Day Three (Morning)

Kierra Garten's P.O.V. (D3)

I nudge Flora gently, "Wake up, Flora."

She opens her eyes and yawns. Then she sits up and reaches for her pack. I pick it up and hand it to her.

"Thanks," she mutters.

"Yep," I say, also quietly.

We haven't really said much to each other since yesterday, when she came back from the cornucopia. She had only managed to get an extra pack.

I felt pretty bad for her, but I also already feel the same way as she does because my best friend died too.

I sigh, "Do you wanna talk about anything? Because I could use some friendly conversation at the moment."

She doesn't look up to me, but she says, "What do you want me to say? Sorry?"

"What are you saying sorry for?"

"You know why. Because I killed your best friend, and I never really apologized for it because I just kept telling myself that it wasn't really my fault."

I sit next to her, "You did apologize, remember?"

She shakes her head, "I did, to you, but it didn't feel like enough to me."

"Well, it was good enough for me, and I forgave you, so stop worrying about it so much."

"That's not the only thing I need to be upset about anymore. Now my best friend is dead, and it's your fault!" She almost shouts at me.

My eyes widen in shock, "How is that my fault?"

"Because, if you would have just come with us to the cornucopia yesterday, she would probably still be here!"

I blink at her and don't say a thing. I can't say anything, because she's right.

"I-you're right," I whisper, starting to feel my eyes water, "I-I'm so so sorry."

Somehow it didn't feel like what I said was enough to fix the issue.

Flora wipes her eyes and gives a little smile, "I guess we're both in the same boat."

"Yeah," I say quietly, still thinking of what a horrible person I am, "I should've just gone with you guys. I should never have let you go alone. I don't even know why I stayed. Maybe I was scared, or thought you were crazy."

"Stop blaming yourself," Flora says, putting a hand on my shoulder, "We need to get over this, together. We aren't going to get very far if we just keep blaming ourselves for what happened. We need to forget the past, no matter how hard it may be, and move on."

"I never knew you could be so inspiring."

Flora makes a little giggle, "Neither did I. But I guess we can all be different when the time comes."

I smile, "Maybe we can just try forgetting this, and start a new friendship."

Sara Higgins's P.O.V. (D5)

I take a bite of a juicy red apple, as I throw one just like it to Cally. She catches it and takes a huge bite from it.

"Wow! Juicy," she comments.

"They are," I agree.

"So, I assume we just try to avoid everyone today? There's only one more person that has to die and it's not gonna be me," Cally says.

"Yeah, maybe we can do some hunting for fun. Or we can find something else fun to do."

"Ok. How about we play something?"

I raise an eyebrow, "Like what?"

She shrugs, "I dunno... How about eye spy?"

I laugh, "Really? You couldn't think of anything other than that?"

"Well, I don't see you making any suggestions," she points out.

"Point taken. Fine, let's play. You go first, and please don't do green. We're in a forest."

She laughs, "Ok. I spy, with my little eye, something...blue."

"The sky."

"Nope."

"The spring."

"Nope."

"I give up."

Cally chuckles, "Already?"

"Yeah, just tell me."

"Fine. You might think it's unfair, but it's my last name," she replies.

"What? Cally Blue, that isn't how you play eye spy. Don't you know the object needs to be something you can see?"

She laughs, "Yeah I know. I was just messing with you. Ok I'll go again. I spy with my little eye, something...shiny."

"What?" I look around and suddenly see a glint of steel.

I gasp, and whisper, "Cally, drop to the ground."

Without questioning, she flattens herself against the forest floor, and I do the same. Lucky for us, there is a thick patch of ferns surrounding us, which gives us a pretty good cover.

Whoever it was, walked past us without noticing our position.

I wait until the footsteps are completely gone before I take the risk of sitting up.

"She's gone."

"If it was a she," Cally says.

"Hello? It's a Games of all girls, remember?" I remind her.

She smacks her forehead, "Sorry, I'm an idiot."

Brenda Long's P.O.V. (D7)

"I think some of us should go a little farther down the mountain," Delinia suggests, "Just to see if anyone is coming. Or if any tributes are nearby."

"Ok, bring Brenda with you, just in case," Sage says.

I grab my bow and follow the sound of Delinia's footsteps.

"Watch your step here," Delinia says.

"Ok."

I jump over a big rock in my path and continue to follow Delinia.

After awhile of walking she asks, "So, how did you learn to use a bow?"

I shrug, "I guess I've always been able to. It's pretty simple. I just have to listen for where I want to shoot and fire."

I hear her stop and take something from the ground.

"Can you shoot this rock when it lands?"

I smile, "Try me."

I hear her arm swing back and send the rock hurtling through the air. I reach back and pull an arrow from my quiver and notch it into the string of my bow. Then I listen.

CLUNK!

I turn as quick as a flash to the direction of the sound and fire. I second later, Delinia gasps, probably from surprise that I was able to hit it.

"Did I get it?"

"Yeah! Dead center! There's a clear mark on it. You're not half bad."

"Good," I smile.
