Day Five (Afternoon)

Liam Fledger's P.O.V. (D2)

I fly over the side of the railing as Jarus kicks my chest. My arm lashes out just in time to catch hold of the floor of the bridge. I don't think Jarus noticed me catch on.

"Liam!" I hear Brendan yell. Ok, I guess he doesn't know I caught on either.

"Your turn," Jarus says. I hear his footsteps on the bridge and I can see his shadow through the cracks between the boards. He approaches Brendan's shadow. Brendan inches away.

I swing my other hand up to catch hold of the bridge as well, to help balance out my weight. I think about using my gravity boots to help lift me back onto the bridge, but what if I accidentally let go? I'll fly off into nowhere. I'm not risking it. Instead, I use all my strength to lift myself high enough to reach the railing. Then I strain to shift all my weight onto one arm while I reach up for the railing with my other hand. I wrap my fingers around the metal cable, and reach my other hand up. Then I haul myself back over the cable, and flop onto the bridge, panting.

Jarus has his back turned to me as he walks closer to Brendan. Brendan climbs to his feet and points his sword at Jarus. Then Jarus knocks his sword aside with one of his swords and lunges his other sword at his neck. Brendan dodges to the side.

I reach for my sword that I dropped on the bridge when I fell. When I have it in my hand, I stand up and walk quietly down to Jarus, being careful to make no sounds.

Jarus elbows Brendan in the jaw and then trips him with his foot. By the time I am directly behind him, he is swinging his swords back to strike.

I step forward and tap Jarus on the shoulder. He pauses and turns around. I smile at him as his eyes go wide, "Miss me?"

Then I jab my sword into his stomach. The point of my sword pokes through his back, dripping with blood. He stares at me with shocked eyes as I pull the sword back out. He gasps and falls down on his hands and knees. The metal of the bridge beneath him starts to grow a puddle of blood. Some of it drains through the cracks. Then he drops limply onto the hard metal.

BOOM!

"You alright?" I ask Brendan after nudging Jarus with my boot.

He nods as he stands back up, rubbing his knee, "Yeah, just a few bruises."

"When you're ready to go, we'll go back to the cornucopia and take care of Iona too."

"Okay."

Cally Blue's P.O.V. (D5)

"Come on, Cally, we're almost there," Vance calls quietly.

I catch up with him and we continue walking together to the cornucopia. We saw Jarus, Brendan and Liam leave it earlier, so that means only Iona is there. We figured we could both take her out and get all the supplies we want from the cornucopia.

Suddenly, a canon goes off in the direction of the bridge to the forest island. I guess the Careers found someone.

I look at where Vance was standing, but he isn't there. I find him already over by the cornucopia, flattened against the wall, gesturing for me to come over too. I quickly take a position beside him. Then he starts to move towards the entrance. Someone is shuffling around inside. Vance peeps inside, then looks back at me. Then he puts one finger up, saying there is just one tribute in there. Now he nods towards the entrance and I step in. I hear Vance notch an arrow into his bowstring.

When I enter the horn, I draw out my dagger. Iona is sitting at the back of the horn, rummaging through an open bin. I take a step closer and she stops what she's doing. Then she turns around sharply, meeting my gaze. My eyes go wide as she stands up and starts to come at me.

A feeling surges through me that we have made a terrible mistake by coming here. Iona is a much better fighter than both Vance and myself combined. Even though she has a messed up shoulder, I still feel like I've already lost. I crouch down on the ground, shielding my head with my hands and squinting my eyes shut.

Then I hear the twang of Vance's bow, and the whizzing of an arrow. When the whizzing ends, there is a thud and a canon goes off.

BOOM!

I open my eyes and take my hands off my head. Iona lays dead on the ground before me, leaking blood from her forehead, where an arrow is wedged. Vance is standing behind me, a shocked expression on his face. Iona was the first person Vance has ever killed with his bow, and his second kill in this Games.

I stand up and walk over to him, looking around, "Come on, Vance, the others might come back soon."

"Right," he nods, still looking at Iona, "Let's just get what we want and get out of here."

Nathan Brooke's P.O.V. (D9)

I sprint as fast as I can. I feel like I won't ever be able to stop. There are tributes everywhere on this island. They could be following me now for all I know. The worst part is, I don't have an ally anymore. Not after Mason killed Jason. So anyways, I feel like if I stop, someone will find me right away. I also don't know if I should keep running. I could run into some tributes myself.

I slow to a jog, then I collapse. I lay on the ground in a patch of ferns, panting and sweating. I can't run anymore, even if I wanted to. I don't know what to do or where to go. It would be better if Jason were here. He would know what to do.

I can't ask anyone else to be my allies at this point in the Games. Nobody will accept me since there are already less tributes. Most of the bigger alliances will be splitting up soon anyways.

I rub my hand over my face, trying to calm myself down a bit, but I can't.

Maybe the only thing that is left for me to do is die. I decide that there is nowhere left to go, so I just lie here, and wait.
