Chapter 93

Kasey swatted playfully at Matt's hand when he ruffled her hair and Claire ruffled her hair too with a laugh making her whine at them both. "Guysssss-"

"Yes?" Claire replied, keeping her close.

Kasey smiled. "You're gonna regret that." She spun over and pushed them both down onto the bed with a fanged grin.

"Vengeance!" She proclaimed as she snagged something from her pocket and before either knew what happened, she was sprinting out the door, laughing.

"Have fun!"

Before Matt knew what had happened, he felt something sticking his hand to... another hand? It took him a moment before he recognized Claire's hand stuck to his. He sat up, listening to Kasey zoom out of the room. "Damn she's quick-"

It took Claire a moment longer to realize and she laughed. "Where did she even get this from??" She asked, trying to pull free a bit but they were very much stuck together.

Kasey meanwhile, scampered up his walls in the living room and made a small hammock on the highest part of the ceiling, listening with a grin on her face.

"I have no idea. I thought she didn't have any more of that stuff here." Matt laughed lightly, trying to pry the webbing off of their hands. It was some pretty durable stuff.

"Yeah... I don't think we can just pull this off." She noted with a chuckle. "But uh... how do we get it off?"

"Kasey would probably know." Matt realized very quickly how difficult it was to move with someone else tethered to his hand. Although, it made it much more bearable that the other person was Claire.

Claire tried to move to get up but found it just as hard as Matt did and let out another laugh. "How long do you think she's gonna leave us like this?" She asked.

Kasey just smiled from her hammock in the living room. "I don't know, kinda wanna see if you two can figure it out or not-" She chimed in.

Matt turned his face upwards, finding he could hear Kasey from somewhere higher in the room. "Young lady, you get down here and unweb us this instant." He demanded, and a jokingly authoritarian voice.

"What's that? I can't hear you! I think my concussion is acting up again!" She replied back, speaking slightly louder than she was but had a playful teasing tone to it.

"Kasey!" Claire tried but she just heard her small giggle.

"How dare you try to use that against me missy." He repeated the same tone, along with a grin played on his face.

"STILL CAN'T HEAR YOU-" She replied back, a small laugh coming from her.

"Mmm... now would be a good time to sneak up on her and get her down with a broom since she can't hear us, right?" Claire asked teasingly.

"Oh, I think you're absolutely right. After all, you were pretty skilled at whacking her down from the ceiling with my cane. A broom should be even easier." Matt replied just as teasingly.

"Wait- Claire hit me with your cane???" Kasey suddenly piped up again, sounding incredibly confused. "Is that why my head was hurting so bad when I woke up????"

Claire just laughed a bit at that. "Sorry but it was a bit of an emergency."

"Oh- no, I'm sure I deserved it cause I know you wouldn't have hit that hard otherwise-" Kasey replied making Claire smile and laugh a bit again.

"So you can hear us now?"

"Shit!" Kasey swore which just made Claire laugh harder.

"I see that's what got her attention." He paused, and let out a light laugh. "Well, you get the idea. Ready to come peel us apart kid?"

"Hmmm.... Convince me why I should when it's more fun to listen to the two of you try to figure it out?" She replied back.

"Seriously?" Claire asked her.

"Mhmm." Was her only response.

"Because it is a lot harder to move around like this." It was a weak argument, but one he was willing to try.

"It is. And?" She replied. "You've gotten out of much worse situations. Surely you'll figure this out."

Claire snorted softly. "I mean, she has a point-"

"Fair enough, but I've never been bound up by spider webbing before." Matt pointed out, wriggling his hand lightly to test the strength.

"First time for everything, then." She replied back.

Claire hummed. "Scissors? Knife?"

"You'd break the scissors and the knife might? cut some but not much." Kasey replied, laying back in her hammock.

"Then I guess a knife is where we start." Matt muttered, wriggling his hand again, he tried to keep the movements to a minimum, not wanting to make Claire uncomfortable.

"So... any chance you'll bring us one?" Claire asked.

"Nope!"

She sighed and carefully shifted closer to the edge of the bed Matt was by.

"Guess we gotta figure this out then huh? Unless you keep a knife in your nightstand?"

"No, not usually. People usually can't sneak up on me." Matt chuckled, pushing himself up and leaning against the bed somewhat. "I can hobble though."

"I'd try to let you lean on me but that's hard when we can't put our arms over each other's shoulders-" She laughed softly. "Here," she grabbed his crutch and handed it to him.

"Thanks." Matt took the crutch in his free hand, leaning against it. It was starting to get difficult, being stuck to someone else. Maybe they should try this on the wrongdoers of Hell's Kitchen-

"Alright. Let's see if we can figure this out." She told him, carefully trying to guide him out of the room, making sure he could keep up okay.

Kasey listened to them, "watching" them try to get out of the room.

"If I hear you so much as snicker, you're grounded." Matt warned Kasey, sprouting a grin. He was careful to keep close to Claire, making his way through the apartment.

"You'd have to get me down first." She chirped back with a big grin.

