Stupid & Kind
A/N: Couldn't find a good Star Wars song, so here's a video I made and put on YouTube.
Palbi's POV
Two days pass and all I have done is train Yerha in combat, check up on Mitaka to make sure they are still working, and contacted Karina the Great's only biological daughter before her womb became sterile. Her name is Traina and she has agreed to let us build a base there, but only if we protect her people.
The Finalizer departs today with the last of the troops on Hoth and Mitaka is supposed to find the old clone factory before I arrive. What state it is in is unknown, but I know I'll find a way to get some clones.
I open the door of my new apartment, B-514 and almost walk into Yerha. "What?" I ask as she stares at me.
"Ummm you didn't show up for training this morning."
"Train on your own."
"I did, but-"
"But what?"
"I was hoping we could battle again, just before our mission tomorrow." She says softly looking down.
"You really think your going to get in a lightsaber battle?" I roll my eyes behind my mask.
"No, but just to be prepared for the unexpected."
I sigh. "Fine. Go back to our training room and I'll be there shortly. Get the training sabers out."
"Training sabers?"
"Yes, now just do it." I brush pass her finally and begin the walk to Nines apartment. I haven't spoken a word to him since that day I told him to leave me alone.
I reach it and knock on the door.
He opens out of uniform and quickly goes to attention recognizing me.
"Ren, what can I do for you?"
"At ease." I take off my helmet. "I'm sorry I shut you out, but I need your help."
"Sure, what's up?"
"Get dressed in uniform and go to my training room. I'll be fighting Yerha today and I want you to come in and surprise attack her as well."
"Is she ready for that?"
"She wants to be." I smirk.
Ben's POV
"Check out the Flacon the best you can." I tell Chewie, as I fix the last wiring problem.
I head back in from the hangar and almost run into Alexa.
"Oh, sorry Solo." She says as she drops a metal piece.
"What's this?" I ask picking it up.
"Oh just making some quick fixes on my ship before take off in the morning."
"I just finished mine. Chewbacca's looking it over."
"That's good. Mind giving me a hand?"
"Actually I'm a little busy, maybe Poe can help."
"I'd prefer yours if you don't mind." Her sparkling eyes beg me to change my mind.
"Sorry Alexa, I can't. Plus Poe's speciality is X-Wing, so he really is the best choice."
"Okay." She frowns. "See you later."
"See ya." I walk away and hear her sigh.
I can't put my finger on what is causing her to act so weird.
I walk down the hall and spot Poe and Finn walking towards me hand in hand.
I wonder if Rey and I look that cute.
"Hey guys." I nod a hello.
"Hey, where you going?" Poe asks.
"Get supplies for the Falcon."
"May want to get to work on that junkyard glory." Finn replies.
"Hey, don't dismiss the Falcon, its your ride tomorrow." I defend it.
"Yeah, but you should get the wiring problem fixed." Poe says.
"I already did. Only took about an hour."
"What? No way." Poe shakes his head.
"Yes way. Chewbacca is doing his final check of it."
"Oh cool. We're just heading out to check out BB-8's compartment, he said something is wrong."
"Okay, while you're out there Alexa needs some help on her X-Wing."
"Okay, I'll check it out." Poe say and walks off with Finn.
Poe's POV
I approach Alexa who is putting a panel back into place.
"Ben said you needed help." I tell her, as I walk up with Finn behind me.
"No thanks. Already got it." She says and finishes the second to last screw and starts the next.
"I literally just saw him. Are you sure?"
"I said I got it." She snaps.
I open my mouth and Finn puts a hand on me. I turn to look and he shakes his head. I look back at Alexa, worried what's wrong. She's never been this forward about not needing help.
She finishes and shoves the screwdriver in her pocket. "Stupid boys." She mumbles, as she walks past Finn and I.
I stand in shock for a second. "What did I do?" I look to Finn.
"Don't worry about it, let's go get your ship checked out."
I nod my head slowly and Finn slings his arm around my shoulder guiding me to my ship.
