Day Two (Morning)
Flora Cottonweed's P.O.V. (D9)
I open up our packs and start to sort everything out. I put all the food in my pack, all the knives, ropes and water bottles in Blake's pack, and then all the blankets and sleeping bags go in Kierra's pack.
When I finish, I look over to the river, where Kierra and Blake are talking to each other. They went to go get water, but seem to have gotten locked in a conversation. I stand up and shout over to them, "Hey, you two, I hope you've found some water, because we should get moving!"
"We're coming!" Blake calls back.
I see them stand up and start carrying two filled water bottles over to me. They are both smiling and keep looking at each other. I raise an eyebrow at them and roll my eyes. I guess they finally told each other how they feel about one another. I remember Blake saying that he has a crush on Kierra at his interview. I guess she has always liked him too, judging by the way they are looking at each other.
"So...is there something you guys wanna tell me?" I ask with a playful smile on my face.
"No, not at all," Blake says innocently, "I thought we were gonna get moving."
Kierra nods in agreement, "Hurry up, Flora, we don't have all day."
I roll my eyes again as thy both grab their packs and start walking away. I snatch mine and start following them, still smiling.
Liam Fledger's P.O.V. (D2)
Brendan and I stand by each other, watching Jean practice throwing knives. She's not too bad, but every time she misses her target, she gets angry.
She throws another knife and we watch it fly past the tree she was aiming for. She screams in frustration and throws the rest of the knives harshly at the ground.
"Ugh! I'm so done with this! This is why I fight with swords!"
I speak up, "Well, if it makes you feel any better, you're better at throwing knives than I am. And I even went to the Academy."
"You're just saying that to make me feel better!" she shouts.
I raise my hands, "No, no, it's the truth."
Before she can say another word, Clarice comes over, holding her spear and says, "I know what will make you feel better, Jean. How about we go on a hunt? The islands came back down this morning, so the bridges are able to be crossed now. These two can stay here to guard the horn." She gestures to Brendan and I.
She sighs, "Sounds good." She turns to us, "Don't let anyone take anything. We'll be back."
I toss Jean a sword and start walking to the cornucopia with Brendan. Soon, Jean and Clarice disappear in the ring of trees, leaving us alone.
Brendan sits at the mouth of the horn, polishing a sword. I sit down beside him, looking at my boots. They are very strange boots. They are silver and have two buttons on each boot. Brendan is wearing the same pair. I look at the buttons more closely. I wonder if they are just there for decoration, or if they actually have a purpose.
Out of curiosity, I lean over and press the red button on my right boot. To my great surprise, my right leg felt suddenly lighter and it started to float!
I nudge Brendan with my elbow, keeping my eyes on my foot, "Brendan, look!"
He looks up, but doesn't look as surprised as I am, "What?" he says.
I point at my leg, "Look, my leg is floating!"
He snorts, "Nice one, Liam, you're obviously just lifting your leg up."
"No, watch this," I lean over and press the red button on my left boot as well. It immediately feels lighter, and starts to rise. Actually, my whole body starts to rise. A second later, I'm hovering in the air, a foot over where I was sitting. Brendan stares at me in amazement.
"How did you do that?"
"I pressed the red buttons on both my boots," I explain.
"How do you get back down?"
I look at the boots again and press the green buttons on each one. A moment later, I crash back to the ground, like a magnet was pulling me back.
"That's so cool! Try it, Brendan!" I say as I press the red buttons on his boots.
He immediately starts rising slowly in the air. I reach up and press the green buttons before he gets too high. He also crashes back to the ground.
"That's so insane!" he says excitedly, "I can't wait to tell Jean and Clarice."
"Yeah!"
Delinia Spokes's P.O.V. (D4)
"Run!" Tai suddenly bursts into the clearing.
Grace and I stand up with questioning looks on our faces, "Tai, what's wrong?" I ask.
He snatches our packs and throws them at us. Then he grabs my trident and Grace's axe and shoves them into our hands, "Come on, we gotta go!"
He starts to pull me away from our campsite.
"Tai, what is it?" Grace asks.
"Clarice and Jean are headed right for us! Come on!" he replies.
