Questions- for entrants
Should you have any questions, please enter them in a comment below. If they have already been answered, they will not be answered again.
A)
Question: Can I still enter if...
Answer: No. No new entries or corrected previous entry forms will be accepted.
B)
Question: Will you be running a contest like this next year?
Answer: No. I do not intend to be involved in the administration of an awards contest on Wattpad again.
—————
1.
Question: How many one-shots need to be in your book to enter it?
Answer: Ideally you would have 3 oneshots (thus 3 chapters) at a minimum, but having only one is acceptable.
2.
Question: Can I enter a story that has 'private' chapters (that require the reader to follow the account to have access)?
Answer: This is not ideal, but it is permitted so long as the private chapters are later in the story. Your judges will not be asked to follow you in order to read those chapters, and they will most likely be skipped if encountered.
3.
Question: If I change my username or story title, and I don't let you know, is my entry still in the contest?
Answer: NO!
4.
Question: If I ask you questions that are clearly answered elsewhere (e.g., how to enter, or if RPF can enter), will you go through the entire process again just for me?
Answer: NOPE. I have a job and a life. If you can't take the time to read through the contest, I certainly won't ask the people who have graciously agreed to judge to consider your entry.
5.
Question: May I enter my story before it adheres to all of the rules?
Answer: No. You may enter it after it complies with rules for submission.
6.
Question: Are multimedia entries accepted (e.g., video, instagram books)?
Answer: While your story may have occasional pictures/gifs, they cannot be the predominant feature. Videos entries may not compete. This is intended as a contest for the written word, not for visual elements. Any pictures/gifs in your story will not be taken into consideration by the judges, unless they are offensive.
7.
Question: If after this competition I have a chapter I'd like to post that's against the rules for the competition would I be able to post it since it would be done with?
Answer: While I could not stop you, I don't want that to happen. I specifically do not want to reward works that contain the subject matter discussed. If you were to display or mention an award from this competition, it reflects both on the competition and myself as an individual, as this is my personal account, not a contest account. Pedophilia/bestiality/necrophilia are all banned on Wattpad anyway.
8.
Question: My story has _whatever_, can I enter it? Is _whatever_ against the rules?
Answer: I am no longer answering questions like these in depth. Please see chapter entitled, 'The banned topics.'
9.
Question: Can ongoing (unfinished) stories enter?
Answer: Yes.
10.
Question: Can it have a lot of chapters?
Answer: The only requirement is that more than 5 chapters be present for the judges to read, unless the story is completed (then it can be shorter), or consisting of Oneshots. (So- yes.)
11.
Question: Do you enter whole books or just certain chapter(s)?
Answer: Whole books.
12.
Question: Can I enter a book that has banned material if it has a 'trigger warning' at the beginning of the chapters that contain that sort of content?
Answer: No. The ban is absolute. Please see the chapter entitled, 'The banned topics.' At least, I think it's called that. I'm pretty tired.
13.
Question: If I have a book of oneshots from a fandom with its own category, should I enter it under 'Oneshots,' or the category?
Answer: Oneshots. (E.g., a book of 1D Oneshots belongs in the Oneshots category, not the 1D category.)
14.
Question: May a work be submitted that was co-written (either in whole or in part)?
Answer: Conditionally. While only one author needs to submit the entry form (to get the process started), every author that has made significant creative contributions to the work must (1) be tagged in the submission form and (2) reply with an agreement to the work being submitted to the contest. All authors for a given work will receive any prizes that are won by the piece.
15.
Question: I want to run my own awards contest, can you give me some tips?
Answer: My #1 tip is to reconsider. I will not provide individualized advice. However, I have written an entire guide with my input regarding how I think it's best to run a user-run Wattpad writing contest. You can find it on my profile.
16.
Question: Ok, this isn't exactly a question I get asked as something I've had to correct a lot regarding entries. I suspect a bunch of people will miss out on competing because they weren't paying attention when they entered and ignored my response to their entry. Please see below.
Answer: If you have a book in which, of all the major character roles, only one is a celebrity, then what category your book belongs in will be based purely on that celebrity. A problem a lot of potential entrants are making is not paying attention to the category groupings (E.g., a purely One Direction story does not go under 'Other bands/Musicians, a Dan/Phil story does not go under 'Other Youtubers,' and there are no 'Singer,' 'Youtuber,' 'Band,' or 'Celebrity' categories.) If there are multiple celebrities in major roles, they each must be considered when it comes to categorization. I don't have the time to read through ever single entry to make sure that it was entered into the correct category. However, if the judges are reading it, and determine it was placed in the wrong category, it may be disqualified.
Examples:
(a) A story (not a book of oneshots) with Andy Biersack as the only celebrity persona would go under 'Other Musicians/Bands.' This is because he is a musician, but not a member of One Direction, 5SOS, or a KPOP performer.
(b) A story (not a book of oneshots) with Niall Horan and Zayn Malik as the only celebrities in major roles would belong in 'One Direction.' This is because both celebrities are either past or present members of the group, One Direction.
