Day Seven (Afternoon)
Nathan Brooke's P.O.V. (D9)
I look at the sun. It's a little past the highest point in the sky. That means it is now the afternoon. Now the question is...when in the afternoon does the feast actually start? Gladius left out the exact time. He just said 'this afternoon'.
"So, am I going or are you going?" Cally asks.
"I'll go," I say, standing up, "You stay here with Vance."
"You don't have to go, you know," Cally suggests, "We have a good amount of supplies already."
"Actually, I checked last night and we are really low on food," I correct.
Cally looks confused, "What? I can't believe it all went so fast!"
I shrug, "Well it did, so now I have to get some more. The feast is the perfect place for that."
"Okay."
"So, I guess I'll be going. For all we know, the feast has already started."
"Okay, go," Cally says as I turn and start to walk away, "And Nathan, be careful!"
Delinia Spokes's P.O.V. (D4)
Tai and I creep towards the cornucopia behind a row of bushes. We stop and wait when we reach a close enough bush. The feast hasn't started just yet, but it is the afternoon, so it will start soon, I'm sure.
Liam and Brendan are sitting in the grass outside of the horn with their weapons, chatting about whatnot. I almost want to just go out there and attack them now, but they will probably be expecting it.
"So," Tai whispers, "Do we go right in the minute the feast starts, or do we wait?"
I smile, "Wait for some more tributes, that way Liam and Brendan are distracted. I'm not in the mood to fight them. But maybe we can take out some of the others."
"Good idea," Tai nods, "I'll wait for your signal."
Just then, a section of the ground opens up in front of Liam and Brendan. Then a long table starts to rise to the surface. It's adorned with all kinds of foods and objects, like weapons. Then I see the small package that has the number seven neatly printed on it.
I lean over to Tai, "Go for the package."
When the table stops rising, Liam and Brendan stand up with their weapons in their hands. Liam has a huge smile on his face when he exclaims, "For me? Brendan, you shouldn't have!"
Suddenly, Nathan Brooke bursts through the bushes on the other side of the clearing. Then Mason Paits appears in the clearing several meters away from our position.
"Now!" I nod before dashing into the clearing.
Mason Paits's P.O.V. (D7)
I leap into the clearing the moment Nathan runs out. I have my eyes locked on the small, green package with my District number on it. I'm not leaving the feast without it. I start to run for it, but then I hear some rustling behind me. I turn around to see Delinia, followed by Tai, burst through some bushes, and start running for the table.
I sprint after them once I see what they're going for. They want to take the package. I don't know why, though.
Tai runs past the table, catching the package as he does so. I chase after him.
"No!" I shout as I pull out my axe.
"Tai, throw it here!" Delinia shouts from across the clearing. Tai smiles and flings it over to her.
Delinia catches it and starts to run the other way, laughing. Every time I get close to one of them, they pass it back to the other person. They want to play games? Alright, let's play.
Delinia throws it over to Tai when I start chasing her. But when he catches it, I keep going after Delinia. I hold up my axe as I catch up with her.
"Del, look out!" Tai shouts, but it's too late. The axe has already left my hand and it's spinning through the air.
Delinia stops and turns around. Her eyes widen when she sees the axe flying at her. She doesn't react quick enough, and the blade of my axe penetrates her stomach. She coughs up a mouthful of blood and crumples to her knees, gasping.
"No!" Tai yells, less than a meter behind me.
I start to turn around, but he tackles me over before I do. I land face first in the grass with Tai on top of me. There isn't much I can do in the position I'm in. He has my hands pinned beneath his knees at my sides. He leans forward and whispers in my ear, "You're going to regret what you just did."
I jerk my head back, hitting his face with the back of my head. He holds his nose, loosening his knees a bit. I can now roll over at least. When I do, I send a punch at his face. Then I punch him in the stomach. He rolls to the side, allowing me to get up.
I run over to Delinia while Tai is still on the grass. Delinia is now laying on her back. Her breathing his labored. I put my hand around the handle of my axe in her gut, and I tug it out. She groans as start to walk away. I find the package where Tai had dropped it when I hit Delinia.
BOOM!
Delinia's dead. Tai is screaming behind me and is trying to keep her awake, but she's already gone.
I run back to the table and start to throw food into a bag. Liam is fighting Nathan at the other end of the table. Clearly, Liam has it under control, since he's also eating things while he's fighting. Brendan is going after Tai. I continue to shovel anything I can into the bag.
Nathan grabs a fighting staff from the table and suddenly whacks it brutally over Liam's head. Oof, Liam didn't see that coming, I bet. Liam falls over, holding his head. Nathan notches an arrow into his bowstring. Now I start to run from the feast. That's when I hear the whizzing.
Liam Fledger's P.O.V. (D2)
I roll on the ground as my head throbs painfully. It hurts so bad. I see Nathan put an arrow on his bowstring and aim it for the retreating Mason. I pull his leg out from under him as he releases the arrow. It whizzes through the air towards Mason. Then it hits his leg, a little higher than his left knee. The arrow just grazed him, but it still left a deep gash. He falls over and checks to see how bad his leg is, then he gets back up and limps away.
Meanwhile, Nathan stumbles over me and falls on his back. I stand up, still holding my head with one hand. I snatch up a sword from the table with my other hand. When I turn around to point it at Nathan, he's gone. I see him running to the tree line, but I don't follow him. Instead, I just take a dinner roll from a basket on the table and take a bite of it. It's really good, so a grab a few more and sit against the cornucopia, waiting for Brendan.
I almost choke on my roll when Nathan sprints back into the clearing. Brendan appears behind him, chasing him with his sword. I guess he lost Tai. It's actually kinda funny to watch them. They run around the clearing for awhile, throwing things at each other, while I sit here, eating my dinner rolls.
Brendan stoops down and grabs a rock as he's running. Then he flings it at Nathan. It hits Nathan's shoulder. Nathan takes off his jacket and tosses it back at Brendan. It hits Brendan in the face and he struggles to get it off, dropping his sword.
"Nice shot, Nate!" I cheer, clapping a few times. I'm not really worried about the fight, because I know Brendan will probably win anyways. That is, unless it takes him all day to get that jacket off his face.
Nathan starts to run for the tree line again. Brendan finally untangles the jacket and tosses it on the ground. I point to Nathan as I take another bite of a roll. Brendan growls in annoyance and picks up his sword. Then he chases Nathan into the trees. Soon, they reappear in the clearing, Nathan, now with a loaded bow. That might be a cause for concern, saying as how Brendan is in a perfect range to get hit. I sigh. I guess it's time for me to intervene. I grab my sword and run for Nathan when he turns around to take a shot.
"Oi!" I shout, attracting his attention.
He turns his head and I use the handle of my sword to hit his head with. He crumples to the floor and holds his head. I rest the blade of my sword on my shoulder like one would do with a baseball bat, a triumphant smile on my face.
"There, have a taste of your own medicine!" I say, then I rub my own head where he had hit it before with the fighting staff.
Brendan comes up to us, panting from all the running, "What'd you have to go and do that for?! I had it under control."
I frown at his gratitude, "I take that as a thank you."
Brendan sighs, "So now what do we do with him? I'm not gonna kill him now that you've stunned him."
I shrug, "Then don't. Just let him go." I turn and gesture for him to follow, "Now come, we must feast."
