The Interviews Part 4

Julius Flickerman's P.O.V.

"Hello, ladies an gentlemen, welcome back to the interviews. Please give a round of applause for District Ten's Hayley Summers and Lydia York!"

The two girls make their way on to the stage as the audience claps and cheers their names.

"So Hayley, I hear you are in a rather nice alliance."

"Yeah, I'm really lucky to have them for my allies."

"I had a wonderful time talking with Brenda Long, she's such an amazing girl," I comment.

"She really is. I met her in the Training Center. I was building a shelter and camouflaging it with leaves. Somehow she was able to tell me exactly what I was doing and she knew exactly where I was."

"Interesting. Now, how do you feel about your training score? A three wasn't it? I think that's the lowest score yet this year, unfortunately."

"I saw myself getting a low score from the get-go. I'm not talented with weapons of any sort. All I did in my private session was show them my skills with climbing and building things. Which by the way, didn't go so great."

"What a shame. At least you're in a strong alliance," I say.

"Yeah, but the only reason why I'm in the alliance is because of Brenda."

"Well, it was nice talking with you, but I should move on to Lydia now," I say, and Hayley nods in agreement.

"Ok, so Lydia, what is your favorite thing about staying in the Capitol?"

"Everything! It's amazing!" she replies enthusiastically.

"Good, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. What are you hoping to see at the cornucopia?"

"No other tributes would be nice!" she says and the crowd laughs.

"That's a good one, but I'm sure that's what everyone wants. But seriously, what are you really hoping to see?"

"Some throwing knives I guess. Just something that's not too heavy," she answers.

"I see. Are you happy with your alliance?"

"Yeah, even though it is basically all thirteen or twelve-year-olds. Excluding Grace Price, of course. She's seventeen."

"How come you aren't in an alliance with Hayley?" I ask, "I mean, she is your district partner, after all."

"That doesn't mean I have to be her ally. Besides, she was no where to be seen when we formed our alliance," Lydia points out.

"Hmm. Well I guess that's-"

Buzz!!!

"Oh, we really need to make the time longer on these interviews. Thank you for the talk, girls, I hope we see at least one of you after the Games. Don't go anywhere, ladies and gentlemen, next up is District Eleven, Iona Flourisha and Grace Price!"

District Eleven's Interview

"Come on up, girls!" I call to the two lovely girls from District Eleven. The crowd cheers in delight as they walk up to me and take a seat.

"Wow you look fabulous!"

Both of them giggle, "Thank you!"

"Iona, we are all wondering, why did you volunteer? Did you know Sienna Themmer?"

Iona's face looked confused, "Who's Sienna Themmer?"

"The young girl you volunteered for at the Reapings," I remind her.

"Oh! Yeah her. I don't know her at all. I was already planning on volunteering from the first place."

"Why?"

"Because I'm eighteen, and I feel ready for this. Besides, I don't have a reason to stay home. I have no parents or siblings and only a few friends that I rarely talk to. So I figured that I might as well just volunteer for someone who probably actually does have all of those things at home."

"That's very thoughtful. You did a good thing too. We here in the Capitol love volunteers. You get lots of sponsors that way, and more fans."

"Yeah, I feel pretty good about it."

"Do you think you'll make it to the final Games this year?"

"I'm sure I will. But you never know, the odds could or could not be in my favor. Sometimes you need to let fate take the wheel on some things."

"Words of knowledge. So do you have a favorite weapon?"

"Double swords. Love 'em."

I raise my eyebrows, "Really? That's interesting. I also hear you're in the Career pack."

"Yep," she says, nodding her head, "I'm really glad about it too."

"Well I hate to say this, but I really should move on to Grace now."

"That's ok," Iona smiles in understanding.

"So, Grace, why were you stealing?"

"Why do you think? So I can live," she replies plainly, getting the crowd to laugh.

"What were you thinking when the peacekeepers caught you trying to get away?"

"Embarrassed."

I raise an eyebrow, "Why embarrassed? Wouldn't you be worried or scared?"

She shook her head, "Nah, it was pretty embarrassing for me because I had never ever been caught before, and I've been doing it since I was around six. I guess it just wasn't my day."

"Why did you pick that day to try to leave the district?"

"Because, it would have been perfect. I was planning on getting away on a supply train that was coming in that day."

"Why didn't you go on one when you were younger? There were still supply trains then too."

"Yeah, but I wasn't smart enough then and I couldn't plan things the way I do now," she explains, but somehow I feel like she's hiding the real reason.

"Why did you agree to be in an alliance with a lot of the younger girls?"

"Because nobody else was lining up o ask me to be in their alliance. They probably didn't want me around them because they think they can't trust me."

I shrug, "Perhaps."

The buzzer rings signaling the interviews commencement.

"Sorry, girls. It was a pleasure and I hope to see you both very soon!"

The girls smile and wave to the crowd, which cheers loudly and shouts their names.

"Alright, we have only one more interview, District Twelve! Don't go anywhere, people, you don't want to miss it!"

District Twelve's Interview

"Welcome back, everyone, for our last interview for the ladies Games! Please give a big round of applause for Kaya Willow and Riley Holtz from District Twelve!"

The two girls smile and wave as they come onto the stage and take a seat beside me.

"Hey, girls. I'll start with Kaya."

She smiles nervously and nods.

"So what's it like back home, Kaya?"

"Umm nice. I feel better when I'm there, with my dad and brother, Dean."

"That's good. What do you do there for fun?"

She looks around for a moment, "Nothing really. I go to school."

"Oh, do you have any good friends there?"

"Not really, but I know some of their names."

"Ok, what arena are you hoping for?"

"Something with mountains would be nice. I feel like it would be cool."

"Me too. Do you think you'll make it as far as the final Games?"

She looks at her shoes, "Not really. But I hope I do. I really want to get back home with my dad and Dean."

"What do you think you would do if Dean got picked for the next Games?"

"That would be awful! I would never want him to go in the Games."

"I'm sure he feels the same way about you. Ok, I'll move on to Riley now."

She nods.

"Riley, what's your favorite thing the tributes have done so far?"

"Why do you mean?"

"Like, the chariot ride, the interviews, the training-"

"Oh, I really liked the Opening Ceremonies. I really wished our costumes were more original though."

"Well everyone loved them, so that's good."

"Yeah, it is."

"What is your alliance planning for the arena?"

"Umm we are gonna split and meet up somewhere later. Grace and Lydia are going into the Bloodbath to get some supplies while Kaya and I run to somewhere safe."

"Sounds like a good plan. Thanks for sharing with me."

"Well, I probably wouldn't have told you if my ally wasn't sitting with me."

"You do realize that the other tributes are watching the interview right now, do you? So they heard you."

Riley looked around, clearly oblivious of this fact. I laughed, "Sorry, I should've warned you. I wasn't sure you didn't know."

She waves it off, "It's no big."

Buzz!!!

"That was too soon. I'll see you soon I hope. Have fun in the Games tomorrow."

The girls walk off the stage leaving the crowd still cheering.

"Unfortunately that was all for the girl's interviews. Ladies and gentlemen, Kaya Willow and Riley Holtz from District Twelve! I'm Julius Flickerman, and those were the first interviews this year!"
