Chapter 2
She held the boy's pale, icy hand tightly in her own ebony, warm hand, though the temperatures could not compare.
She hummed a bit to herself as she opened her front door revealing the tan, blue, and green apartment.
The boy stepped inside, grey eyes wandering around the living space as he stayed completely silent.
The lady watched him quietly as she stepped in, closing the door behind her. "Do you like it?" She asked, a small smile appearing on her face.
The boy looked back at her, showing off his snow white teeth through a big smile.
"Yes, it's very pretty," he nodded, turning his head back to look over the lady's home.
The lady smiled as she watched the boy take in every feature of her apartment as she walked into her kitchen.
After she looked through her cabinets and fridge for a bit, the lady decided to break the comfortable silence.
"So, what do you like to eat?" She asked, closing her fridge as she looked over her shoulder to find the boy laying out on the floor, legs and arms spread.
"I don't know," the boy replied, shrugging a bit in his position. "I suppose I'll just like whatever you like," he said, his large eyes traveling to the woman in the kitchen.
The lady quirked an eyebrow, not quite understanding the boy's logic. "You can't control what you like," the lady said, confusing the small boy on her living room floor.
The boy sat up, resting his small pale hands on the knees of his dull blue jeans. "Why not?" He asked, tilting his head a bit to the side.
The lady shivered a bit at the chills she got from the boy, but tried to ignore it. "Well, you don't control things you like or dislike, and if you do it's like forcing yourself," the lady tried her best to explain to the boy, who nodded slightly.
"Okay, I'll force myself to like it," he smiled a bit, going back to laying on the floor.
The lady decided that he was just a very open minded boy, giggling a bit at his logic as she opened her freezer.
She pulled out one of her favourite foods, chicken nuggets, and decided most children liked them, so he should.
After putting the food in the oven, the lady went back to her living room, now finding the boy simply staring at a wall, looking quite disappointed.
"Are you alright?" The lady asked, a bit of confusion laced in her concerned voice as she watched him, standing a few feet away.
The boy sighed, turning to the lady. He stared at her a bit, his chilling eyes seeming to be searching for something in her. "C'mere," he eventually said, motionning her to sit on the floor next to him with his small hands.
Without question, the lady did so, copying his criss crossed position right next to him.
"I don't have a happy place," the boy frowned, drumming his short nails onto the hard wood floor as he looked down at his hands.
"What do you mean?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. She scooted a bit closer, wanting to help the boy.
"My happy place," he nodded, looking around the room. "I tried to find it, but I guess I don't have one," he sighed, clearly sad about it.
"Well, everyone has a happy place, it's just things that make you happy," the lady nodded, thinking about it a bit as she explained.
"Can we go to yours?" The boy asked, a bit excited to see a happy place for the first time.
"Sure," the lady smiled warmly, straightening her back as she started to think of her happy place.
The boy grinned, scooting closer to the lady within seconds, and grabbing her significantly warmer hand in his.
The lady shivered a bit, but once again, ignored it as she closed her eyes, beginning to enter her happy place.
The sound of waves crashing on shore startled the lady, and she felt confused as warm breezes brushed her arms.
Her eyes fluttered open, soon putting her in awe of the scenery.
Tall palm trees swayed above her, birds flying to a different tree which had a different fruit.
The sky was blue with only a few soft clouds flowing through the sky, the bright sun warming up the world around her.
A blue ocean crashed waves upon a clear yellow beach before drawing itself in, leaving behind a few beautiful sea shells.
The lady suddenly realised something was off in the midle of her gazing, the boy wasn't next to her. "Hello?!" The woman screamed, looking around frantically. "Where are you?!" She yelled again, starting to run.
"Wait! I'm over here!" The small voice of the boy called back, running towards her. The lady sighed in relief, stopping in her tracks and turning around.
She couldn't help but gasp at the sight of him, his pale, nearly grey, skin had turned into a warm peachy colour, and has grey eyes had once again turned hazel. His white shir was now a sky blue one and his jeans had gotten back colour. As she watched him the boy rubbed his hair, seeming to melt away the black colour, lettimg it drip off, and turn it into a warm, light brown.
"I feel different," the boy told her, walking to her side. "Do I look the same?" He asked, looking up at her curiously.
The lady cleared her throat, looking back down at the boy. "Not too different, you look nice," she replied, smiling at his change. He didn't feel cold anymore, he didn't make her cold.
The boy couldn't help but to smile back. "That's nice," he said, feeling happy, "I think I'm warmer, too."
