Chapter Eight: Crimson Water
We trotted down into the west sector of the arena. It was a huge tropical area, mostly water, with some land, dotted with palm trees.
I glanced over at Chara, who was aiming her sharp knives at the water. "Well, don't just stand there!" Chara yelled. "We need food don't we? Help me hunt!"
I nodded, drew my bow, and pointed it towards the water.
I opened my mouth to speak, but closed it quickly. I saw another tribute, a female, picking coconuts from one of the trees, and shoving them in her bag.
"We need to get on land, and she's stopping us, I think you know what we need to do." Chara whispered.
I slowly nodded, and lifted my already drawn bow, so that it was now facing our victim.
I gulped, and aimed more carefully, trying to be as silent as I could.
I was about to let go of my arrow, and let this be over with when I heard someone yell, "VIOLET!"
A few seconds after, the person came running to the girl.
But there was another guy behind him.
The secret attacker tackled him and they both crashed in the river, fighting and grunting, coloring the once cristal clear water, a murky shade of red.
"Carina!" Chara bursted. It startled me and I let go of the arrow. It flew through the air, and hit the girl on the side of her neck. I heard her gasp her last breath of air before she collapsed in the salty water, turning it an even darker shade of red. I heard a loud cannon go off, a signal of her death.
"Run!" I whisper-shouted to Chara, trying to sludge my way out of the water.
"Wait, I'll be right back." Chara said swimming, to the opposite side of shore I was at. She swam through bloody water, surrounding the girl. She stood up and grabbed the backpack she had dropped. "Score!" She mouthed to me, with a grin on her face, as she swam back and we reunited.
"Well, what'd we get?" I asked. "Anything can help at this point."
"Lets get somewhere a little more, safe, first." She suggested.
"Right." I said nodding my head.
We walked for a bit, and found ourselves by a small cave, which we climbed into and looked at our newly found loot. She pulled out 3 big coconuts, a small medical pack with some bandages, a rope, a sharp but small dagger, and a blow dart.
"This should be enough to get us by, for now.." I said, and Chara nodded in agreement.
"Let's go find a better place to hit the hay, shall we?" She asked with a smirk on her face.
"Sure." I said.
We soon began our journey, for a home in the arena, how ever long we'll be here.
