Chapter eight

"You said it was a mist of some sort?" Tony asked as the four of them stepped inside the elevator.

Aurora nodded as she stepped inside the elevator. "Yeah, I would've thought it was regular chloroform, if it wasn't for the obvious side effects. It was cold, and smelled like chemicals."

"Hmm... Maybe a mixture? There's a couple things that could blind you but the real way of narrowing it down is finding out if it's permanent or not." He sighed as the elevator took them up towards the labs. "Friday, have the lab ready for us please."

"Of course, Mr. Stark." Friday's voice replied.

"Um, Mr. Stark, I think Kasey might also need some medical attention, of some sort." Peter spoke up, holding onto the rail in the elevator. "She stabbed her hand back at that lab, and I think she scratched herself or something on her face."

He sighed. "I don't know if she wants to be checked on judging from that reaction of her bolting..." He replied. "Friday, where is she?"

"Kasey has requested that I withhold that information, would you like to override?"

Tony pinched the bridge of his nose with a deep sigh. "Maybe in a bit, Fri. Thank you."

"She really thinks of everything." Aurora complimented. She had to give it to Kasey, she was pretty intelligent. She rubbed a thumb over her collarbone nervously, figuring she could breathe easy now that they were back at the tower.

Tony led them into the lab and to two different cots. "Alright, let's see what we can figure out." He grabbed his rolling stool and a couple of tools. "Which one of you wants to go first?" He asked as he rolled over with a small cart.

Aurora nudged Peter forward. "You can go first." She smirked and took a step back. "You can be the test subject."

"Are you sure about that? I don't really mind-" Peter irked a brow before heading over to the vague area where Tony was. "You joke now but I'm the one who's gonna be able to see here in a second."

"That is if it's fixable." Tony replied. "Alright," He guided Peter to the bed to sit on and grabbed a small flashlight. He turned it on and shined it in one of his eyes. "Can you see or tell what I'm doing?"

"Sounds like you turned on a flashlight, so I'm assuming you're shining it into my eyes." Peter told him, but with a hint of disappointment to his voice. "But I can't really see the light."

"Hmm. Your eyes aren't responding either..." he sighed as he checked the other one. "But, it looks like they aren't damaged either??" He kept looking between them and finally put it down and looked towards his computer. "Hey Fri, do you have anything to compare their eyes to?"

"I can adjust some photos if you'd like, sir."

"Do that, let me know when you're done." He told her.

This piqued Peter's interest, and also boosted his hopes of getting his vision back. "Not damaged? I wonder if what they misted up with was some sort of coating..." Peter muttered to himself, going over any sort of possibility.

Tony tilted his head. "Possibly. That's why I'm asking for a comparison. I'm curious if Friday can tell any differences besides not reacting to light." He explained. "Cause I can't really."

"I am ready to compare. Please hold up your phone so I may see him, Mr. Stark."

"Sure thing, Fri." He held it up and he watched her scan and work.

"It appears there is a slight color change to the entire eye. It is subtle but detectable if you know what you are looking for. It appears to be due to a thin layer of chemicals covering the eyes." She confirmed.

"Well, now the question is if it's removable." Tony leaned back, tapping his foot a bit.

Peter resisted the urge to rub at his eyes. Just the thought of some sort of chemical being on his eyes made him uncomfortable. "I sure hope it is, knowing there's something on my eyes is really disturbing."

Aurora found her way over to an extra stool, pulling it over to sit on. Even if she couldn't see, she could still smell the familiar scent of the lab, and it smelled like home.

"I'd say we try to wash it out but I'm worried that it might make it worse by spreading it more. There's a few things we can try but all of them we need to be careful doing since eyes are already sensitive as is."

Peter nodded as he listened along. What Tony had said was right, with eyes being pretty sensitive and delicate organs. "Should we start now, or..?"

"If you want," He replied. "I'll do my best to see what I can do." He wasn't nervous per say but just didn't wanna risk making it worse either. But no matter what they did it was either wait and pray or try to fix it. They were flying blind here.

Peter wasn't worried about Tony messing with his eyes, he put his full trust in Tony. What he was worried about was whether or not those efforts would actually work. "I'd rather try and get it out than let it sit and soak."

"Alright then. One moment." He heard Tony roll across the room, dig around for a bit before rolling back over. "Alright, test one I guess. Pepper has used Q-tips to get makeup stuff out of her eyes so maybe it'll work the same." He gave a shrug. "You'll need to be as still as you can and when you feel it do your best not to blink or flinch away if possible." He instructed.

"Uh, great. Perfect. Yeah." Peter felt like he was waiting to get a shot, except he couldn't see it, and it was going near his eyeball. "I'll try not to move I guess.." Peter situated himself in a position where he was least likely to sway, and sucked in a deep breath so even his breathing wouldn't move him.

"I'm going to die if you pull out any makeup." Aurora commented, leaning on a lab table while she waited.

Tony shot her a small smirk she couldn't see but quickly focused. He carefully used the Q-tip to gently touch Peter's eye, not pressing very hard at all and despite him trying Peter did instinctively react, trying to blink but stopped himself. Tony gently twirled it and pulled back. He spotted the nearly clear film attached and grinned as he removed it. "How's that?"

