Chapter Nine

~ A few weeks later (Mid October) ~

Susanna's POV

I have to say that this year's birthday has been my favorite. Daddy and Momma came down the day before my birthday. they brought some of my stuff down that I couldn't bring along on the bus or didn't want to have until I was settled in somewhere. So my room here was finally going to feel a little more like home, and I would have more clothing options as well.

On my actual birthday, my family and I took in the sights of Nashville and ate out, and then went by Hobby Lobby. I had a text message on my phone as we were driving back to my apartment that read, "Happy Birthday, Susie Q! We are the same age for four days. :) Joey."

My mom noticed my smile and elbowed me, wiggling her eyebrows, "Is that a boy?"

"Momma! It's just Joey. He's wishing me a happy birthday." I felt my cheeks heat up.

"And Joey's a boy. When will we meet him?" Daddy asked with a grin.

"I'm sure you will meet him while y'all are down here. Maybe we can all go to the studio and check it out. It's really amazing!" I said and we talked about music and home for the rest of the night. Madison told me that each person that paid rent for an apartment here, got to have access to one other apartment for family visitors, several weeks during the year. So Daddy and Momma actually got to stay just down the hall in the apartment building.

The next day passed pretty quickly and pretty much uneventfully, but I did take my parents to meet the members of Anthem Lights. When we knocked on the front door Alan answered. He had cupcake smeared all over him, which made for an interesting first impression. They all really hit it off, we had a lot of fun and they ended up sending me and Joey after Chick-Fil-A after our supper. Everyone was laughing together when we got back and when we asked them what was so funny they just brushed it off. We went back to the apartment and another fun day in Nashville was over.

I woke up the next day feeling happy and rested, and there was a text from Joey, it read, "Sup, got any plans today?"

I smiled at that, but got up and around and when I went to my parents' room, they were already awake and eating breakfast. When I asked them what we were going to do today, they said they had other plans for today. Okay so yeah, that was pretty odd. I shrugged it off, and went back to my apartment, Madison said she had to work today and couldn't do anything. I got out my phone and texted Joey back, "Yeah. I am alone for the day. You?"

Within seconds, Joey's answer came back. "Wanna hang out together then?"

I felt a smile come on my face, and answered him back. "Sounds fun! :)"

"Be there in 15." Joey answered, and sure enough about fifteen minutes later, Joey was down stairs. I had taken advantage of the spare alone time so far today and had curled my hair into loose curls and put on one of my nicer outfits that I had got for my birthday. I felt pretty good about myself, I was glad for the chill in the air to use as an excuse to wear the scarf and jacket too.

Joey's POV

I sat in my car tapping my hands on the steering wheel to the beat of the music pouring out of my speakers. Everybody else had plans today, so I figured if Susanna didn't already have plans, we could just hang out together and celebrate us awesome October babies.

The door to the apartment building opened and out stepped a woman. It took me a couple seconds to realize that it was Susanna, I had never seen her with her hair down, let alone curled. It suited her. "Hey." She said with a simple smile.

"Hi. You look nice today." I said, before I caught myself.

"Thanks! I got this for my birthday." She said with a blush, and swept her hair back over her shoulder.

I took that opportunity to change the subject. "Birthdays! That's why we are here!" She just laughed at me, rolling her eyes. "Seriously, Sus. We can celebrate however we want."

Susanna smiled, "You know the town so much better than I do. You decide."

"Oh, you'll regret saying that!" I said laughing and wiggling my eyebrows at her.

"Just shut up and drive." She said smacking my arm again. I started singing random songs and she joined in. The top was down and people were staring at us, but neither of us really cared.

I took Susanna to some of my favorite places around Nashville and we had a blast. My cell phone started ringing and I saw that it was Alan, I picked up and he answered my 'Yo, this is Joe.' with, "Hey bro. Brycie is having cravings. I'll text you what she wanted. We are at the studio. Bye."

Susanna was looking at me, with a curious look on her face. "Alan's seventh child is making his wife crave stuff again." We both laughed, and pulled into the parking lot. I looked at my phone, "Seriously, dude? Look at this list of stuff, Sus." We finally got everything on the odd list and headed back to the studio.

"Does anything about this feel weird to you?" Susanna asked me as we waited for somebody to open the door.

"Now that you mention, yea..." Before I could finish my sentence the door burst open and we were bombarded with balloons and noisemakers in our face.

"Happy Birthday!!!" Everyone called out together, except Chad who went, "Escape! Oh wait, we aren't doing that today? My bad!"

The decorations from yesterday were still up, but a banner had been added that said 'Happy Birthday Susanna & Joey!' They had out done themselves, the rest of the band and their wives were here, Susanna's parents, Susanna's roommate, and my brother Donald too. We all had a blast and only a couple of us threatened to smash the leftover cupcakes from yesterday on Alan...again. We all stopped in our tracks and burst out laughing when Fallon was chasing Chad with a clown nose and rainbow wig in her hands, while he was screaming, "I'm not a clown! That's just offensive!"

Susanna's POV

This was amazing. Not only had Joe and I had fun out on our own today, but this surprise party was so much fun. Brycie, Fallon, and Kelsey were the ones that done the party and they are awesome and totally sweet. I got to watch after the Powell girls, Avery Jade and Presley Love, for a little bit, and they are just adorable barrels of fun. I really felt that I could call this bunch my friends, and maybe even my Nashville family, along with Madison of course.

Joey was over by the piano with Avery Jade, trying to show her how to play a few notes. I could hear her say to him, "But I wanna dance. Watch my twirl." She started to spin around, the little girl was in fits of laughter when Joey joined in with her. My heart warmed at that sight and I lightly bounced Presley in my arms. I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face or my heart for that matter.

Author's Note:

In the picture I added for this chapter you can get a general idea of Susanna's outfit and hairstyle. That's not exactly what she looks like though, for several reasons. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. :)
P.S. - I already had the dates planned for all this, then at lunch today I finally got to watch the Escape release party. I started laughing and could hardly believe how well that fit into my plan. I wanted the surprise party to be right between Susanna's birthday and Joey's.
