"Come on Dianna, lets go upstairs to your bedroom.  I'm going to give you a chance to get a  Get out of Jail Free Card.

Dianna sat on her bed.  Danny locked the bedroom door and leaned against it.

"As I see it you've got two choices.  First choice, take your chances with the judge in two weeks.  He might give you five years, ten at the most.  Second choice, divorce Tom, marry me, give me the child you owe me.  The last piece of evidence against you magically disappears and you walk."

Dianna just looked at him not knowing what to say. 

"Oh what the hell.  Who am I kidding?  I could never force you to marry me.  So I'll give you a third choice."

"Because you're a nice guy?"

"No, because I'm still in love with you."

He took a tiny red ruby out of his pocket and placed it on the night stand next to her wedding picture.  That's the last piece of evidence against you.  You pick it up and you're a free woman.  I walk out of your life and you never see me again.  All you have to do is pick up the ruby and tell me you lied to me on that prom night so long ago. Look into my eyes and tell me you don't love me."

Dianna looked at the wedding picture of her and Tom.  All she could see were 19 years of lies and deceit on both their parts.  She looked at Danny and all she could see was the young handsome man in the tuxedo with the pink carnation and the love and promises they made to each other on her prom night.  Then she looked at the tiny red ruby glistening in the sun on her nightstand.  It meant her freedom.  She picked up the tiny ruby.  It felt so very heavy in the palm of her hand.  Once destroyed her problems would be over.  She looked at Danny and could see the hurt and disappointment in his eyes.  She unbuttoned the top button of her blouse and put the tiny red ruby in her bra.  Then she walked over to Danny.  

"Detective, Detective" she said.  She loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt. If you want the piece of evidence back you're going to have to work awfully hard to find it."

He put his arm around her and started to kiss her.  She pushed him back against the door.  Then she walked over to her bed.  She laid across the bed and waved him over.  "I told you detective you are going to have to work hard to find it."

Dianna didn't know how she would feel tomorrow but right now with Danny's arms around her it just felt right.  She'd give him everything she owed him, her love and a child.  She was still in her thirties.  She could give him the baby he always wanted with her.  It was as if he read her mind when he whispered to her.  "It's been such a long time.  I want two.  You owe me interest.

Her cell phone rang and she kicked it off the bed with her foot.  Whoever was calling would just have to leave a message.