Peter forced his eyes not to close while Tony worked, but the second Tony pulled his hand back Peter slapped his own over his eye, nearly falling off the stool. "Geez-!" He blinked, quite a few times, before explaining his abrupt movements. "Uh, I think I can see out of that eye now, but it was like I just got flash banged!"

Tony winced. "Sorry kid, just keep a hand over that one for now, okay? I'll have to whip up some glasses for you both till your eyes readjust." He told him. "Are you ready for the other?"

"Yeah, I'll be ready this time to close my eye." Peter kept his hand over the clear eye, but made sure it wouldn't get in the way of Tony fixing the other eye. He repositioned himself once more, widening his blind eye.

Tony repeated the process with the other side of the Q-tip and easily got it free and let Peter shut his eyes. "There." He placed the Q-tip to the side for now and looked at Aurora. "You wanna do it now or after I make the glasses?" He asked her.

Peter kept his hands over his eyes, even though they were watering like crazy. He was practically buzzing, being so excited about being able to see again.

"I think I can wait a little longer for the glasses, then I can really see once the film is removed." Aurora snickered. "And I won't have to slap myself."

Tony nodded. "Fri, can you get on that?"

"Already started the process when you brought it up sir."

He grinned. "Perfect. Let me know when they're done. It shouldn't take long." He turned to Aurora. "As for you missy," His tone wasn't angry but was much more serious. "You said you got electrocuted? Are there any issues from that remaining that you know of?"

Aurora bit the inside of her cheek out of habit. Sometimes she forgot how intimidating Tony could be, even if he didn't mean to be. "Riiight... They zapped me for a good while, and the only thing I've noticed out of the ordinary is some chest pain and maybe a bit of lightheadedness. I didn't know if that last one was from being blind or not."

"Hmm. On a scale of one to ten, how bad is the pain?"

"Mm between a four? And a six I think. Depends on if I'm up and moving around I guess." She shrugged. To be fair, she had a pretty great pain tolerance.

Tony sighed softly. "I can get you some pain meds but I'm not sure what else to do about that other than monitor it and let it pass. We'll test the lightheadedness after we get you unblinded." He stood up as Friday informed him that the glasses were ready.

He went over, checked them over, and brought them over. "Alright underoos, here's your new glasses. Put your hands down but keep your eyes closed."

Aurora tapped her fingers against the lab table rhythmically. "Alright, thanks Mr. Stark." She responded.

Peter closed his eyes and pulled his hands down, squinting his eyes further to further block out any light until he received the glasses. Once he put them on, he cracked his eyes open, finding it easy to see again. Peter grinned widely, glancing between different objects in the room. "These are great! I can see really well in them, and it doesn't even hurt."

"Great. Wear those for a few hours and you should be good. Alright, you ready to get your eyes cleared?" He asked Aurora.

She sat up on her stool, waiting for Tony. "Yup, go ahead and clear me up." She was itching to get her sight back, having felt pretty useless without it. Yes, she still had her strength and webs, but she just couldn't work as well as Kasey while blind.

Tony got to work and soon had them cleared and put her glasses on her. "There you go! All done. Any other injuries or issues that I should know of?"

Aurora opened her eyes and let out a relieved sigh. "Thank goodness that actually worked. I don't think I could do what Kasey does." She pointed at Peter, who she could thankfully see again. "You tell him about the air thing?"

Peter groaned, knowing Tony probably was already peeved with. Whoever those guys were, and telling him would only increase that. "Well- no... But really it wasn't that bad! I mean, yeah they basically took the air out of the room for a few minutes and I was suffocating pretty bad but I didn't pass out or anything! So.."

Tony stared at him for a moment. "You were in a room with no air for a few minutes?" He looked dumbfounded. "Peter, people pass out from lack of oxygen in less than a minute-" He explained. "And you somehow didn't?"

Peter opened his mouth to answer, then shut it, then opened it again. "I mean... yeah? Now that you point it out I really should have passed out but I was pretty determined not to..."

Tony sighed. "Hopefully they didn't think much of it. Any lingering effects from it at all?" He asked.

"I could feel my heartbeat in my head afterwards, but that's about it. It went away after a little while." Peter replied with a small shrug. "In all honesty, I'm worried they're gonna come back for Kasey. They seem pretty persistent."

Tony scoffed. "Well, they can't get her in here. So as long as she only goes out with the two of you for spider reasons and stays in our area, she should be fine." He replied. "Now, will she do that?" He shrugged. "Don't know."

"I hope she does, I really don't want her going back to those kinds of people, who threatened to harm one or all of us if they didn't get the information they wanted." Peter spoke, sighing lightly. "Should we try and find her?"

Tony nodded. "She's had time to cool off. Friday, override Kasey's request."

"Request overridden. She is out on the balcony." Friday reported.

"Thanks Fri." He stood up. "You two comin with?"

Peter stood up to accompany Tony, and to hopefully comfort Kasey. "Yeah, I have a feeling she could use a friend right now."

Aurora came over to the two as well. "I'll tag along too."

Tony nodded and led them towards the balcony.
