Day Seven (Afternoon Part 2)
Tai Hosman's P.O.V. (D4)
She's gone. She's gone. She's gone. I can't believe my Delinia is gone. Everything I have lived for, volunteered for, it's gone. Why did I agree to go to the feast in the first place? She would still be alive right now if we didn't go. How could I be so clueless?
I throw myself on the ground, not caring about what happens next. How did this go so wrong? She wasn't supposed to die before I did. I was supposed to help her win. There's only one thing I can do now. I have to win, for Delinia. So I can show that I didn't volunteer for nothing. She wouldn't want me to give up. I volunteered to save her, but I failed. I can't let that pull me down now too.
I slowly sit up and gather myself together. Then I find my trident and start walking again. I will find Mason, and I will make him pay for killing Delinia. He might have got away from me at the feast, but I'll make sure that doesn't happen again. Somebody won't make it out of the fight alive, and that's not gonna be me. Look out, Mason, I'm coming for you.
Brenda Long's P.O.V. (D7)
"Mason, is that you?" I ask when my ears pick up somebody moving towards me.
"Yeah," he replies. His footsteps sound a little different. He's putting more wait on one leg.
"Are you okay?" I ask when he gets closer.
"Don't worry about it," he says, "It's nothing."
I hear him sit down on the grass beside me. I sit down too. Then I can hear him unzipping something.
"What are you doing?"
"I got a whole bag of stuff from the feast. I told you I wouldn't leave there empty-handed," he replies. After fumbling around a bit, I hear him pull something out of the bag and open it, "Here it is."
"Did you get the package?"
"Just hold on for one second," he says, "I need to figure out how this works."
"How what works?"
"Geez! Quit asking questions already," he teases, "You haven't said anything to me since I got back that wasn't a question."
"Being blind isn't easy, Mason. I have to ask questions in order to know what's happening."
"Well, I guess that means there will be no more questions," Mason says.
I frown in confusion at what he just said. I hear him press a button. The next thing I know, he's putting something that's made of cool metal on my face. Suddenly, to my greatest surprise, I can see everything! It's so incredible. I gasp and put my hands over my mouth in shock. Everything comes to me in a clear and focused image. I can see the lush, green grass and trees, the blue sky and light-green clouds, and Mason. He has messy, dark brown hair that covers his forehead, bright blue eyes, and a huge smile. I look at my own hands and feet and clothes. Everything feels so different. I feel more alive and better.
"Is this-is this real?" I ask in awe as I continue looking around at things. Things that I haven't seen since I was six.
Mason nods, "Very real! How do you like them?"
I feel the object over my eyes, "What is this?"
"They're glasses. They must've cost a fortune to make. The Capitol made them specially for you," Mason replies.
"This is the best gift I could ever ask for!" I almost shout from excitement. I throw my arms around Mason and squeeze as hard as I can.
"Okay," Mason wheezes, patting my back lightly, "You can let go now!"
I let go and he coughs. I laugh a little, "Sorry, I'm just so happy."
"I can tell..."
I look at the bag he brought back. It's overflowing with different foods and some weapons and stuff. Then I notice something red on the grass. I follow the trail of red with my eyes until it stops at Mason's leg. His pants are torn in an area above his knee and it's covered in the red stuff.
"Mason," I point to his leg, "What is the red stuff coming out of your leg?"
"You mean blood?" he answers.
"Oh..." I say, frowning, "I didn't know it was red..."
"Well it is," he replies as he starts to look through the bag again.
I decide not to ask him what he's looking for, because I know that if I do, he'll just have something stupid to say back to me for asking another question. Finally, he finds what he's looking for. It looks like a roll of gauze. He starts to wrap it tightly around his leg.
"How'd that happen?" I say, pointing to his leg. He rolls his eyes, but he doesn't stop smiling. Oops, that was another question.
"It was Nathan," he replies, "He probably had a more fatal aim before Liam tripped him. I wonder why Liam did that anyways."
"I'm just glad he didn't kill you," I say with a sigh, "So, who died at the feast anyways?"
I don't care anymore if he gets annoyed at all of my questions. I want answers.
"Just Delinia."
"Oh...and who killed her?"
Mason pauses a moment before answering, "I did."
Brendan Hankson's P.O.V. (D2)
Once Liam and I finish moving all of the food into the cornucopia, the table goes back into the ground. I wonder what we will do now. Yesterday, we were talking about throwing all of the supplies over the side of the island to keep tributes away, but I don't think that's necessary. It took a feast to get just a few of the tributes to come. I don't even think Delinia and Tai came for anything but to kill some tributes. We all know how that worked out for them...
We let Nathan go after the feast. I didn't want to kill him after Liam had practically knocked him out. That just wouldn't be fair. It's not like Nathan killed Liam after he had practically knocked him out. Let's just say that we're all even now. Next time we meet, he won't get a second chance.
Liam is sleeping at the back of the horn, probably trying to get rid of that headache he got earlier. I told him that I would be alright with watching the cornucopia while he takes a nap, but that means he has to take first watch tonight. I won't even bother waking him up for the Death Toll. We both know that only one person died today, and that was Delinia.
I sigh and walk to the outside of the horn. It's so weird how things have changed. Back at home, Liam and I were constantly practicing for the Games, and always hanging out. And yet, we both wanted to volunteer for the Games. Then, we didn't care if we were the last two in the arena. We were willing to kill each other without hesitation if it came down to it. But now, I don't ever think I could do that. We should've volunteered on different years, but no, we were both too excited. We thought it would be fun to be in the Games at the same time. I remember us even fighting for who can shout out that they volunteer first. I won, of course. Getting back to the point, I will never kill Liam, and I'm sure he won't kill me either. I feel that he has changed a bit too. Hopefully, just one of us can make it out. Now that the amount of tributes is stretching thin, I'm starting to get anxious for what will happen next. Who will win?
~~~~~~~~
Hey, sorry for the wait, but for some reason I couldn't get around to finishing this chapter. I had most of it written the day after the last chapter was written, but I didn't finish it until now. Anyways, I'd like to hear your thoughts on which tributes you would like to be the last THREE tributes for the end battle! Super excited. Also, you can still say who you want to win, even though the book is finished. I like to see your opinions! I hope you're enjoying the book and don't forget to click that star in the corner. The more votes, the higher chance of other people finding my book. (I'm sure that's how that works anyways)