Claire was walking around the couch, carefully guiding him when Matt's crutch got caught on something, knocking it out from underneath him, sending him towards the floor.

Claire gasped as she was pulled backward, off her feet when he hit the floor, landing into a sitting position as Matt instinctively caught himself with both hands.

She looked back at him. "Are you alright?" She asked, carefully shifting around so her arm wasn't in a weird position.

"We'll see about that-" Matt cursed as soon as he started falling, but was able to save the fall in the nick of time. He maneuvered around to push himself up next to her. "Yeah. Sorry, haven't gone around my apartment connected to someone before. You okay?"

"Yeah. I'm alright." She reassured him with a small laugh. "Here." She took his other hand in hers and carefully helped him to his feet along with herself.

She grabbed the crutch again and handed it back to him.

Kasey was snickering at them as soon as she knew they were both okay. "This is definitely gonna be fun."

"Ah! I heard a snicker. You're grounded young lady." Matt teased, taking the crutch and heading for the kitchen area. He had a few knives he'd be able to use on the webbing, he just hoped they wouldn't break.

"Not unless you can get me down!" She chirped back, still laughing.

Claire followed him and kept close so they wouldn't tug on each other too much.

"After we get this webbing off, you can bet on it. I'll give Claire the broom." He threatened, finding his way to the kitchen counter. He felt around until he found the utensil cabinet, and carefully pulled out a knife.

"Not the broom!" She cried in fake horror.

Claire laughed. "I will knock you out of that web, Kasey! Here," She carefully took the knife from him and carefully started trying to cut the webbing but it wasn't cutting.

Matt listened for the breaking of the web, only to find the only sound was the knife going against the webbing. Not through it. "I take it that's not working."

"Nope..." Claire confirmed with a sigh. "Kasey, how do you get this shit off???"

"Hmm... I'm not sure I want to disclose that yet."

"Kasey, I promise I won't tickle you again." Matt told her with a small smirk. Maybe he was telling the truth, maybe he wasn't.

She narrowed her eyes. "... Claire?"

"I promise." She agreed with a small laugh.

Kasey finally climbed down and approached them hesitantly. "You promise you aren't gonna try anything?" She asked them. Matt could tell she was staying light on her feet if they did try anything.

"I can't exactly do much while I'm webbed up anyway." Matt pointed out, listening to her light movements. He wouldn't say if he had anything planned quite yet. He held his stuck hand out to her.

She reluctantly came over and started trying to get it off. It stretched and moved as she pulled on it but refused to come undone.

She stopped and stood there for a minute. "Um... So... funny story-"

"You can't untie it, can you?"

"I can't untie it-" She confirmed. "But it's okay! It-It'll dissolve!" She reassured them.

"Kasey..." Matt warned, tilting his head to the side. Just from the sound of her voice he knew something was up. "How long will it take for this to dissolve?"

"U-Um..." She shifted nervously. "Ten hours???" She replied with a sheepish grin.

"TEN hours??" Claire repeated in disbelief. "Please say you're joking-"

She glanced away, shifting again. "Y-Yeah-"

Matt 'stared' in the direction of Kasey. "Kasey I swear to god-" He pulled at the webbing again. "We can't be stuck for ten hours-"

Claire slightly smacked Matt's arm. "Hey, I thought you weren't suppose to say that kinda thing?" She lightly teased him but looked at Kasey. "He has a point- We can't be stuck like this for that long-"

Kasey waved her hands. "Okay, okay! Let me try again, hang on-" She pulled at the webbing again but it refused to give at all and she had to pull away before she got stuck to it too. "Yeah- uh- I'm not sure what to do-"

"I can say it once. As a treat." Matt waited for Kasey to finish messing with the webbing, before she pulled away. Unfortunately, he still felt the webbing around their hands. "So what do we do?"

She shrugged. "Wait?? If I keep trying it might just make it worse..." She explained awkwardly.

"Wait? For ten hours? Kasey, I have work!" Claire replied.

Kasey looked down, shifting a bit on her feet. "'m sorry..." She apologized quietly.

"Let's just.. let's just keep trying different things to get it off." Claire was a great person, but he didn't know if he'd be able to survive ten hours literally tied to her.

Claire tried the knife again but it was still no use. "So... what else?"

"I'd suggest burning it but... That wouldn't be very safe..." Kasey mumbled softly.

"What about your teeth, Kasey?" Claire asked.

"Uh... I can try?" She offered, carefully pulling at it and biting at it and after a little bit of work, it broke and she started pulling it away. "I-... I didn't realize my teeth were that sharp-"

"I did-" Matt replied quickly, followed by a lighthearted chuckle. He wriggled his hand as the webbing started to come undone. He was relieved to hear they had found a solution.

Kasey helped pull the rest away then made a face at the feeling of webbing in her mouth. "Ew."

Claire laughed at that. "Maybe you'll think twice about doing that next time."

Kasey turned to her. "I absolutely 100% would do it again. No regrets."

Claire snorted at that. "I think that your dad will have something to say about that ma'am."

