Dianna received a text from her husband.  "Bringing Dan home for dinner.  Pick up some steaks"

Dan was her husbands partner.  They were like brothers.  Funny how they were so close.  Dan and Dianna grew up in the same neighborhood.  Dated all thru high school.  Then broke up when she met Tom.  Tom was from the north side and she from the south side.  She hadn't seen Danny in years.  A year ago her husband brought Danny home for dinner and introduced him as his new partner.  He was surprised to know that they already knew each other from the old neighborhood.  Dianna was apprehensive at first.  She thought he still might hold a grudge against her for dumping him.  He was happily married and her fears were alleviated. Still it was weird having her ex boyfriend and her husband working so closely together.

Dianna bought the steaks and got the grill ready.  In walked her husband and Danny.  Danny gave her a harmless peck on the cheek and said hello.  

"Hey, honey, can you make a salad while I grill the steaks?"  He took two bottles of beer from the frig and they both went out to the deck.  Both detectives were off duty the next day so they stayed up late talking mostly work talk.  Dianna was getting tired and said goodnight.  As she kissed her husband goodnight she told Danny to say hello to his wife for her.

"Kathy moved out of the house a week ago.  We are getting a divorce."

"Sorry to hear that" as she patted Danny on the shoulder.  She left the guys on the deck talking. She breathed a sigh of relief as she walked up the stairs to their bedroom.  From what she heard from their conversation they didn't have any leads on the jewelry heist.  The drop would go off without a hitch.  She just somehow had to work it into the fantasy she was creating for their nineteenth wedding anniversary next week.
