~8~
The biting cold air hit Patton suddenly that morning in a rush as his blanket was stolen from him, leading to a startling awakening. He sat up quickly in his bed, gasping and patting his bedside table for his glasses frantically. As he was jamming the frames onto his face the laughter of Roman rang through the room, instantly making Patton relax as his eyes focused on his friend standing beside of him with his blankets in hand.
"Roman!" Patton shouted, hand resting over his heart. "You scared me!"
"Sorry Pat," Roman said through his laughter, setting the blankets back down on Patton's bed. "But look! There's so much snow outside this morning!"
Patton looked as he gestured towards the window, peering outside and confirming that the snow had not stopped falling the previous night. The powdery white had covered everything outside, the ground, cars, rooftops of houses. It was mostly untouched as when Patton checked the clock it was far too early for anyone to be up on a Saturday, leaving it perfectly fluffy looking. It was amazing.
"We said if it kept snowing then we'd go sledding! And well, it's perfect to go out in right now! So, I had to come and get you out of bed." Roman explained, rocking back and forth on his heels. He simply couldn't sit still waiting for Patton's response, too excited by the beautiful view outside and the fun that awaited them. "Won't you join me, Pat? Please?"
Roman folded his hands under his chin, pouting at Patton with wide eyes. Patton laughed at his friends antics, sliding his legs over the side of the bed and waving his away. "Okay, okay. Go wait for me, I've gotta put on warm clothes."
Roman grinned and punched the air, racing out of the room to let Patton get ready as Patton grinned behind him, shaking his head as he got out of bed. It was a good thing Patton was a morning person.

Soon enough the two were outside with the sleds Patton owned, standing at the bottom of the hill together. Roman turned to Patton with a mischievous grin and Patton already knew what he was thinking. "Wanna see who can go down the most times?"
Patton was already racing up the hill as he gave an affirmative response over his shoulder, laughing as Roman made a noise of shock and offense, chasing quickly after him. Patton was the first to go down the hill, but Roman was fast behind him. He did his best to race faster than Patton up the hill every time they went down, although it was very hard to run uphill on snow. They raced up and down and up and down over and over again until finally Patton and Roman both got to the top again and instead of getting on their sleds collapsed onto their backs in the snow, blowing out deep cloudy breaths.
"Why is that so tiring?" Patron asked after he had caught his breath a bit, turning his head to meet Roman's eyes. Roman did the same thing, shrugging his shoulders.
"I dunno. Who won though?"
"We went down the same amount of times before we both got tired." Patton answered, slowly moving his arms up and down as he realized he was in the perfect position to make a snow angel. "It's a tie."
Roman frowned, copying Patton beside of him in making a snow angel. "That sucks... Oh, I have a better idea!" Roman climbed up from the ground, turning to see his snow angel before going to help Patton up from where he was laying.
"What's the idea?" Patton asked, brushing off some of the wet and cold snow from his clothes. Roman didn't explain yet, instead pulling Patton onto his sled so the both of them could sled down together. Patton held onto his shoulders as they went down, chest pressed to his back, glad he had the cold to blame his rosy cheeks on this time. Only when they were down all the way did Roman start to explain himself.
"A snowman building contest! We can do what we did last night and whoever loses buys dinner again."
"I dunno... Can we at least have a fair judging system this time?" Patton asked, smiling at Roman who looked completely oblivious.
"What do you mean? Last time was perfectly fair! You totally had me beat." Roman insisted, grinning as he turned to start on his snowman.
"Oh, c'mon Roman." Patton said, happening to glance across the street. His eyes lingered on two of their friends houses, smiling wider as he had an idea. "Hey, why don't we have Logan and Virgil be the judges? Then we'll get a real answer?"
"Logan and Virgil?" Roman repeated incredulously, pouting. "You think they're unbiased? They literally teamed up against me last year! And they're your best friend!"
"Roman! The competition was all in good fun, and they're your friend too now." Patton insisted, frowning. "Besides, we just won't tell them who made the snowmen, that way they have to pick them based on skill!"
Patton caught Roman's eyes, showing him his frown. Roman felt a squeeze in his chest, cursing these feelings as he sighed and smiled slightly at Patton. "Okay, okay! We can have them judge. Now let's get started!"
Patton agreed, and the two were off rolling up their snowmen's bases. They didn't take too long to get a good enough base, as soon the two were already working on the middle of their snowman.
Patton was working on lining rocks up the snowman's middle for buttons, carefully placing them on the snowman and making sure they stayed. He was about to turn and start rolling the ball for his snowman's head when all of a sudden a flash of white sped past his shoulder and right into his snowman, knocking the rocks from their places and onto the ground. Patton whirled around to face Roman, who was patting down his snowman's middle and acting like he hadn't seen a thing. Patton huffed, realizing Roman was likely planning to cheat just as he had done the night before with their gingerbread houses.
Unlike yesterday though, Patton decided he wasn't going to be so easy on Roman.
He waited a while before he decided to get his own payback, allowing Roman to get away with throwing a few more snowballs his way. Most of them missed his snowman or simply didn't cause much damage to his work, so Patton didn't mind ignoring them for now. Especially when Roman had his head balancing on the top of his snowman, about to start working on steadying it on the middle of the snowman. Before he could do that though Patton had a snowball made in his gloves, turning towards Roman's snowman and aiming the snowball right for its head.
