Hi Wattys lovers!

We wanted to give you an early heads-up that we will be trying a few new things for the Wattys next year!

At this stage, we will not be releasing all the rules and regulations, but we did want to share that the 2025 Wattys is happening next year and we're looking forward to seeing all your amazing stories.

So, what's happening? Here's a quick round-up of a few changes and basic guidelines for the 2025 Wattys:

Main Changes from 2024:

Stories written in Portuguese will now be eligible for entry. Writers will be able to participate in English, Filipino, Portuguese, and Spanish in 2025.

Wattpad Original stories will not be eligible for entry. Stories already recognised as part of the Originals catalogue, or any story accepted for Originals during the Wattys 2025 judging period will not be eligible for entry.

Ongoing Stories will not be eligible for entry. In 2025 our focus will be on Complete stories in all 4 eligible languages.

Wattys 2025 Basic Guidelines (mostly unchanged from 2024, except where 'main changes' listed above override them):

The Wattys 2025 will happen and will be open to complete stories written in English, Filipino, Spanish, and Portuguese languages.

Ongoing stories will not be eligible for entry, all stories must be complete and marked as such to enter.

The first part of your story must have been posted to Wattpad on or after January 1st, 2023.

English language stories must be 50k words or longer. Filipino, Spanish, and Portuguese stories must be 40k words or longer.

Previously entered 'complete' stories of any language will not be eligible for re-entry.

Previously entered 'ongoing' stories will be eligible for the Wattys 2025, but only if they are complete at the time of entry and satisfy all other entry criteria.

Eligible genres are the same as 2024, so no fanfic, poetry, non-fiction, random, classics, or short stories.

You must be at least 13 years of age or older to enter. Writers who are under 18 years of age must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter and collect any prizes.

You must own and control all of the rights to your story.

We appreciate that many of you will have questions about the 2025 Wattys that are not answered by the information above. We will be posting several updates over the coming months, including more in-depth information and answers to questions early in the new year.
