The Finalist Interviews (Part One)

Julius Flickerman's P.O.V.

I stand up in the stage before the huge crowd of cheering Capitol citizens, "Hello, Panem, and welcome to the interviews of round three! Please welcome to the stage Liam Fledger, Brendan Hankson, Jean Lawren, Clarice Amberton, Kierra Garten, and Blake Richard!"

The crowd goes wild as the six tributes walk onto the stage and take a seat on the long sofa beside me.

When the audience calms down, I start the interview, "I want to start this off with giving you all a big congratulations for making it this far in the Quarter Quell!"

They smile as the crowd shouts their congratulations as well.

"Alright, let's start with Clarice! How are you today?"

Clarice smiles when I say her name, "I'm wonderful! Getting ready for the Games is so exciting!"

"I'm sure it is! So what were you thinking when the Games were over and you were on your way back here?"

She frowns, "I'm not sure. I was a little disappointed I guess. I wish we had more time in the arena. It was so much fun!"

"Really? Well I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Did things go as planned for you?"

"Sadly, no. I wanted to make a lot more kills. The one kill I did make was rather satisfying though, I must say."

I raise my eyebrows, "You seemed pretty content in the arena. I was very impressed."

She smiles, "Well, of course you were! Who wouldn't be?"

I shrug, "I don't know. I'll say one thing, I am definitely betting on you and Jean here."

Clarice's smile fades when I say Jean's name, "I see..."

Before she can make any comments that might flip Jean's lid, I interrupt by saying that I'm moving on to Jean now.

"Whatever."

"So, Jean, are you relieved to be out of the last arena? You had quite an injury from Sapphire."

She frowns, "Ah, yes, Sapphire. I was glad to see Iona kill her. But, in answer to your question, yes, I am happy to be out of the last arena because that one was so boring. Hopefully the next one will have more action and better tributes."

"Oh, I've heard it will be a very interesting arena with a big twist."

Jean leans forward in her seat, "Really? I'm even more excited for it now!"

"I am too. How far do you think you will make it in the final round?"

Jean sits back and looks around, "Is that even a question for me? I don't think I'll make it far because I know that I'm going to win. I'm not even slightly worried."

I cock an eyebrow at her comment, "You do realize that Don Jandin said he would win, but he didn't even make it past the last round."

"Yes, I realize that, but I'm not as stupid as he was. Not to mention, I'm probably a much better fighter."

"I see...well, I'm going to move on to Liam now," I announce and Jean nods, "Liam, you had a scare at the end of the last Games, didn't you?"

He nods, "Yeah, I thought I died until I woke up in the Capitol. I was surprised when they said I made it out."

"I'm sure some of the other tributes were surprised too. Brendan thought you were dead."

"Well, a canon didn't go off, obviously."

"Actually," I correct, "a canon did go off, but it was for Brad Barlin from District Four. He had a bad wound in his shoulder from a dagger and it got infected."

"Oh, so you thought I was truly dead?" Liam turns to Brendan.

Brendan nods, "Yeah."

"Well, I'm still here, so don't be worried anymore," Liam says.

"I wasn't worried," Brendan says, "I was angry, and I was going to kill Eric for it until Tai did it for me."

"Anyways," I break in, "Do you have any new allies for the Games, Liam?"

"Yes, actually, we joined Jean and Clarice," he answers.

"Interesting. You four will make a good team. I assume you guys will be taking the cornucopia?"

He nods, "I'm sure that's what we're doing."

I nod, "Alright, I'll move on to your friend, Brendan, now."

Brendan smiles, "Ok."

"So, Brendan, how are you doing after your knee injury?"

He rolls his eyes, "It's like it never happened, but I'm still annoyed that it happened. I wanted to kill Eric for what he did."

"Yes. How far are you willing to go to win this?"

He hesitates, "Well, originally, Liam and I planned to do whatever it takes, even if it means killing each other. But now, I don't think I could ever kill Liam. He's really grown on me."

Liam pretends to wipe a tear away as he says, "Isn't that touching? I never knew you cared."

Brendan shakes his head and elbows him, "Oh, shut up."

I laugh, "You two have a good friendship. I'm very jealous."

"Really? It's not like you have to go into the Games," Brendan says. I look at him, trying to figure out if he was serious or trying to be sarcastic.

"Anyways, are you disappointed that you didn't make any kills?" I change the subject.

"Not really. I wanted to at first, so that Damon would be pleased, but he died so..."

"Ah, well, I think it's time to move on to Kierra. It was nice talking with you, Brendan."

"Hi, Julius!" Kierra says.

"Hello, it's been awhile, Kierra," I say, "How have you been since the last Games?"

She frowns, "Honestly, not great. I've been quite lonely without Amira. She was always with me. Flora came to my room a lot, but it wasn't the same..."

I nod, acting like I understand the feeling, "I'm sure Flora feels the same way. I'm sure you two will get along nicely in the next Games."

She nods, "We are already becoming good friends, but I will never forget Amira."

"So, what do you think the twist will be for the next round?"

Kierra shrugs, "Dunno, it may be just tracker-jackers for all we know."

"I don't think so, but those will probably be in there too. Those things weren't used in the last two Games because they were already over quickly. Only half the tributes had to die. This time, only one can survive," I say.

"Thanks for the reminder..."

"Oh, cheer up! You have a chance of winning still! And if you do, everyone in your District will be happy."

"I guess..."

"Alright, well if you don't feel in the mood for any more questions, I'll move on to Blake," I offer.

Kierra nods, "Yeah, I'm done."

"Blake! I heard you got a new alliance," I gesture towards Kierra.

"Yes...Flora too."

I smile. I don't think he has told Kierra that he likes her yet, judging by the way he's acting right now.

"Well, I assume that means your old alliance has split up?"

He nods, "Yeah. Dean went to Kaya, Nathan went to Luke's alliance, and Vance is with his sister, Cally. I thought they would stay together. I was the only one that was supposed to leave the alliance...I wonder what changed their minds."

I shrug, "Who knows. So do you and your allies already have plans for the Games?"

"We're working on it, but we think we have an idea."

"I can't believe you guys just got out of one arena, just to go into another three days later," I comment.

"Well, at least the girls got to have a long wait. It's us boys who go from one arena to the next in such a short time. The girls had almost a month to wait," Blake corrects.

"True. So how did you feel that you didn't run into any tributes in round two?"

"Pretty good, but I was always on my guard. You never know when someone could pop up. Even Eric came by our campsite one day, but he just kept walking like he didn't see us."

"I know. Why didn't any of you attack him then?"

"I don't know. I suppose we all didn't want to risk any of our lives. We all knew how good Eric was at fighting. He would've killed at least one of us if we gave him the chance," Blake replies.

Buzz!!!

I stand up, "Thank you for coming to talk with me one last time before the Games," I turn to the crowd, "Please give a round of applause for the six tributes!"

The people shout each tribute's name and cheer for them as they exit the stage.

"One interview down, three more to go! Interview two will be starting momentarily. Please stay seated everyone!"
