Chapter Twenty Nine
Susanna's POV
Why did my eyelids feel so heavy? When I was finally able to get them open, the light was blinding to my eyes. I heard a sound and realized that it must have been me trying to say something. I looked around the room I was in. There were three women standing there. They seemed vaguely familiar, but trying to think of their names made my head throb. I closed my eyes back and listened to the music that was playing from someone's phone. I had heard those songs before... where?
Three men came rushing into the room. Two of them were shorter with dark hair, and one was taller with blond hair. I could almost grasp at names for them. But to no luck. One of them rushed out of the room, calling for a doctor. He came back in a matter of no time, and a doctor rushed to my side. He started asking me questions. Some were easy to answer. Like my name, birthdate. Some other's were a bit harder for me. Like who all was with me in this room. I closed my eyes and pushed through the pain. I looked eyes on the blond guy and one of the other guys. "Chad and Caleb." I said while pointing, then held my hand to my head. "Your Joseph. And your from that new girl group, 1Girl Nation." She said pointing at one of the girls.
The doctor asked me more questions, than asked to speak with Joseph alone in the hallway.
Joey's POV
The doctor let out a sigh. "I'm afraid that she may have temporary amnesia. I am hoping and praying that it is temporary."
"What... what do you mean?" I stammered out the words.
"Well while she remembers some things. Her family. The name of some of the folks back in the room. But she can't place any thoughts on having lived here in Nashville. It seems to me that she is missing about a years worth of memory.
He let that sink in for a moment. "Be careful. She's probably just experiencing some trauma from the accident. It's to be expected after something like that."
I made my way back to the room. Madison met me by the door, concern on her face. "She doesn't remember anything since she moved here, Joey. I just asked her. She has pretty much no clue who I am. The reason she remembers y'all's name's from being a fan of Anthem Lights."
I sat down in the chair beside of Susanna's bed. She looked at me and smiled. "It's so nice of you guys to be here for me. But why?"
"You seriously, don't remember?" My heart hurt. "You've been living down here for almost half a year now. You've been working with the band and at the bookstore."
She laughed, and for a moment I hoped she was remembering but just playing a trick on us. "Your funnier in person, Joey. And cuter. I wish I lived in Nashville and was becoming a singer and all that other good stuff..." Her words were slurring, and she was yawning. "My medication is kicking in... I'm gonna get some sleepy time, Joe-joe..."
She didn't remember me. But as I watched her sleeping form, something welled up inside of me. I was willing to fight for this woman. I really cared for her. I would stay by her side, until she got her memory back. No matter how long it took.
