you can judge and be in this contest simultaneously. but you cannot judge the same genre you are entered in.

I don't want to require contestants to follow judges. thus, your rewards are:

a. elation from reading people's beautiful stories

b. a free graphic of your choice (sticker, banner, cover, character profile, face claim, etc.)

c. a reading list in which I promote a book of your choice

if you want to be a judge, you must go through a sort of...test.

a. I will send you the first chapter of a random book and you must give me a review of it using the criteria outlined in this book.

b. if your review is exactly what we're looking for, you're good to go

c. the reason for this being that in a previous awards I hosted, I had judges who were giving bad reviews where they would say things like, "I like that your blurb is short. 20/20"

you must, and I repeat, you must, use the judging criteria exactly as it is written. it is very specific on purpose. so that everyone scores as similar as possible for the most fair results. more will be in the judging criteria chapter but here is a disclaimer:

if I think a judge has scored unfairly (I doubt this will happen), I reserve the right to toss that score and either:

a. request the judge rescore

b. score it myself

I will only take such drastic measures if I have probed the judge and they have been uncooperative. most of the time, if I am confused about a score, I'll ask questions to make sure your reasoning is sound and just. and then I'll leave you alone.

you will be judging around ten to fifteen books. but you will only be required to read up to five chapters.
