The Interviews Part 3
Julius Flickerman's P.O.V.
"Welcome back, everyone, to the interviews! Allow me to introduce Mandy Woodsworth and Brenda Long from District Seven!" I yell as the two girls climb onto the stage.
"You two look gorgeous today!"
Mandy wore a deep green dress that reached to her ankles. Her hair was up in a bun, with a loose strand curling down her cheek.
Brenda wore a light green dress that reached to her knees. The fabric was an even lighter green towards the top of the dress, where delicate leaves were embroidered. Her raven black hair was in a loose braid that ran down her shoulder.
"Mandy, how are you today?"
"I'm wonderful! I'm really enjoying it here in the Capitol," she says.
"That's good to hear. What weapons are you interested in?"
"Mostly knives. There's so much you can do with them."
"Nice. Are you happy with the allies you have?"
"Sorta... Sometimes we don't get along very well."
"That's not good."
"It really isn't. In fact, I kinda worry about the alliance breaking up right away," she says sadly.
"Funny, just earlier, Rayla Knight was telling me thy she thinks the alliance will make it pretty far."
Mandy shrugs, "Maybe that's her opinion."
"Maybe. Ok, I'm moving on to Brenda now."
"Alright," Mandy smiles.
"Brenda, a lot of us have been wondering, how did you become blind? You said at the Reapings that you've been blind since you were five."
"Yeah. There was a fire..."
She seemed to drift off. I figured that she didn't want to talk about it, so I changed the subject.
"I was pretty amazed with your training score. A five isn't bad considering er...you know what I mean."
She let out a small laugh, "Yeah I was a little surprised too. I honestly didn't know what to expect because I didn't know how I did."
"What weapon did you use?"
"A bow and arrows. It was kinda hard."
I gasp, "I'll say! How were you able to hit the targets?"
"Like I said before, I don't know how I did. Maybe I hit some, maybe I didn't. It was really hard because I couldn't hear the targets. I can only use a bow because of my ears. That's how I do it, I listen. A lot of people can't hear half as well as I can," she explains.
"You are truly amazing, Brenda. I can't wait to see what you can do. Speaking of which, do you even have plans?"
"Sorta. My alliance and I are still working that out, but we think we have the idea. Sorry, but I don't think I should give away our plan."
"Oh of course!"
Buzz!!!
"Awww. Sorry girls, I really enjoyed talking with you and hope to see you again! Ladies and gentlemen, District Seven's tributes Mandy Woodsworth and Brenda Long!"
I pause as the girls walk off the stage, "District Eight is up next with Sage Salereno and Crimson Grey!"
District Eight's Interview
"Welcome back to the interviews! Here we are with District Eight's Sage Salereno and Crimson Grey!"
"Hello!" Sage yells to the crowd, getting a lot of shouts back.
"Sage, I'll start with you," I suggest.
"Ok," she says, smiling.
"How are you liking the Capitol?"
"It's nice. Really fancy, but I don't feel like it's the place for me."
"That's really too bad. A lot of people love the Capitol," I say, then I change to a different topic, "What was going through your mind when your name got called at the Reapings?"
"To be honest, I was pretty chill. I figured I would get picked sooner or later. I mean, I'm eighteen, so at least fate waited until I was old enough! Besides, I feel that I can handle the Games."
"That's interesting. So, do you have an alliance at all?"
"Yeah, Brenda Long, Delinia Spokes and Hayley Summers," she replies, sounding happy.
"Sounds like good allies. I must say, that Brenda really isn't what she seems."
"Yeah, I thought she would get like a two for a training score, not a five. I wonder what she did."
"Apparently archery," I answer.
Sage's jaw drops, "Wow! I didn't expect that."
"I know. You and your other allies are really lucky to have her."
I noticed Crimson rolling her eyes.
"I'll move on to Crimson now," I say and Sage nods, "So, Crimson, any plans for the Games?"
"Yeah. Win. Kill anyone who gets in my way," she replies casually, brushing something off the back of her hand.
I raise an eyebrow, "Even the Careers?"
"Yeah, sure."
"Well ok. Any particular weapon you're hoping to see at the cornucopia?"
"Axes. Specifically throwing axes," she replies.
"Nice. And no allies for you?"
"Nope," she said, popping the "p" when she said it, "You can't trust anyone in the Hunger Games. Everyone knows that."
"I think some of the girls this year would beg to differ. For example, Flora Cottonweed and Bella Rosewood. Also Amira Senn and Kierra Garten."
She snorts, "I don't think that will last long in the Games. You'd be surprised what something like that could do to a friendship, even one that has lasted so long."
I stare at Crimson, who has started to examine her finger nails. There is an awkward silence for a moment, but it was saved by the buzzer.
"Thank you, girls, I hope to see at least one of you for the final games. Ladies and gentlemen, that was District Eight's Sage Salereno and Crimson Grey! Give them a big round of applause!"
The crowd cheers wildly as the two girls leave the stage. A face the camera and say, "Up next, District Nine!"
District Nine's Interview
"Welcome back, everyone. Here we are with Flora Cottonweed and Bella Rosewood from District Nine!"
The two girls saunter onto the stage, holding hands.
"So how are you two?"
"Awesome!" they both say in sync.
"I'll start with Flora. So, what was going through your head when you heard Bella's name be called?"
"Not anything. I don't know if I was even thinking. I remember trying to volunteer but Bella stopped me."
"Oh really? Then what did you think when your name was called?"
"I think my whole body went numb," she said, receiving some laughs from the audience.
"How far do you think your alliance will make it?"
"There's really no way to tell, but we work really well together. We have a lot in common."
"I'm sure you do, they remind me a lot of you guys. What kind of weapons are you interested in?"
"Spears catch my eye. Bella is more of a short-ranged weapon kind of girl though."
"Nice. How about arenas? Any particular kind you'd like?"
"One with fields...like District Nine."
I nod, "Interesting. Ok, now for Bella."
"Hey, Julius."
"Hi, Bella. Now, if you could go back to the day of the Reapings, would you've let Flora volunteer for you? Having the knowledge that her name would just get picked anyways."
"No, I wouldn't change a thing. I don't think I'd be able to handle the Games without at least a little souvenir from home."
"Well, that's what a token is for, remember?"
"What I mean is, I don't ever go anywhere without Flora. She's the sister I never had."
"That's nice. Do you know anyone else from your district who we might see in the boy's Games?"
She shook her head, "Flora and I don't really hang with guys."
The buzzer suddenly goes off.
"Wow, that felt like it wasn't very long. I enjoyed talking with you, girls, and I hope to see you for the final round of the Games. Next up, District Ten, livestock!"
