22: The council

When Kane and Lexa ran out of the Ark, they saw Lexa's guards and some Skaikru in a fight. Even though many Skaikru were on the ground unconscious. But others joined the fight in blind rage and it didn't look like it would end soon. But Lexa knew, her people couldn't hold themselves forever against the mob. Especially without killing people. Killing was always more effective than knocking out. So she had to stop this now.

"Enough!"
"Em pleni!"

Lexa and Kane shouted at the same time. But nothing happened. If the guards didn't want to be overrun, they had to keep defending and the Skaikru didn't look like they wanted to stop.

"Separate them, now," Kane shouted to a blonde women in uniform.

"Shoun em we!" Lexa instructed Anya and Indra while the Skaikru guard separated the fighters by using their shock batons.
But while Heda's guard sheathed their weapons, a handful of Skaikru people, including Jaha, kept fighting against the guard.
Then shots rang through the air and everyone froze. "Enough," Clarke didn't scream, but she was heard. This second of shock was enough for the Skaikru guard to overpower the last resisting people and end the fight.

Jaha and his comrades were temporarily placed in holding and Heda's guards left with the wagon to wait in the woods until further notice. Meanwhile, Kane called for a council meeting, that Lexa, Anya, Indra and Gustus as well as Clarke would attend. That Clarke didn't had to wait in the waiting room with Octavia and Bellamy, was thanks to Lexa, who wouldn't attend without Clarke - the only Skaikru person she felt she could show trust to - present. Abby on the other hand tended to the injured people in holding.

Kane opened the meeting, "I called this meeting to discuss the most recent events. Today we will discuss a truce with the Grounders, Mt. Weather and Finn's attack on one of their villages. The floor is yours, Heda. Please start with the attack on your village."

Lexa stood up from her chair and started to speak, "My name is Lexa kom Trikru and ai am Heda, Commander in your language. The leader of my people. About a week ago, TonDC, a village close to your camp, was attacked by Finn and Murphy from the Skai People. My general, Anya kom Trikru, was there at the time, so she will report."

Lexa sat down again and Anya stood up to continue, "The two boys came at nighttime with two fayogons..."

"Two rifles we found in a bunker before you all came down," Clarke interrupted.

Anya faltered at the interruption, but then continued, "Finn kom Skaikru burned our entire food stock for the winter. Fortunately they could be stopped before anyone was killed. They were placed in holding, so Heda could decide what to do with them. The next day Clarke, Octavia and Bellamy kom Skaikru arrived. They laid their weapons down and lived with us for the time remaining. When Heda arrived she wanted to her them out. During that Finn kom Skaikru tried to attack Heda. In her protection he was killed. A funeral by your customs should happen soon. Murphy kom Skaikru is never allowed to set foot into TonDC ever again for the part he played in the attack."

The councilmen closest to Clarke stood up in anger, spouting, "You killed one of ours? You are murderers, there can never be peace with you!"

"Sit down and watch your tongue," Kane interrupted and Clarke countered, "Finn was the aggressor. And besides, don't act like you suddenly care. You send him with 100 other people down as lab rats. You didn't care then whether he lived or died. Don't suddenly pretend like you care. At his 18th birthday, you would have sentenced him to death without a second thought. He attacked their leader. Do you wanna tell me, that you wouldn't protect the chancellor?"

That seemed to shut this man up.

"Clarke," Kane began, "I suggest that some of the 100 organise the funeral. You knew him best and you have already made customs. Of course some of us could help."

What a nice way to say, you already had to bury people because of us, Clarke thought. But she nodded. The 100 were a good choice to organise this.

"Now that this is over, we should discuss a truce," Kane suggested.

"No, this discussion is not over," the councilman near Clarke interrupted. "How do we know, they are not lying? About this boys death? And I think, we should not let this children organise the funeral. They are criminals and kids. They don't know anything. Just like this girl, that calls herself the leader of the Grounders. We will not negotiate with a child and terrorist like this."

"Mind your manners," Kane threatened, "She is the leader of this people and you will treat her with respect."

"I will do no such thing. They are thugs."

At this words, Gustus and Indra drew their swords. "I knew, Skaikru could not be reasoned with, Heda. We waste our time here," Indra scowled while the councilman ranted, "See, they are violent brutes..."

"Enough of this childish behaviour! Indra, Gustus sheathe your swords. And you," she turned to the man, "stop throwing a tamper tantrum." The man sputtered, but after a quick glance to Kane, he sat down again. Indra and Gustus were reluctant to put their swords away, but after Lexa told them to in Trigedasleng, they also complied and silence fell over the room.

"Good, let's continue." With that Clarke sat down again.
