Chapter Five

Susanna'sPOV

I let the music just flow out of me, and it felt amazing. I opened my eyes as I finished the song and took in a crowd that seemed to have actually really enjoyed my music. This felt awesome! I thanked everyone and came off the stage, followed by their clapping. I felt great, like nothing could wipe this smile off my face. I was headed for Madison to return the guitar when I found out I was wrong.

Joey was standing near the counter, his eyes locked on me. I felt the smile leave my face and a wave of guilt washed over me. I headed toward him, and surprise was in his eyes. "Hi, Joseph." I said looking down at my hands, "Do you... um... want to have a seat with me? I'd like to tell you something."

He turned to a couple watching us, which I recognized to be Caleb and Kelsey Grimm and told them something. They just smiled and nodded and left to sit at an outside table. I sat down at the nearest table and he joined me. "So. Susanna, is it? Didn't expect to see you again this soon. You didn't bring your pepper spray, did you?" He laughed, and I felt slightly comforted.

I laced my fingers together and looked at him across the table, doing my best not to focus on his eyes, knowing I'd get lost in them. "About that. I'm really sorry for almost attacking you and being all rude. And I feel so stupid for not recognizing who you were, it hit me last night after I went to bed who you are. Joey Stamper. You must think I'm a total jerk." I felt my face heat in embarrassment as I looked him in the eyes to hear his response.

He was smirking at me. Smirking! "Hmm... I'll think about it Susie." He noticed my gapping mouth and added, "Chill. I'm just joking. Maybe we should have a redo." He stood up from the table and smiled down at me. "Hi, mind if I have a seat? I'm Joey Stamper, by the way."

I couldn't hold back the giggle that burst from my lips. "Sure, Joey. I'm Susanna Stephens, it's nice to meet you!"

Joey smiled at me, and said. "Nice to meet you too. So I'm in a band. You might of heard of us. Anthem Lights."

He was so easy to talk and laugh with. I smiled, placing my index finger on my chin, and replied in a British accent. "Hmm. Yes, I must say, the name does seem to ring a bell."

He laughed and shook his head at me. "Your something, Susanna Stephens."

Joey's POV

This girl was pretty cool. She was a singer and musician, and just as I thought was goofy too. She was easy to laugh and talk with. That British accent had totally taken me by surprise. She was sitting across from me, laughing and looking pretty proud of herself.

"Thanks! I'll take that as a compliment." She flashed me a grin. "Did you know that we are home state neighbors? I'm from Kentucky."

"That's pretty cool." I added. We kept talking for a while, back and forth, just getting to know each other. She told me about her last job, which was hard to leave at the AIG Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky, almost Ohio.

We'd been talking for a while when Susanna's mouth formed an "o" shape. "We've been talking for over an hour."

"Wow time can fly. Hey you wanna come meet the gang?" I asked her.

"Seriously? YES!" Susanna practically squealed. "Oops. I um.. mean yeah sure."
