Chapter 49
Blue's POV:
The car slowed down at some large building. I peered at the window, my heart pounding. What was this surprise going to be? Now I knew it definitely wasn't going to be food.
The door opened and Owen clapped to us. We both leaped out and onto the gravel, glancing around. Owen smiled softly. "Someone would like to meet you."
Mud's eyes grew bright. "Ooo we have fans?" He asked, turning to me.
I shook my head. "Beats me." We both followed Owen towards the large building. Looks fancy. The building stood a bit tall and had large glass windows. Little green bushes surrounded it, and there were trees that were spaced apart nicely.
"This was.. quite expensive," Owen sighed. "So I hope I won't disappoint you," he muttered, picking up his pace. The two doors slid open automatically when he got close. As we walked inside, the scent of this place flooded my nostrils. I couldn't exactly describe it, all I could think of was that it smelled like cold fresh air floating off of a lake.
There was a wall made from smoothed wood, and there was a large marbled desk where a woman was standing behind. She greeted Owen with a smile. "Owen Grady?" She asked.
Owen nodded.
The woman pointed towards the door on the right. "Go through that door and walk down the hall until you reach the elevator. Go to floor 3, and after you step out, go five doors down," she ordered.
"Thank you," Owen replied. He headed towards the door on the right and motioned for us to come.
As we walked down the blue-carpeted hall, another scent hit me. Faint scents of blood as well as some sorts of medicine were filling my nose. I shivered. "I don't like this place."
Mud tilted his head. "You don't trust Owen? You know he would never harm us," the brown raptor reminded.
"Yes, I know, but..." I trailed off when we reached the end of the hall. Owen pressed the button and there was a dinging sound. The doors then opened and we stepped in. The floor beneath me rumbled, and I got scared.
Owen placed a hand on my head, laughing slightly. "It's alright, Blue, it's just an elevator," he told me.
Something that I've never been on before! The floor stopped trembling and then the doors opened again. We all stepped out into the hall. More scents flooded around me, and as we got closer to the fifth door, a familiar scent drifted from it.
Owen seemed to take in a large breath. He placed his hand on the door knob. He looked at me, sad. "I'm sorry I've been keeping this from you.." He sighed. Then the door opened to reveal someone that I thought I'd never see again.
Feather's POV:
I walked through the forest after Ebony had told me to catch something for us. I picked through bushes and tried to find any scents that stood out from the smell of pines or berries. I spotted a bird in a tree, chirping its head off. I knew I probably couldn't catch a bird, so I kept stumbling through the bushes, hoping I would find a mouse's home.
That bird's chirping was getting too distracting for me. I spun around, my feathers bristling. I made sure to stalk towards that tree without making a sound. The annoying bird was on a low branch. I'm sure I can jump that high. I bunched my haunches, then sprang upward. My claws only just grazed the bird's tail feathers. As I landed, I grumbled in defeat as I watched it fly off.
Turning away, I kept searching again. Come on, there has to be something somewhere! A mouse or mole at least! A cold wind coiled around the trees and lightly touched my feathers. I was about to give up on this area and move to another, but then I suddenly heard a dog barking. A dog? Out here, in a forest? I don't remember being anywhere close to a neighborhood. I couldn't pick up its scent, so I decided to just head in the direction of where the sounds were coming from. Sorry, dog, but you might become my food.
The dog's barking sounded quite distant, but as I walked through the woods, I could tell I was getting closer. But suddenly something just didn't feel right. A knot of fear bundled in my stomach. The dog's barking sounded a bit strange. Then it got quiet. Had I been lured into a trap?
The trees in front of me suddenly parted open, and something taller than me came out. It was some giant dinosaur that I had never seen before. Definitely not a dog..
The horned green dinosaur looked at me with piecing orange-yellow eyes. A growl rumbled in its throat as it looked down at me. It breathed in my scent. Then it shook its head and turned away.
"H-hey, wait! Just what are you? Were you making those barking sounds?" I asked, rushing towards the large green creature. It didn't turn around, but instead just stood still without looking at me. Its long stegosaurus-like tail waved above me. Is that... a hybrid?
"Yeah, that was me," the creature murmured. "Now go away, I have a goal to complete and you shouldn't get in my way."
"Oh.. what goal? Maybe I could help you," I stated, shifting. Maybe if I help this hybrid, then he could help Ebony and I.
"I don't think you could help," the creature snorted. He flexed his long talons and I saw a flash of his teeth.
"Maybe I could if you'd let me hear about this goal of yours," I sighed, backing away from the large creature.
"Fine then."
