Chapter 38

I looked at the people sitting on the floor in a circle. We were discussing things that we could do during the storm tonight. It was already snowing hard outside and they were already cancelling schools and day programs. “How about we make a bunch of food and eat it?”

“No, Em, we are not making a bunch of food and eating it.” Trent sighed, placing his index finger and thumb on the bridge of his nose. All of Em’s suggestions include either food or Magic Mike. I wasn’t complaining about the last one.

“Then what do you suggest?” I groaned at their bickering. They’d been fighting every time he turned down one of Em’s suggestions.

“Anything but Magic Mike and cooking; what do you guys think we should do?” Trent retorted, looking at the group of us. Adrian was lying on the ground with a smile on his face and his eyes closed, but he wasn’t sleeping. Logan was upside down on the couch, something he does often, playing Pokémon on his DSI. Jessie was lying on her stomach reading a book about fashion and I was sitting crisscross applesauce, with my head on the seat beside Logan.

“Maybe we should play spin the bottle.” Logan suggested, wriggling his eyebrows.

“Nope.” I quickly shot down that idea.

“Why not?” He asked, furrowing his eyebrows.

“That would be so awkward, besides you’re in a relationship with Em.” I sighed, shaking my head.

“I forgot about that.” Cue pillow to Logan’s face from Em.

“How about we tell ghost stories?” Jessie suggested from the floor. She turned and looked at us with raised eyebrows.

Everybody either shrugged or agreed. “I’ll start. Once upon a time-.” Jessie started to say.

“Isn’t that how you start a fairytale?” Logan asked her, closing his DSI and flipping onto his stomach. Jessie glared at him.

“Okay, there once was a guy named Wayne and he liked picking apples, but he could only pick them at night. He had very sensitive skin and would burn in the sunlight.” I furrowed my eyebrows at this. “One day, he went out to an apple picking farm to pick apples at night-.”

“No, I thought he went there to do the Macarena.” Logan snorted and we all let out a laugh.

“And he heard a noise, it sounded like someone walking, but he was the only one in the apple picking farm. He looked around when all of a sudden; someone put a chloroform rag on his face.”

“This isn’t scary.” Logan whined and Jessie glared at him one final time.

“Fine, then you do it!” She demanded. Logan smirked and accepted the challenge.

“There was a girl who enjoyed watching movies. Some days, she would just sit on her couch watching movies. They weren’t just any movies; they were black and white movies. She would just sit there with her hood on and watch the movie. She’d skip meals to watch the movie; she’d skip school to watch the movie. One day, her parents walked over to her and noticed that her eyes were melted and she had been dead for two years watching the same movie on replay!” We just stared at Logan for a few minutes before letting out barks of laughter.

“I think we should do something else.” Adrian said when he regained his breath. “How about we do a chain story? I start it off and it goes from each person.” We nodded, accepted pretty much every idea there was.

We all got into a circle to make it easier. It went Adrian, me, Logan, Trent, Jessie, and then Emilia. Adrian spoke first and then me.

“There once was a girl.”

“Her name was-.” I was cut off by Logan.

“Fiona.” I glared at Logan for using my name. Couldn’t he say Cindy?

“And she liked-.” Trent was cut off by Jessie.

“A-.” Jessie was cut off by Em.

“Boy named-.” She was cut off by Adrian, who thankfully was going to stop this.

“Adrian.” I felt my face warm up. I didn’t know this was going to be factual.

“But he is a-.” I was going to continue but again Logan decided to cut me off.

“Hot, dreamy, boy.” Logan said in a girlish voice. Everyone was laughing at this, aside from me.

“But that isn’t why-.” Trent started to say.

“Fiona likes him.” Jessie smirked. I sat there with a flat expression on my face.

“She liked him because he was funny.“ Emilia said and passed it to Adrian who was in stitches.

“She also liked him because he is a gentleman, sporty, interesting, and the whole package.”

“But he’s also a jerk; he’s mean, stupid, a liar, and annoying.” I quickly got out.

“Maybe we should stop playing that game.” Logan said, glancing at me. I was panting and red faced. It wasn’t my best look. It was just hard to get a full sentence in without someone cutting you off.

“Oh! I have an idea! We can play ‘Apples to Apples!’” Emilia smiled, jumping up from her spot.

“Finally, something that isn’t about Magic Mike.” Trent scowled. Jessie and I shrugged.

“I mean, I wouldn’t mind watching it.” I muttered and Logan smirked.

“If Adrian played Channing Tatum’s part.” Logan smirked and I reached across the circle and my fist came in contact with his face. Logan recoiled back slightly but was still smiling. “FIONA LIKES ADRIAN!”

He got up and was running around. I started chasing after him. He went down a hallway and I followed him, gaining speed. He was chanting ‘Fiona likes Adrian’ at the top of his lungs and I guess it was slowing him down. I gained enough speed and I took a leap, landing on Logan’s back and taking him down. He tried to get away but I latched myself onto his leg, holding his stomach down with my elbow and held his mouth shut with my hand. I twisted his leg. “SAY MERCY.”

A muffled ‘no’ escaped his mouth and I twisted his leg further. “SAY MERCY.” Another muffled ‘no’ and I twisted his leg again. He let out a whimper. “What was that?”

“Mercy.” I smirked and punched him in the stomach before getting up. I heard Logan getting up and running towards me. I quickly ran back to the living room when all of a sudden, Adrian told me to move to the side, so I did ad Logan flew past me and hit the couch face first.

“You were going to tackle me? You’re a football player, for God’s sake! That wouldn’t have been fair!” I snapped and Logan got up from the couch, rubbing his back.

Emilia dropped onto a pillow that she set on the floor and opened up ‘Apples to Apple’s’ and told us how to play.