(c) A story (not a book of oneshots) that had Andy Biersack, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik as the only celebrities in major roles would go under, 'Other celebrities/Combos.' This because major roles are based on celebrities that fit in more than one category.
(d) A story (not a book of oneshots) that has Eminem and Taylor Swift as the only major celebrities in it that fill major roles would go under 'Other musicians/Bands.' This is because they are both musicians that are not members of One Direction, 5SOS, or KPOP performers. Because they would both each belong in the same category, they are grouped in that category. Another example would be a book with Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. Both being Youtubers other than Dan/Phil, the story would be placed in 'Other Youtubers.'
(e) A story (not just oneshots) in which Jared Leto is the only celebrity that a major character is based on may be entered into either Actor/Actress or Other bands/Musicians, as his career has included material appropriate for either. Similar cases would be stories with Jennifer Hudson, Andy Samberg, Will Smith, David Bowie, Frank Sinatra, Ice-T, or Mos Def.
(f) A story (not just oneshots) in which Zayn Malik is the only celebrity upon which a major character is based may be entered into either One Direction or Other Musicians/Bands, as he is both a former member of One Direction and currently a musician that is not a member of One Direction, 5SOS, or a KPOP performer.
(g) A book of oneshots that contains any of the above, in any combination, would go under 'Oneshots.'

Question: Why do you keep tagging me on the entry/judge spots chapter?
Answer: For entrants, because you need to be tagged on that chapter so that the judges can easily find you, so that you are aware your entry is officially part of the contest, and so that you can make sure I spelled the title of your entry correctly. For judges, because entrants need to be able to find you in order to follow you. Wattpad will always remove inline comments (including tags) whenever a line is modified, though I've also found it seems to happen at random. Thus, I have to re-tag you fairly often. Trust me, it's not because I love getting yelled at.
18.
Question: How will I know if my story is 'Mature?'
Answer: Here is a portion of the Wattpad content guidelines, word for word:
"Mature Rating
Mature stories are intended for an audience that is 17 and up. There are restrictions on discovering Mature stories on Wattpad that help ensure they reach the correct audience. A story must be rated Mature if it contains any of the following:
A sex scene Self-harm themes or scenes (including suicide and eating disorders)Graphic depictions of violence Media containing partial nudity, BDSM imagery, graphic violence, or gore
If your work does not meet the definitions of Mature above, but you still feel your work is intended for a mature audience, you can still select this rating when you create your story.
Everyone Rating
Stories rated Everyone are intended for an audience that is 13 and up. These stories contain no Mature content, but may contain:
References to sex References to self-harm Non-graphic depictions of violence.
Prohibited Content
The following guidelines list content that is not allowed on Wattpad. This is not an exhaustive list, and we reserve the right to remove any content that we deem inappropriate.
Sex on Wattpad
The following sexual content is not allowed on Wattpad, and will be removed:
Pornographic stories Stories containing sexual content with persons under the age of 16.Stories encouraging or promoting non-consensual sex Stories intended solely for sexual roleplay or messaging Stories which encourage any other illegal sex acts, such as bestiality or necrophilia."

Question: If my entry is 'mature,' do I need to follow the 'not mature' judges?
Answer: Yes. Every entrant must follow every PRJ for every category into which they have entered works. The PRJs will be asked to check for this, and I will be checking both at random and for every potential prize-winner as well. Anyone found not to be following any of their PRJs will be disqualified permanently without warning. You are not required to follow your category's RcuJs, but it is encouraged.
(related) Question: What if new PRJs are appointed during the course of the contest? Do we have to follow those too?
Answer: Yes. I try to update the 'Judging spots available' and 'Entry form and categories' pages every time a new PRJ is appointed. Under no circumstances will any prizes be given to any participant who is not following all of their PRJs.
(another related) Question: Do I have to follow the RcuJs or RsvJs?
Answer: You are not required to follow any RcuJs listed for your category, but it is polite. You are not required to follow any RsvJs listed for your category until/unless they become a PRJ.
20.
Question: Can I edit/update my entry during the contest?
Answer: Totally! However, it's not feasible to tell you exactly when your entry will be judged.
21.
Question: I have more questions-
Answer: -Try reading any chapters you skipped, as well as the Questions chapter for judges, before you ask me, please. I am more likely to respond to short, respectful, coherent, comments than DMs.
22.
Question: Will you really be enforcing the rule about following judges?
Answer: 100% yes! I may choose, at any time, to disqualify entrants not following their PRJs in a timely fashion. There will be no reconsideration/reinstatements after disqualifications. Every applicant had to affirm that they had read the rules and followed their judges. The rules clearly state that newly appointed judges have to be followed as well, and that it's the responsibility of entrants to keep up.
If I find you are not following all your judges, might warn you first, I might not. Regardless, no one will receive any rewards that has not followed every PRJ for every category in which they have entries. I will check every entrant up for a prize myself, immediately before announcing results.
23.
Question: I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time with the contest!
Answer: <3
