The Interviews (Part One)
Julius Flickerman's P.O.V.
"Hello, everyone!" I shout to the awaiting Capitol crowd, "Welcome to the interviews of round two!"
The audience cheers wildly as I take a seat in the stage.
"Please welcome to the stage, Damon Keaton and Bryce Landon from District One!"
The two boys walk onto the stage, smiling and waving to the crowd. They take a set beside me and I start the interview.
"I'll start off with Damon. So, do you have a favorite weapon?"
"Yeah, of courses I do. I'm a Career! I use a mace," he replies.
"Right. How many people are in the Career alliance so far?"
"Ummm...five, including myself."
I raise my eyebrows, "Really? Who is all in the alliance?"
"Bryce, me, Liam, Brendan, and Tai Hosman from Four."
"Thats good. All of them got pretty decent training scores."
"Yeah...too bad mine was the lowest of all of them."
"An eight isn't too bad for a Career."
"Yeah, but some of the tributes that aren't in the Career alliance got scores higher than mine."
"Hmmm. I see your point. Well, I'm sure you'll do better in the Games. For now, Im gonna move on to Bryce," I say, turning to Bryce.
"How are you enjoying the Capitol, Bryce?" I start.
"I'm loving it. It's much nicer than home."
"Really? That's always good to hear! What arena are you hoping for?"
He thought for a moment, "To be honest, I don't really care. I'm a Career, so whatever type of arena it is, I won't have to worry about surviving because I'll have everything I need in the cornucopia."
"Good answer. But, what if you don't win over the cornucopia?"
He snorted, "What do you mean? Of course we'll get the cornucopia. The Careers always get it."
"Yes, but there is a very strong alliance going in there. If I were them, I'd try to take over the cornucopia."
Buzz!!!
I rise from my seat, "Sorry boys, it was a pleasure speaking with you, but the other tributes are waiting! I hope to see you both for the final round!"
The crowd cheers wildly as the boy's exit the stage.
"Stay tuned for District Two!"
District Two's Interview
"Welcome back to the interviews, ladies and gentlemen! Please give a round of applause for District Two's tributes, Liam Fledger and Brendan Hankson!"
The crowd shouts their names as they enter the stage.
"Hello," Liam says once he's seated.
"Hi, Liam. I'll start with you."
He nods, "Okay."
"So how long have you two been friends," I start off.
"Since I started going to the academy, which was seven years ago."
"Good. So how does it feel to be one of the higher scorers?"
Liam leans back in his seat, "Pretty good. I feel confident that I'll make it to the final round too."
"That's the spirit! We here in the Capitol love it when positive tributes like you turn up."
He shrugs, "I've always had a more laid-back kind of personality. I try not to let things get to me."
"It was nice talking with you, but your friend, Brendan, has been waiting his turn."
"Ok," Brendan says with a smile.
"Brendan, how far would you be willing to go to win the Games?"
He hesitates before saying, "Well, what do you mean 'how far'?"
"Like, would you kill Liam if it came down to it, no matter how long you've known each other?"
I look at Liam, "I would never kill Liam. The farthest I would go to win is maybe kill some of my allies, but never Liam."
I nod in understanding, "Do you think Liam would go against you if you two were the only two left?"
Brendan looked at Liam again to see his reaction to the question. Liam was only staring at the floor of the stage.
"I-I'm not sure..." Brendan finally says.
I change the subject, "Is there anything in particular that you hope to see at the cornucopia?"
"Umm yeah, sword."
"Well, there are always plenty of them at the horn."
Buzz!!!
"Sorry, guys, that's all the time we have. Hopefully we can talk more after you make it through the mini game," I say, then I turn to the crowd and shout, "That was District Two's interview, ladies and gentlemen! Next up, District Three!"
District Three's Interview
"Welcome back, everyone, to the interviews! Please welcome District Three's Jackson Toures and Blake Richard!"
The audience cheers their names and claps their hands wildly as the two boys enter the stage. They both settle themselves in the seats beside mine.
"Let's start with little Jackson, here."
Jackson pushes his glasses into place on his nose.
"Alright, what do you think of the Capitol, Jackson?"
His eyes are locked in the audience when he says, "It's...overwhelming."
I cock an eyebrow, "Overwhelming?"
He nods, "There's just so much to see and so many people moving about with their crazy clothes."
I nod in understanding, "I can see how things here might seem big and crazy to a twelve-year-old."
Jackson doesn't say anything. He just continues staring at the crowd.
"So...any allies for the Games?"
He gives a slight nod, "Yeah, me, Kiel, Brad and Conner."
"Oh. That's a lot of the younger tributes, if I'm correct?"
"Yes, unfortunately. We probably won't get very far..."
After a second of silence, I announced that I would move on to talk to Blake.
"So Blake, why did you volunteer?"
Blake looks around, his face turning a bit red, "Umm, I did it to be with someone."
"Do you have a relative that was in the girl's Games?"
He shakes his head, "No."
"It's killing me! Tell me who you volunteered to be with!" I push.
He sighs, "So much for trying to keep this a secret. The truth is...I've always had this crush on Kierra Garten from my district."
"Oh really?" I say, smiling.
"Hey, I didn't have to tell you."
"Alright. I won't make fun of you, but do tell me, are you going to team up with her for the final round?"
"That's what I'm hoping will happen, that is, if I make it that far. I hope I do."
"Don't worry, there are only twelve deaths for the round to end. I'm sure you won't be one of those twelve."
Blake grins, "Yeah, not to mention, I'm in a really great alliance."
"That's always good. Who's all in it?" I ask.
"Dean, Nathan, Vance and myself."
"You really do have a great alliance. If I'm correct, all of you use long-ranged weapons."
"That's true, except for Dean, that is. I don't really know what he does. Whatever it is, he must be pretty good at it, judging by the score he got."
Buzz!!!
"That was too soon! Thanks for the chat, I hope to be talking to you after this round! Give a big round of applause for District Three's tributes!"
As the two boys walk off the stage, the crowd screams their names and cheers loudly.
I face the camera, "Stay tuned for the next interview!"