Matt was getting used to hearing it from Kasey, but it was a new experience to hear it from Claire. He turned back to Kasey, crossing his newly freed arms. "Claire's right, you should probably avoid doing that again." He said seriously, before grinning. "After all, you should save that for the bad guys."

"Well that depends if I ever get my web shooters back." She replied, a small frown on her face. "Tony took them from me earlier. Kinda hard to fight anyone without them..."

"We could ask him to bring them back when he heads back over?" Claire offered.

"I feel like that's pushing it..." Kasey sighed, glancing away.

"Hey, I'm sure if he can fix this, all that arguing and stuff will be in the past." Matt reassured her. "Speaking of, have we heard anything back from Pepper or the other two?"

"Uh... no. Not-" the phone buzzed on the table, calling out Tony's name.

Kasey brought it over to Matt.

"Thanks." Matt took the phone from Kasey. He pressed the accept button and clicked the speaker mode for the other two to be able to hear. "You guys alright?"

"Hey, uh... yeah. We're okay. A little roughed up but we'll be fine. We got some good information but they were expecting us." Tony explained.

"Trapped us in the room where we found the portal and had the information we were after. Flooded it with a sleeping gas or something." He sighed.

"Webs and I were separated and locked up. She had it rougher than I did but she'll recover... The main problems we have now is unless Pepper finds all of it, they have blood samples and they unmasked her and recognized her... this potentially means they know Spideys identity as well."

Kasey's eyes widened as she listened, Claire pulling her into a hug to keep her calm.

Matt leaned against the kitchen counter, and set the phone down as well. These kids really couldn't catch a break, could they? He doubted that the Blackout corps would be the type to keep the identities a secret. "But you guys found something that could help?"

"I hope so. I took some scans and data and I'm hoping to recreate a room they had that could simulate different universal frequencies." He explained.

"If it works then it should be able to be a last resort safe space until we can find a way to make it so she's stable outside it too."

Kasey listened quietly, happy to hear that he wasn't going down the "contain until we can send home" path anymore.

Matt let out a breath of relief, glad to know they were on the same page now. At least mostly, as Matt didn't exactly understand some of the terminology. "That's good. Thanks for sticking your neck out to help Kasey on this."

"Of course. I was expecting some type of fight which is why I wanted Aurora to stay behind but we didn't have time to argue." He sighed on the other end of the phone. "How is she, or I guess if she's listening, how are you doing, Kasey?"

"Oh, uh... I'm okay right now. Worried about you guys but I'm alright." She replied.

"Good. I am going to get working on the room and see if I can find something that you can bring with you as well. Let me know if anything changes, alright?"

"I'll be sure to let you know." Matt replied. He was glad to hear that they were alright for the most part, and glad that they were working towards a solution. "Try and update us on whatever you figure out."

"I'll do my best." He agreed. "And let me know if anything changes, alright?"

Kasey nodded a little at that but stayed quiet.

"Will do." Matt nodded and hung up, turning his head in the direction of Kasey. He listened for a moment, the quiet of the apartment taking over before he spoke again.

"You okay Kase?"

She nodded slowly. "Y-yeah... I'm... yeah." She took a shaky breath but otherwise she did sound okay. "I'm just... I wouldn't say happy but... relieved? I guess? To hear they're okay..."

Claire gently squeezed her shoulder. "Come on, let's go sit down."

Kasey nodded at that and let her lead her to the couch.

Matt followed after them, taking a seat on one of his chairs and propping his leg up on the coffee table. "But are you okay? It's fine and everything to be worried about your friends, but are you alright, personally?"

Kasey started to hesitate before taking a deep breath and letting herself relax next to Claire. "I'm continuously worn out and feel like I'm zoned the hell out but at least I'm not glitching or whatever." She replied.

Matt listened and heard her out. "If you need anything, make sure to speak up and let us know so we can help. What's happening may not be normal, but how you feel is normal."

She hesitated but nodded. "Okay." She agreed. "I'm just... tired at the moment..." She leaned against Claire with a small yawn. "Cause I keep wasting my energy..."

"If you'd like to rest some more, you're more than welcome to." Matt told her. He wanted her to feel at home here, and that meant feeling comfortable to sleep or do whatever, whenever.

"I might... I don't want to but I guess I need to if my body is this worn down..." She sighed softly.

"You're healing. It's normal to be this tired." Claire replied.

"Doesn't mean I like it though..."

"And all we have to do now is wait for Tony to do his work. It's no use forcing yourself awake, or stressing yourself out. It's about time you just sat back, and relaxed." Matt told her. He wanted her to be happy, to be unbothered and relaxed.

She took a deep breath but nodded. "Okay..." She agreed before humming softly as Claire gently nudged her.

"Let's get you in bed." Claire guided her into the bedroom.

"Sleep well, Kasey. Don't be afraid to let us know if we can help with anything." Matt reminded her. He stayed in the seat he had chosen, having had enough movement for the next few hours. He listened, hearing Claire take Kasey back to the bedroom.

Kasey was soon tucked into bed and fast asleep again.
