The Day the World Stopped

Have you ever watched an anime or read a manga and thought I would do anything to be in that world!?

No. Don't try anything to try to get in their world. It is NOT fun to be chased by ogres and then get eaten by a mass of slime. Oh, and you can't forget the downside that you have to be killed TWICE to get into the mess that I got into.

It started when I got into an anime called Tensei Shitara Sutaimu Datta Ken (That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime). At that point, I was just a normal girl in a normal, totally uneventful life. I hung out with those who shared similar interests with me, dressed up in casual cosplay, and taught myself Japanese using Duolingo. But this wouldn't be an interesting story if that was all it, would it?

One day, I was on the computer, in math class, when everything froze. I mean, literally, everything just stopped. Now, it was so quiet, that I didn't notice it until I checked the clock and it still read 2:16 for the third time even though I was sure more than a minute had passed. Of course I pushed it aside, thinking it was my mind was just playing tricks, but then I noticed that the girl sitting next to me was not blinking. And trust me, I stared long and hard into her eyes until my own watered. She wasn't even breathing.

I felt something thick well up in my chest as I looked up at my teacher, sitting at his desk, not moving an inch. None of my classmates moved. I almost didnt want to break the silence, fearing it would break whatever spell was holding the class captive.

So I did what any reasonable student would do and raised my hand. I was there for a while, the sound of my heartbeat loud in my ears, my breath short and measured while I sat, ticking off the seconds in my mind. My hands were jittery while I resisted the urge to tap against the desk, the other slowly getting colder before finally said: "Excuse me? Mr. Dubovick? I have a question."

You probably could hear my heart drop. 'Well that proves my theory.' Maybe I fell asleep in class, but normally you can't speak in dreams, right? And I had no control over the world around me. So that docked that off. Maybe I was having some weird hallucination or something. Or a strange daydream.

Before I could decide on a explanation for the odd events and settle my racing heartbeat, I was startled by another voice piercing my thoughts, soft but clear in my ears.

「こんにちは、アヴィドさん。」

To be honest, I just about fell out of my chair. "何で-" I automatically muttered before registering that it was Japanese I was hearing. My eyebrows scrunched up as I looked around the classroom but no one had moved. "Who in the world-?"

「アヴィドさんですか。」

It said my name, but in question. "Yes..? はい-" My gaze darted around the classroom, peering at anything even mildly suspicious. It couldn't have came from the speakers or the overhead, those had very distinct tells. Not a computer, the voice would have been easily traceable.

「アヴィドさんCONFIRMED。はじめまして。声です。行きます。」

'Avido(?) Confirmed. Nice to meet you. Koe??? Go??' I knew part of what it said, but not all. Was it a bad move confirming my name? Probably. What did Koe mean? No clue! I racked my brain for what to say.

"あのう、英語は話せますか。" I attempted, but didnt get to finish.

「Three-」

The voice called and I exclaimed, "Wait-!"

「Two-」

"ちょうとまって!" I tried again.

「One-」

"What's going on??" I cried.

「ゼロ。」

And that was my last moments on Earth, the Earth that I knew. My last moments as an ordinary teen. It only gets messier from here.