Palbi's POV
I slam my training saber against Yerha's and she pushes back. I kick her in the stomach and she tenses in pain, slightly leaning forward, but remains on her feet.
She tries to take some of my moves and goes to fake strike, but drops and swings her leg to knock me over. I jump over her and stick the tip into her shoulder causing her to lose balance.
She flattens and rolls away, then to her knees, and back up.
I stand ready for her attack. She glares at me and I smirk, giving my saber a twirl.
She let's out a small battle cry and begins delivering blow after blow, I recognize her pattern and wait for an opening.
There.
I ram my saber just right into hers, stopping her and she looks surprised, then anger fills her eyes.
"You're angry, you hate that you never have the upper hand... Even when you think you do... I ruin that proudness in your eyes... That cocky grin you give me..." Our eyes our locked and I use this opportunity to tap into her mind. "You... You're afraid... That you will never become a Knight of Ren." She pulls back unexpendly and I miss step in my footing. She swings her saber and I duck.
I quickly regain myself and kick her shin. She grunts in pain, as the door opens and Nines steps in wordlessly.
She matches the battle stance I give her, then Nines goes to do a knock out blow and she turns delivering a powerful kick in the stomach that sends him flying backwards.
I smirk and charge. She blocks and begins fighting me and Nines regains himself and joins.
This isn't the first time that has happened to him and won't be the last.
She continues to block my moves with her saber and dodge Nines attack until he does what I've never seen a stormtrooper do.
He drops to his knees in a swift motion, takes off his helmet, lifts off the floor, and smashes it on her head with a crack followed by a thump of her hitting the floor.
I let out a breath of air and take a second to breath and assess what just happened.
"Where did that come from?" I finally ask and remove my helmet to wipe my forehead.
"Had to get some kind of new moves to keep up with you." He smirks, helmet in hand.
I smile and place my helmet back on before Yerha has a chance to wake up. She still has yet to see my real appearance.
I kneel down and feel for her pulse. It's strong and rapid from our fight, like it should be. I move to sit and bring her head to my lap.
"She has a pulse and no blood is coming from her head."
"Maybe a minor concussion." He offers.
"Call for a medical droid. I'll wait here with her."
"Okay." He slides his helmet back on and runs off.
I sit quietly looking at brown hair cling to her sweaty face. I begin to brush it back out of her face and damp her forehead with my sleeve, not caring that I'm collecting her sweat.
Her brown eyes flicker open and she looks at me confused.
"Welcome back."
"How long was I out?" She asks.
"Couple minutes. How does your head feel?" I ask, still brushing her hair back.
"Like a bitch."
I laugh softly. "Yeah I know about pounding headaches."
She smiles and hesitates, as if she's going to say something.
"I'm sorry I failed you again." She frowns.
"I know you're trying hard to please me."
"Why are you being so nice to me?" She asks.
"Well if you're going to be a Knight of Ren, but more importantly my apprentice, then I need to be able to trust you... Although someone I greatly trusted and thought was my friend, just betrayed me and the whole First Order, I've realized that I need to be able to trust you in battle tomorrow. To have my back and I'll have yours."
"You can trust me, I won't let anyone hurt you." Yerha smiles at me and I smile back behind the mask.
"You can't tell, but I'm smiling back."
She laughs with me. "When will I get to see you without your helmet?"
I hesitate, debating if now is the time... "One day." I reply.
"I know all about waiting." I tell the little orange and white BB unit in front of me.
He questions what I mean.
"For my family. They'll be back..." I look to the sky and back down. "One day."
They never came back... Why?
A/N: Traina is pronounced Train-ee-ah... Anyways, Palbi's new room spells out something. The room numbers tend to have meaning. Like A-113 (Kylo and Rey's room) is a Pixar tradition and the passcode, 5956, spells out Kylo on a keypad. A-77 (Rey and Hux's room) is the year the first Star Wars movie came out. And then there Palbi's room on Hoth, 55, the year Disneyland opened.
Also there's a stormtrooper for Daisy Ridley, DR-0410. Her initials and birthday.
So has anyone noticed these little things? I know a couple got the Pixar reference.
