Chapter 1
HC
I walked through the halls of westerburg, my heels making clicking noises as they hit the floor. I heard the noise of footsteps behind me. I knew who it was- Veronica sawyer. A girl I had met this morning, and welcomed into my small group that ruled over the high-school kingdom we called "Westerburg". She was amazing at forgeries, and, dare I say- quite adorable. She had warm brown eyes and short, dark brown hair. She liked the color blue quite a bit.
People quickly moved out of the way when they saw their queen breeze through the halls with a smaller girl being dragged behind her. They probably all thought I was going to beat her up, god were they wrong. Veronica desperately needed a makeover if she was going to be hanging with the heathers. Right before we reached the door, heather duke appeared out of seemingly nowhere. I swear to god, she's like a demon.
"Whatcha doin' heather?" She asked. Her eyes drifted to Veronica and a smirk spread across her lips as her eyes looked Veronica over. She around Veronica, getting a full view of her.
"Who is this nerd?" Duke giggled. I rolled my eyes.
"Her name is Veronica sawyer. She got me and mac out of a month's detention, she is AMAZING at forging notes, and could be very beautiful if I were to just give her a makeover. So she is joining us" I said back to Duke. Heather D. Looked at me with an annoyed and confused look.
"Did you get hit on the head with a metal brick? She can't join us!" Duke snapped. I felt my face heating up with anger.
"Just look at her!" Heather grabbed Veronica's face between two of her fingers. Veronica's face was a deep shade of pink- that was understandable. I was about to snap at Duke when she burst out laughing.
"She almost looks worse than you! God, she looks like a dyke" heather shoved Veronica away from her and into the locker. Veronica yelped in pain and fear, grabbing the side and front of her head. I speed-walked angrily over to Duke and opened my mouth to say something. How DARE she do that?
"Oh look, heather is going to defend her new girlfriend!" Heather Duke yelled, turning to me before I could speak. Her smirk raised my levels of anger higher than they already were. I walked over to Duke, my hips swaying. Instead of screaming at her, I moved my leg back and kicked her in the knee as hard as I could. She yelped and fell down onto the ground. The students around us laughed a bit. I pressed my foot onto duke's cheek and bent down to whisper to her.
"I wouldn't suggest you do that again, Sweety. And I request a true, meaningful apology before lunch tomorrow- unless you want to sit alone." I whispered. I removed my foot away from her face and walked to Veronica, my hips still swinging. She was still curled up on the floor, grabbing her head in pain, her face red. I helped her stand up. Her eyes were red and tears were streaked across her face. I jumped when I saw the two streams of blood leaking from her nose.
"Oh no sweety, you look like hell" I said, grabbing her hand and speedily walking her out the doors. We arrived at my car and Veronica's eyes widened at the sight of the cherry red car.
"That's a really nice car" she said. I looked at her, she had part of her scarf held up to her nose.
"Thank you... do you need a tissue?" I asked as we got in the car. She nodded her head and I grabbed a couple tissues from my purse. As I handed them to her, she smiled. When she did, I couldn't help but giggle a little.
"Thanks, Heather. For the tissues and for kicking heather duke's a-" she was cut off by heather McNamara knocking on the window of the car. I rolled my eyes and rolled down the window.
"What do you want from us, mac?" I asked.
"Well, you guys were leaving and Duke started yelling at me and I wanted you to take me with you since I couldn't drive myself." She said. I looked at her blankly.
"Get in the damn car. We're giving Veronica a makeover." I said flatly. She got in the car, a worried expression growing on her face.
"Oh my god, what happened?" She asked shyly. Veronica turned to her.
"Heather duke didn't like that I was joining you guys and called me ugly, then threw me into a locker and continued to mock chandler for wanting me to join. Heather kicked Duke onto the ground and very threateningly asked for an apology." Veronica said. McNamara frowned.
"Oh my god, I feel so bad for you." Heather said. The topic soon shifted to mythical creatures. It was a tightly held secret between me and McNamara (and now Veronica, who swore that she would keep the secret hidden) that she was a mythical herself- a mix of some type of fae and a mermaid (sirena chilota to be exact). After about 5 minutes, we arrived at my house. Veronica had an amused look on her face as we walked to the front door. I unlocked it and opened the door.
"Well, come on in!" I said, smiling. When I did, Veronica's face turned a deeper shade of red than it already was. I didn't think that was physically possible and got slightly worried for her health. The three of us went upstairs. As I opened the door to my room, I got a phone call. It was a phone number I didn't recognize- (818) 263-8891.
"Hello?" I asked as I held the phone up to my ear. Nothing. The other line was dead silent.
"Who is it?" McNamara asked.
"I don't-" I was cut off by a loud sound coming from the phone. It was like a smack. Shocked, I put the phone on speaker. Suddenly, we heard heather's voice through the phone.
"Who is it?" It said. My head snapped up and I looked at the others. We all looked at each other, shocked. Another voice was heard on the phone.
"I don't-" it was my voice. I hung up immediately and started panicking.
"Somebody recorded what we were saying!" I said loudly, standing up and pacing.
"Don't worry heather, I'm sure it was just a glitch on your phone." Veronica said. I whipped around to face her.
"'Just a glitch'? Yes, because a glitch TOTALLY has a phone number THAT I HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN!" I snapped.
"What was the phone number?" McNamara said. "I'll try calling them"
"(818) 263-8891" I responded, now getting a bit angry. McNamara called them and we all anxiously waited for the response.
The call went through.
Silence, at first. It was a few moments of silence that felt like terrifying hours. Then, a woman's voice.
"Hello! My name is Jannette K. D.! You have contacted the marimalt caverns and lost river town. How may I help you today?" She said. McNamara was as white as a ghost.
"Uh-h, we just got a call from this number, and we just heard a recording of our earlier conversation. I know this sounds odd, but we were just wondering what the number was." There was a pause.
"Well miss. I seem to have- no, no, not that. Green bean, can you get my book?" She said, her voice flat and eerie now. Another voice was heard in the background, a child, their words unintelligible.
"Thanks. Now, we are sorry. Your number has been logged and tra-" the sound of crashing and shattering was heard. Then footsteps. Somebody running.
"LOST RIVER, MARIMALT CAVERNS. FIRST RIVER NOW US. I KNOW NOTHING I AM NOTHING I KNOW NOTHING I AM NOTHING. SAFE SAFE CAN'T GET US NOW. THROW IN GREEN BEAN. NO NO NO NO. I KNOW NOTHING I KNOW NOTHING-" she kept repeating herself. The call cut out.