Just then, Clarice and Jean also burst through the bushes and spot us immediately. All three of us turn and sprint as fast as we can in the opposite direction. I can hear Clarice and Jean's footsteps close behind us.
I look at Grace, who is ahead of us, and then at Tai, who is running behind me. "Should we fight them?" I suggest. I can hear my voice getting tired from the running and my breaths are short.
Suddenly, Tai shouts, "Split up!"
Without question, I follow Grace as she makes a tight turn to the left. I look over my shoulder to see Clarice tell Jean to follow us. Clarice follows Tai as he turns to the right. I hope he knows what he's doing.
Tai Hosman's P.O.V. (D4)
I sprint as fast as I can, trying to get away from Clarice. Every time I look over my shoulder, however, she appears to be getting closer. I look down at my feet and force them to move faster. Clarice continues the chase, until it comes to an abrupt end.
I stop running just in time to not fall over the edge of the island. I cause some pebbles to fall over the side as I stop. I watch them fall into the endless sky. I teeter on the edge a moment, but use my arms to balance myself.
Clarice laughs evilly behind me. I turn around quickly and take a step away from the ledge. Clarice leans against a tree, holding her spear in one hand, with her other hand resting on the handle of her dagger.
"Where you gonna go now?" she says smugly as she takes a step closer.
I take a step back as she comes closer, but I am warned not to go back any farther when I hear more pebbles fall over the side.
I hold my trident tightly and prepare to fight. Clarice tosses her spear aside and pulls out her dagger.
"Alright, I guess we're fighting now. Prepare to lose," Clarice smiles.
She lunges forward and strikes her dagger at the same time. I step aside and let her almost throw herself over the ledge. She growls and slashes at me again. I hold up my trident and block the attack, then I slam the handle of the trident into her side. She grunts and takes a step back, holding her side.
She looks up angrily at me, then throws herself towards me. She slams into me, but I manage to grab her hand that's holding the dagger as we tumble onto the ground.
I finally pry it from her hand, but before I can do anything with it, she slaps it out of my grasp. It lands on the grass a few feet away. I look around for my trident. It also lays in the grass a few meters away.
I push Clarice off me and start to crawl for the trident. Her hand latches around my ankle and twists it. I roll onto my back and kick her face. She releases my foot and clutches her bleeding nose.
I take this as my chance to get my weapon. I turn and reach for the trident. It's so close. I draw my hand away when Clarice's boot digs into my side. She grabs the back of my jacket and lifts me up. Then, with an incredible force, throws me against a tree.
The air gets knocked out of my lungs and I collapse to the ground, coughing and gasping for air.
I watch Clarice bend over and fetch my trident. She then walks over to the edge and tosses it over the ledge.
I struggle to my feet, using the tree as support. Clarice turns back to me, holding up her dagger, "I'll try to make this quick."
She runs forward and swings the blade at my neck, but I duck to the ground. My hands find a sizable rock and I fling it at her. It strikes her hand and she drops the dagger as blood starts to splurt from an opening in her hand.
I dive for the dagger. As soon as it's in my hand, I slice it at Clarice's right boot. It cuts through a small panel of buttons on the side. There is a zapping sound when I do so, as if I was cutting off the power to something. Sparks also fly off the buttons.
She screams angrily and punches me on the cheek. I blink a few times to regain my sight. When I can see clearly again, Clarice is on top of me, holding the dagger above her head.
I move my head to the side as she brings the dagger down. The blade slices through the tip of my right ear and buries itself in the ground beside my head.
Now it's my turn to strike. I drive my fist into Clarice's chin, but it only makes her angrier.
I glance at the edge, less than a foot away, then back at Clarice. She pulls the dagger from the dirt and bashes the handle against my temple, causing my head to feel as if it just exploded.
Everything around me starts to turn blurry rapidly. I close my one eye because the blood from my head is starting to pour into it.
If I don't act quickly, I will be dead in the next few seconds. With the rest of the strength I can muster, I shove Clarice off my stomach, causing her to stumble backwards, towards the edge. She topples on the ledge until I lift my leg and give her one final shove to send her flying over the side.
BOOM!
That is the last thing I remember hearing before the darkness takes over...