Lucky for him he managed to hit his mark, hitting hard enough for the head of the snowman to tip right off of the top and into the snow, where it fell apart right as it hit the ground. Patton made no attempt to hide what he had done as Roman had, grinning widely as Roman turned to look at him with wide eyes. "Wha-you-? Patton!"
"What's the matter, Roman?" Patton asked, knowing smile still on his lips. Roman stared at him for a few moments, processing what had happened. Then his eyes narrowed, lips quirking upwards as he bent down to scoop up another snowball, Patton giggling and running as Roman chased after him with it, scooping up snow to make his own as he tried to escape. The two broke out into a short snowball fight, chasing each other all the way around their yards laughing and yelling cheerfully.
It ended when Patton hid behind Roman's snowman, Roman giving up before anymore harm could be done to his new creation. Patton grinned triumphantly as they went back to their snowman building, knowing Roman wouldn't be trying to sabotage him again this time.
After a while their snowmen were completely finished, decorated in spare clothing Patton had laying around. Scarves, hats, and they each got a carrot for the nose. Patton had stuck with the classic snowman look, buttons up his front with a hat and scarf, a rock nose and mouth. Roman had done a little extra(as per usual), using the red scarf Patton had given him to make the snowman a sash, stacking stones on the snowman's head to make a crown. He added extra snow around the snowman's middle and head to look like large shoulder pads, and did his best to give the whole snowman a princely look.
Once Roman finally agreed to stop adding extra details to his snowman the pair headed over to Logan's house where they found both Logan and Virgil, also playing in the snow in their backyard.
"We need you guys to help us out!" Patton explained to them after greeting them. "Me and Roman are having a snowman building contest, and we need someone to judge our snowmen so we know who won!"
"And you're not allowed to know who made which snowman because we all know you two are biased." Roman explained, crossing his arms with a pout, making the others laugh.
Soon enough the two had agreed to come and see their snowmen, walking around and examining them closely.
"I mean, it's not really hard to tell who's is who's." Virgil laughed as he looked over the snowmen, Logan agreeing with him. "We'll still judge fairly though, don't be so worried dude. It's not like we hate you, we're not always gonna be against you."
"I know, I know." Roman sighed. "I'm just a bit bitter still. I know we're all friends now though, and I appreciate you helping us to judge our snowmen."
"We're glad to help." Logan assured him, stepping away from the snowmen. "I think I know which one my favorite is."
"Me too." Virgil agreed, looking to Patton and Roman.
"Well tell us!" Roman encouraged, impatient with the two standing there staring at them.
"Yeah, who did the best?" Patton joined in excitedly.
"Personally, I prefer this one." Logan gestured to the snowman Roman had built, gaining a grin from the man. "No offense to you Patton, but the other one is almost always used. This one is original and interesting."
"No offense taken! It's just for fun." Patton said, still smiling widely. "I think Roman's is cooler too, honestly! I'm just not as creative as he is."
"Thanks, Pat." Roman sent a small and genuine smile his way. "You're plenty creative too, though."
"I agree too," Virgil said, surprising Roman. "I mean, I think we all know I'm all for things that are different from the normal. I convinced Logan to decorate for Christmas like it was Halloween last year. The prince snowman is cool."
"Wow," Roman said, smiling. "Thank you, Virgil! I'm glad that you liked it."
"Guess that means dinners on me tonight," Patton laughed.
Soon after the four of them were talking about another snowball fight like last years before they started to get into it, launching snowballs this way and that. They spent their day that way, playing in the snow just like they had as kids.

The end credits of another Disney movie scrolled quietly through the screen of Patton's television, volume muted by the remote a few moments ago by Patton. Empty takeout containers rested on the coffee table in front of his couch, which is where he set the remote now that he wasn't going to need it anymore. It had gotten dark outside quite some time ago, and now it was getting late for the two to be hanging out.
Patton turned to Roman to ask if he was heading home soon only to find that Roman was laying back against his couch cushions, eyes shut peacefully and mouth hanging open slightly. He was fast asleep, and must have been that way for a while before Patton had noticed. He seemed so relaxed on Patton's couch, legs curled up next to him as he sprawled slightly across the couch, ribs rising and falling steadily. It made Patton feel tired just looking at him, and he didn't think he could bear to wake him.
He decided that it wouldn't be an issue for Roman to stay over there that night. Neither of them had much to do and if he did need to go somewhere it wasn't as if he were far from his own home. Patton simply couldn't wake him, and instead pulled a blanket he had nearby to put around him, covering him up with it so he wouldn't get cold.
Patton himself laid back on his couch, sighing and staring up at the ceiling. He really didn't want to rise to go to his own bed that much. It was late and he was full and sleepy, and the thought of rising from the comfortable cushions of his couch was unbearable. He didn't try very hard to stop himself as he realized he was already slipping off into unconsciousness on the couch, feeling his eyelids close and finding them too heavy to open back up. Instead he let his mind slip and let sleep take him.
