The Bloodbath

Brenda Long's P.O.V. (D7)

I sigh as I hear the tube slide shut, enclosing me inside with my metal disk.

I jump when the ground beneath me starts to move slowly upwards. My heart starts to pound rapidly against my rib age. I start to feel panicked and anxious.

I can't do this. What if it's a water arena? I can't swim!

I jump again when the rising stops.

I'm in the arena. I guess everyone else at this point would be trying to figure out where everything is.

I can't do anything but stand there and listen.

I hear someone sniffle to my right, and another person to my left mumble something. I can hear a lot of other sounds the other tributes are making. This helps me to figure out the general area of the cornucopia because the pedestals are in a circle around it.

I review the plan our alliance made last night at the tribute feast.

I'm supposed to hide at the closest place and Sage and Delinia will get what we need in the cornucopia. I'm not sure what Hayley is planning to do.

I hear a rustle behind me, indicating a bush. The sound must've been made by a bird or something.

"Welcome tributes, to the first Games this year. You have sixty seconds. Let the first installment of the one hundred and twenty-fifth annual Hunger Games begin!"

A computerized voice starts to count down from sixty.

Just go for the bush once the gong sounds, Brenda. Just go for the bush. They'll come and get me. They won't abandon me.

I wonder what arena this is anyways. I'm wearing clothes that could be worn in cooler weather, so I assume something that has to do with snow. But I don't smell snow, I smell grass. The wind is cold though.

My breathing becomes rapid, each breath shorter than the last. This isn't the place for a blind person.

GONG!

My mind goes into panic mode. All around me, people are jumping off their pedestals and running everywhere, mostly towards the cornucopia.

Hopefully no one saw me, but I ran over to the bush and dove behind it, hoping that I wasn't facing the cornucopia...

Then the screams start.

The Bloodbath has begun.

Jean Lawren's P.O.V. (D1)

I dive from my pedestal and sprint for the closest weapon, a glimmering sword with my name written all over it.

I smile, but change to a hard glare when Hayley Summers reaches for it.

"Oh, no you don't," I hiss as I slam into her, pushing her onto the ground.

She yells when she falls and drops the sword. I snatch it up and without a second thought, bury it into her chest.

She screams as I pull it back out and leave her laying on the grass, which is quickly turning red from her blood.

I turn around to see who else is going for the cornucopia. Amira Senn is running for a pack that is between the cornucopia and her pedestal. I grin and sprint towards her, sword raised.

Her eyes widen as she spots me and she snatches the pack and, as quick as her legs will carry her, starts to run away from the cornucopia.

"You're not going anywhere!"

I grab a small knife from the ground as I run past and fling it at her.

It implants itself in her calf and she screams. She falls to the ground, clutching her leg.

I stand before her, and raise my sword above my head.

She squeezes her eyes shut, preparing for the worst.

Suddenly I hear a whizzing sound and I instinctively move out of the way. A spear flys right past me and wedges itself in Amira's stomach.

I turn to see Flora standing there with her jaw dropped.

I grin, "Congratulations. You just killed your ally."

She grabs another spear and tosses it at me angrily, "I wasn't aiming for her!" she screams.

I easily dodge it again and run right towards her.

Cally Blue's P.O.V. (D5)

I snatch a stack of throwing knives and a dagger from the cornucopia. I grab another dagger and toss it to Sara.

She catches it and slings a pack over her shoulder, "What now?"

"Let's get out of here," I say, grabbing a pack for myself.

We run out of the cornucopia and around the corner.

Suddenly I bump into someone. It's Flora Cottonweed.

She has a cut on her forehead and arm. She frantically shakes her head and scrambles to her feet. When she does so, she immediately runs away.

Sara and I look at each other in confusion but then we see Jean running towards us.

"Run!" Sara shouts, pushing me away.

We sprint out of the Bloodbath and towards the mountains.

Delinia Spokes's P.O.V. (D4)

I sling a pack over my shoulder and reach for a trident leaning against the cornucopia. Another hand reaches out to grab it at the same time.

Sapphire.

I get to it first and point it at her. She only glares at me and runs in the other direction.

I look around for what else our alliance will need. A bow lays on the grass near me, with a quiver full of arrows next to it. Brenda shoots a bow I think.

I bend down and pick them up and sprint to Sage, who is waiting for me near the pedestals.

"Where's Brenda?" she asks.

"I'm here!" Brenda shouts from behind a nearby bush.

"Ok, let's go!" I shout, but Sage stops me.

"Where's Hayley?"

I sigh, "Jean got her..."

Sage's eyes widened in disbelief. I grabbed her arm and pulled her and Brenda towards the mountains.
