Chapter Twenty Five

Susanna's POV

It's hard to believe how fast time has flown since Christmas. Everybody was back home by New Year's Eve and we celebrated by having a really good Bible study. I was so thankful it wasn't one if those parties where everyone kissed at midnight. Because... Well that would have just super awkward on my end. I was happy to be back and we've started on finalizing some plans, a lot of dates have already been set up. I think the first show is supposed to be March or April. Wow and it's already a good ways into the month of February.

I loved the reaction I got when Chad and Joey first saw my car for the first time. It went like this:

I pulled up outside the building where they record their music and instantly spot Joey and Chad outside. They seem to be getting along right now, so that's nice. My classic car rumbles to a stop in front of them and I can see their jaws are slack. I can see them, but they can't see whose driving the car for the tinted windows.

I see Chad's mouth move, and if I had to guess he said, "Wow that think looks fast." And something about a dude. I have to struggle to keep a straight face and not bust out laughing as I open the door and step out.

I lock the door and slowly walk around to the other side of the car, the side the are standing and gaping at. "Hey Chad. Hey Joey." I can't wipe the smirk off my face as I look at the shocked looks on their faces. "Do you guys like my car?"

Joey is attempting to make words come out of his mouth, but to no avail. He keeps glancing back and forth and me and the car. Finally he manages one coughed out word, "Green."

Chad stands up taller, seriously I feel so small! "Is that really your car, Susanna?" When I nod in reply and tell him how my family rebuilt it, he says glancing at Joey, "Wow you are way too cool for..." He stops abruptly because Joey kicked him. "Dude, what was that for?"

Joey seems to have regained his voice, "Susanna is cool. Don't talk like that about her." He's talking to Chad with his eyes, I just can't tell what exactly.

Then they both lock their gazes on me at once and say loud enough for Caleb and Alan inside to surely hear, "CAN I TAKE IT FOR A DRIVE?!?!?"

Before I can answer Caleb is at the door calling out to us, "Come on, guys. Alan said we HAD to practice." He spots me, "Oh hey Susanna, perfect timing. We wanted to run through a song with you too."

But back to the present... right now I'm heading home to the apartment in my own car. It feels good to not have to bother somebody to drive me or walk everywhere. Though I do kind of miss getting to spend that extra time with Joey. I turn my focus my full attention on driving.

Thankfully the traffic wasn't all that heavy today and the sun was finally shining again, chasing away the earlier chill and rain clouds.

Suddenly everything seemed to go into slow motion. I watched as a little girl in a purple dress flowing out around her ran out onto the road after her run away ball. I slammed on my brakes and the squeal seemed to echo.

The girl ran away back in the direction she had first darted out from. My car hit a puddle of water and ice mix, and it went spiraling round and round as the grassy embankment kept coming closer. I did the only thing I knew to do, and the best thing to be honest, pray. "Oh God! Please help me..." Were the last words, I heard from my own voice or anything else, for that matter, before everything went totally black.
