43: Acceleration
Abby had packed all her medical supplies. She and Jackson would join the army as field medics with the clan's healers.
Clarke had gathered the fighters Kane picked out and Raven's tone generator were secured to her belt. Equipped with guns, rifles and some with shields of the guard they were ready to follow Clarke and the Commander into this war. They left the camp when Indra joined Clarke at the front.
Kane on the other hand would stay and take care of the camp.
In a few hours Raven, Sinclair and Wick would move out, too. But not to the mountain, but to the dam. Because Raven still couldn't walk without Anya's cane, a warrior of Trikru would accompany them and carry Raven trough the woods. To distract herself from her own frustration, Raven fiddled with the radio while Wayne and Sinclair busied themselves with packing the bombs. Clarke had to give them a signal when to blow up the turbines and Raven again made sure, that the radio worked.
In the meantime Emerson positioned himself in front of the screens in the security centre. He just received his bone marrow and shouldn't be working, but after this sky girl's threat he was worried. So the compromise he took with himself was sitting and not standing in front of the screens. Firstly he checked the outside of the mountain, but he couldn't find anything out of the ordinary and so he routinely moved on to check the cameras inside. He just wanted to make sure, that nothing escaped his notice. And soon he found something out of the ordinary. He knew all of his guards and this guy with Lovejoy's ID was not one of them. How smart, he thought, of the blonde girl to shift his focus on the outsiders, but it ultimately didn't work.
When Bellamy noticed, something was off, it was almost too late. He was talking to Raven over the radio when his keycard was declined and only moments later a guard behind him shouted, "Don't move! Identify yourself." A glance over his shoulder told Bellamy, that two guns were pointed at him. He ignored Raven's frantic question, "What's going on over there, Bellamy?" and decided to run. A shot rang out behind him, but luckily it missed him. He ran up a flight of stairs and dove around a corner.
The guards behind him split up to circle him. One directly followed Bellamy and the other would go around.
Catching his breath, Bellamy looked around. To his right was a fire axe. He thought about it for a second, but when he heard footsteps approaching, he had reached a decision. He smashed the glass, revealing his location, grabbed the axe and before the guard had fully turned the corner, Bellamy swung the axe at him. He missed the vital parts, but could knock the gun from the guards hand. He ducked away under the hands of the guard and brought the dull back of the axe down on the man's head.
Without hesitation, Bellamy grabbed his key card, collected the gun from the floor and ran down the hall and through a door to his left.
Through the vents and empty hallways he made his way up to Vincent Vie's quarters. He needed help and he desperately hoped, that Maya's father would be able to help. On the way, he radioed Raven, to say, that he was good now, but things just got more comlicated. In turn Raven informed him, that Wick was now helping her to find a solution to the acid fog.
So while Raven and Wick took care of the chemistry, Bellamy asked Vincent for help.
Luckily for Bellamy he had already planned a route for him and gave Bellamy a blow torch, so he could take and make every available shortcut.
When he finally reached the room with the tanks and control panel for the acid fog, Bellamy barricaded the doors with his axe and after that Raven and Wick guided him through the process of neutralising the acid fog and when it seemed to work, Bellamy told Raven to fire the flare.
Happy with his accomplishment, Bellamy turned around, ready to go and when he heard the banging on the door, he hurried down a ladder close to the tanks.
He passed a dirt-specked pH-meter and following a hunch he brushed of the dirt. His blood froze, his heart began to race. It showed a pH level of 0. He had neutralised nothing.
Immediately he grabbed his radio trying to contact Raven, "Raven, Wick, come in! The acid fog is still active! The army is not safe! I repeat, the acid fog is still active! Don't move out!"
But he got no answer. Emerson's men had found the radio and cut the line. There was no way, Bellamy could warn the army now. Now they could wipe out the Outsiders once and for all.
The doors to the chemical control room burst open and multiple guards stormed in. Bellamy sped up his decent, but he stopped right next to one of the tanks. He looked down at the blow torch and he knew, he had only one option left. Blow everything up. So he activated the torch, fastened it to the tank and ran. He didn't know how much time he had and he didn't want to find out the hard way. But in his haste he was spotted diving into the vents by a guard. The guard ran up to Ballemy and shot at him, Bellamy shot back. Bullets flew around Bellamy and a few grazed him, but he landed the first shot, right into the forehead of the guard. Without looking back, he continued crawling down the vent and soon he heared the explosion, followed by a wave of heat and flames. Crawling faster, he just reached a safe turn when the flames caught up to him, blowing over him and burning his hair. But Bellamy was safe and the acid fog was disabled. For a short moment, Bellamy allowed him to breathe, his body slumped against the wall.
He would just catch his breath for a second, before returning to his friends...
