cassandra smiles at this, tilting her head as well. Draven's face soon returns to being stern and harsh, but there was still a lightness to it with Cassandra around. Draven knew he was able to trust the mortal woman for how she treats him. Cassandra treats him like a human being not someone with dragon abilities. Which Draven has never felt in his centuries of being alive.
"May I trust my brothers with your strange ability?" Draven asked cautiously and low enough so no other human could hear what they are talking about.
"Sure!" Cassandra said kindly. "I entrust them with anything you tell them."
"Thank you. If I may speak somewhere else in private with you my Lady?"
"Sure Lord Draven." Cassandra understood what he was asking as he wanted to ask more questions.
Cassandra soon stood up and before she left the tent. "Get better for me first than." She smiled over her shoulder than soon leaving Draven to his thoughts and his food.
Cassandra P.o.V. (3rd)
Draven's smile was still in Cassandra's head. She got a warm safe feeling from his smile. He's never smiled before, Cassandra could tell. The lines of stress and years of war have worn him tired and exhausted. Cassandra is kind of glad she is giving him the ability to rest and to relax.
Reaching the docks that are all still being worked on Cassandra noticed someone was bent forward over the edge of one of the sides. Cassandra hurried over to the person and saw who it was. Oscar Fields had fallen into water.
"Hold on Oscar!" Cassandra said quickly. She turns and carefully lowers herself into the cold frigid water. Her body tense and her muscles screamed for her to get back out, but Cassandra had a duty to protect her people. No matter the situation. As soon as her body was deep enough into the water she released the edge of the dock and she went under for a second before she pushed herself back up and taking a hold of Oscar. Looking towards the person on the dock Cassandra ordered them to go to the edge of the water and fine a safe spot for them to pull themselves up onto the land.
The person nodded and ran off. Cassandra could feel how cold Oscar had gotten. She wasn't sure how long he's been in the water for, but she had to keep him safe and alive. Even if that meant her own life.
It was about 5 minutes later that the other person returned to let Cassandra know there isn't any safe spot for them to pull themselves up nearby.
"Follow us towards the beach." Cassandra points towards the left, the beach was the closest but the furthest away from them. Keeping a tight hold onto Oscar, Cassandra swam with one arm to the best of her ability, carefully kicking to be sure not to accidentally kick Oscar in the process. Cassandra's breathing became heavy and it felt like there was a cold fire burning inside her chest. The pain was excruciatingly hard against her lungs. Her limbs screamed harder at her as she swam with Oscar in her one arm. The kid was so cold and his lips were turning blue.
"Stay with me Oscar.... One day I will make you my very own personal guard." Cassandra urged him to wake up more. Oscar opens his eyes for a moment than he closes them again as he was weak. But Cassandra could still feel him breathing but faintly. Cassandra continued to push her body which was warming up a bit, but not enough to ease the pain she was in. 'Just a little further.' She urged in her mind.
Cassandra got them close enough to the beach to have them both get pulled up. More people had joined and watched the scene unfold before them. Cassandra carefully turns Oscar over onto his back lifts his head up slightly.
"Come on bud breathe for me..." Cassandra begged softly.
Cassandra began to press on his chest to hopefully get him to start breathing after she carefully put his head back down. Up and down Cassandra would try to get him to breath. (Please understand this is a whole different universe and the medival times cpr was not known.)
Cassandra was getting more and more worried when he wasn't waking up or coughing up the water that had entered his body. Cassandra suddenly felt a hand touch her wrist and she looked up to see Oscar had opened his eyes and he was than coughing out the water.
Cassandra hugged the young boy. Cassandra laughed softly as tears trickled down her face.
"Thank goodness your alive!" Tears streamed down Cassandra face. A warm smile was on her face as she looked down at Oscar.
"Thank you my Lord...." he smiles back at her.
The two of them soon stand up and she was soon meet with a set of red eyes and deep Onyx black hair.
"Come on you must be freezing." He walked closer to her and he actually wrapped his right wing around her. There was a warmth to his wing that made Cassandra's eyes widen for a spilt second before she relaxed into the warmth. Cassandra smiled into the warmth of his right wing and she let her whole body actually relax for a moment.
Michalle P.o.V.
He watches as the Onyx Dragon wrapped his wing around the Lord. He tched and he gripped his sword tightly.
"I know your hiding something you evil bastard." Michalle said to himself quietly that way no one heard him.
He noticed that the Onyx Dragon smirked at the Lord as they walked away.
