Chapter Three
Evidently I had finally went to sleep at some point during the night, at least for a little while. One thing I knew for sure was that I hadn't slept peacefully. I couldn't seem to get Joey and those blue eyes of his outta my mind. I glanced over at my alarm clock, where it declared in bright red numbers that it was only 5 am. I knew I was too awake to go back to sleep now, so I grabbed my phone off my night stand and sent emails to my parents and my friends back home, updating them on everything. Okay, well... everything but the Joey thing. Before I knew it, an hour had passed and I could hear Madison roaming around in the kitchen.
Slipping out of my room, I stiffled a yawn. Madison heard me and looked up. Her blonde hair was freshly washed, piled on her head in one of those messy buns, and she was already dressed in jeans and a floral shirt for the day. She smiled, "Morning, Susanna! Sleep well?"
I let out a deep breath, "Um... Well not exactly."
"Do you like pancakes? We can talk over those? Chocolate or peanut butter chips?" My roommate asked, holding up a bag in each hand.
"I have a slight allergy to peanuts. So chocolate all the way!" I said, several minutes later we had steaming pancakes placed on the kitchen island in front of us where we sat on the tall bar stools.
"Spill! Was it the fact of being in a new place or something else that ruined your sleep?" Madison asked. I studied my pancake intently, cutting it and separating it on my plate. "Ahh, it was Joey wasn't it?"
I looked up at her, surprised that she knew me so well already. "Yeah. I just feel so stupid that I didn't recognize that it was him. He probably thinks I'm a jerk." I put my head in my hands, "Oh great, I've not even been here 24 hours yet, and already I goofed."
"You'll be alright Susanna! I tell you what. I work at this neat local diner not too far away. We always have somebody playing or singing there. Why don't you bring your guitar and perform. It's a great way for new people to get heard. Agents sometimes drop in to check out diamonds in the rough and get their next big hit." Madison was setting cross legged on her stool staring at me, "Now this is the part where you say, 'Thanks Madi that's a great idea I'll go get my tush ready'." She punctuated the sentence by poking my knee.
I couldn't help but laugh, "Fine, I'll go get ready." Twenty minutes later, I was out of the shower and dressed. I pulled my hair into a new ponytail style I had saw on pinterest. I had picked out a plain chocolate brown quarter sleeve shirt and paired it with a pair of blue jeans. And of course I couldn't pass up my brown cowgirl boots, my favorite shoes! I chose the brown cause it suited the brown shade my hair was during the colder months.
"That's what your wearing?" Madison said looking me over, "Here at least wear some jewelry." She handed me a turquoise necklace and I was surprised what good it did for the outfit. "Much better!" She smiled and then we quickly made our way to the diner where she worked.