All was going well until Adrian demanded he win the round when he put down ‘hotdogs’ for ‘quiet.’ We had to explain to him again that the round was won by whomever’s card suited the topic the most.

“Hotdogs are quiet! They don’t make noise!” Adrian argued.

“But they aren’t made for making noise.” I replied and he glared at me.

“Worm’s aren’t quiet!”

“But worms are living creatures and they move yet they make no noise.” I raised an eyebrow as he glared at me.

Adrian ended up rage quitting and we eventually ended the game. “Let’s play Truth!” Trent suggested and we all looked at him. This isn’t a good idea.

Adrian came back to the circle to play this game unfortunately. Trent was asking me a question. “When was the last time you peed your pants and why?”

“I was 9 and the teacher wouldn’t let me go to the bathroom so I peed myself on the carpet to teach her a lesson.” I muttered. Everyone started laughing at that and I just awkwardly sat there. I was 9, okay? “What is the most embarrassing thing you have done in front of a crowd?”

Adrian looked at his feet while Trent and Logan laughed. “I danced hip hop on stage in front of the whole entire middle school when I was in 7th grade.” I held my stomach as I imagined Adrian dancing hip hop.

“Why?” I asked when I finally could breath. Adrian had a smile on his face.

“It was the talent show and I thought break dancing was my talent but I was terribly mistaken.” He sighed. “I bombed it so bad that halfway through my dance, they asked me to ‘please stop.’ I even hit my head on the speakers trying to stop.” I was in stitches; my stomach was on the verge of breaking.

“What is the worst give you received?” Adrian asked Jessie and she pursed her lips.

“A water bottle.” She wrinkled her nose. “You know the ones for sports?” I was still chuckling about Adrian’s dancing mishap. That probably inspired him to dance. “What would you do if you woke up one day and realized you were invisible?” Jessie asked.

“I would look up Channing Tatum’s address and I’d go and watch him all day!” Emilia gushed while we just stared at her. Logan was glaring at her. “Name one celebrity you would want to make out with.”

Trent bit his lip in thought. “Megan Fox.”

“Why does every guy like her?” Jessie groaned. “She’s so fake!”

“What is that I smell?” I pretended to sniff the air. “Is that- jealousy with a hint of obsession?” Jessie punched my arm while the people around us started laughing.

“What is an awkward moment you had with a family member?” Trent asked Logan.

“It was last Thanksgiving and we had a party at my grandmother’s house. I was going to get some ham before it ran out and I accidentally brushed my hand up against my grandma’s butt.” Logan shivered. We all simultaneously said ‘Ew.’ “Do people get attracted to you for only your looks and body?”

Adrian pursed his lips and turned to look at me with a smile. “I don’t know, do they?” He bumped shoulders with me and I glared at him before elbowing him. “I’ll take that as a yes. Do you have a secret talent and what is it?” Adrian was smiling at me.

I shook my head and Adrian furrowed his eyebrows at me. “What about the viola? You’re amazing at that.” I shook my head.

“You play the viola?” Trent asked and I nodded. “Why didn’t you tell us? Do you have any recitals coming up?” I nodded again. “When?”

“Saturday.” I replied and he furrowed his eyebrows.

“Were you going to tell us?” I shook my head and he raised an eyebrow. “Why not?”

“If you guys are there I’m going to mess up.” I replied.

“Way to be nice about it. How will we being there mess you up?” Logan asked and I pursed my lips.

“I’ve only ever had Jessie and Aunt Cherry at my recitals.” I replied.

“Well, now it’s going to be us and your Aunt.” Emilia smiled and I nodded, letting out a sigh. Adrian bumped into my shoulder and smiled at me.

“Okay, Trent, if your life were a movie, who would you like to play you?” I asked.

“Leonardo DiCaprio.” He smiled widely as he nodded, imagining the movie. “What do you hate about the person to your right, Adrian?”

I was okay until I realized that I was to the right of Adrian. He bumped my shoulder again and looked at me, pursing his lips. “That she’s dense.”

“What?” I’m not dense!” My jaw fell to the floor. He bumped my shoulder again.

“You are dense.” I let out a huff of breath, glaring at Adrian.

“What is one thing that you are afraid of?” Adrian asked Emilia and she sighed.

“Moths and butterflies, same thing really; what is the point of their existence?” We all nodded. “Who do you think the most attractive guy in the room is?”

Logan put on a girly voice. “I think that Adrian is the most attractive but I’m going to back off because Fiona likes him and has him wrapped around her talon- I mean claw- I mean finger.” I glared at him.

“Should I be insulted?” Trent furrowed his eyebrows and Logan winked at Trent. Trent turned away from Logan.

“What is the worst thing you’ve ever cooked or baked?” Logan asked Jessie and she frowned.

“Chicken, it was like a rock.” She winced. “If you could take any celebrity to a stranded island with you, who would it be?”

“Josh Hutcherson.” I smiled and wriggled my eyebrows.

“Why? That guys jaw is like The Crimson Chin’s from Fairly Odd Parents.” Adrian wrinkled his nose and I shrugged.

“I think he’s hot. What is the craziest thing that happened to you at the mall?” I asked Em.

Emilia bit her lip. “I got pushed out of line by an old lady.” We all looked at her weirdly. “I bent over to get my bag and I was pushed over by the old hag.” She frowned before turning to Logan. “Would you still date me if I had a huge mole on my face?”

“Yes? If you had to listen to one genre of music for the rest of your life, what would it be?” Logan asked Jessie.

“Punk rock; if you could have any super power, what would it be?” Trent pursed his lips at her question.

“I’d fly so I could save money on airfare.” He smiled.

“This game is boring now.” Logan whined, leaning his head on the floor from the couch.

“I have an idea.” I suggested with a mischievous smile on my face.

“Which is?” Adrian asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Makeovers.”
