Chapter 80
Peter poked his head in the door to May's bedroom. "May?" He was speaking in soft, breathy whispers so as not to agitate his throat too much.
May looked up from a book she had been reading. "You two doing alright in there?" She asked, having assumed they might've needed something. "Don't speak if it hurts."
"Yeah, Aura and I are doing alright. She suggested making some cookies for Happy for helping and putting up with us and I suggested making some to take to Kasey too-" He signed.
"Oh!" May closed her book and set it on the nightstand. "That's a wonderful idea! You kids want some help with all of that?" She didn't mind helping them out at all.
He nodded. "Thought it'd be a good distraction from everything." He explained.
"Well I think you're right. It's just what the doctor ordered." May pushed herself up from where she was sitting, heading over towards the door. "What kind?"
"I remember Kasey liking your snickerdoodle so we were thinking about doing that."
"I'm so glad she liked those, and they were so fun to make!" She chirped, heading into the kitchen area, motioning for the two to follow.
Aurora got up from the couch and carefully made her way into the kitchen area.
Peter made sure she made it okay and stood next to May. "What do you need me to grab?"
May pulled out a recipe card and read over it. "Go ahead and get the flour, sugar, and shortening. But make sure not to grab the powdered sugar." She then turned to Aurora. "There should be eggs and butter in the fridge."
Aurora turned, opening the fridge to take out the required ingredients.
Peter easily located what he was asked for and set them on the counter for her. "Alright, here we go."
"Great!" May got the remaining ingredients, following the instructions on the card. She mixed the items together, and set the bowl within reach. "Now you just take a little, ball it up, and put it on the greased pan."
"Don't we roll it in the cinnamon sugar first?" Peter asked. "Or do we have it melt on after they're done?"
May stopped and held the card up, reading it over before letting out a light laugh. "No, you're definitely supposed to roll them in the cinnamon sugar first."
Peter grinned and carefully pulled out the container of already made cinnamon sugar. "Here,"
May took the container and began rolling out the balls of dough.
Aurora watched, before her eyes drifted over to the flour. She grew a devious smirk and used a small plastic measuring cup to scoop some up. "Peter, catch."
Peter was taking the dough May rolled and putting them into the sugar when Aurora called out to him and he had no time whatsoever to catch the measuring cup before he thrust his hand out and managed to catch it!
He would've been proud of himself if not for the fact he was rewarded with being blinded and covered by the flour that exploded from the cup, making him stumble back in surprise and fall back, now sitting on the ground, coated in flour, confused as hell, the cup still clutched in his hand but had dumped the rest of the flour out.
Aurora watched gleefully as the powder bursted from the cup, even if he had managed to catch it. Try as she might, she couldn't hold back the playful laugh coming from her chest. "Sorry Peter-" She paused to try and calm herself. "I really couldn't help myself!"
May was surprised, to say the least, but what more was she to expect with having them both over? She was glad to see them acting better than when they had come in. "Just clean up what you spill!"
Peter started to laugh too only to start coughing on the dust and try to wave it away but only seemed to make it dustier. Any movement only threw more flour into the air making him cough harder, struggling to breathe as every breath pulled flour into his mouth, starting to thicken the more he coughed.
His eyes stung from the flour dust in them and tears brimmed them as he coughed harder, his throat flaring in pain as he did.
"Peter-?" Aurora's laugh quickly stalled, and concern grew on her face. "Oh my god Peter!" She immediately felt awful for such a stupid impulsive decision. She stepped towards him, trying not to stir up anymore flour. Damn did she have to throw that much too?? "Crap, are you okay??" She spoke hurriedly.
Peter tried to wave her off but only caused the dust to flare again as he curled up a bit, flour spilling from his hair that was also coated with the substance, struggling to breathe as his body continued to try to reject the flour as that wasn't supposed to be in his lungs.
"I'm sorry!" She yelped, trying to get rid of some of the flour in the air. It was making her panic, thinking that she caused him harm again. She grabbed a paper towel and ran it under a bit of water, holding it out for him. "Try and cover your mouth until the flour settles." She had no idea if that would work.
Peter accepted it and did as she instructed, continuing to cough and struggle to breathe but it was restricting more from getting in.
It took a minute but he was finally able to breathe again, still coughing a little bit as the flour slowly started to settle.
Aurora went ahead and turned on the fan over the stove, and tried to clear some of the dust from the air. She returned next to him, trying to brush off some of the flour from him. "God I'm sorry-"
May watched the two, in a bit of shock. One minute, she was rolling snickerdoodles, the next there was flour covering her nephew. She brushed her hands off on a towel and went over to help her some of the flour off of him. She ruffled his hair, sending some more flour to the floor. "Well. Someone's taking a shower later."
Peter let them both try to clean him up best he could until he was finally able to stand back up. He leaned against the counter, his back to them both and still holding the paper towel over his mouth as some flour was still in the air but it was a lot clearer now.
Aurora stood behind him, anxiously watching him. She felt rigid, and nearly sick to her stomach. "Are you okay..?"
May used the towel she had been using earlier to dust the flour from her hands, before dropping it on the floor. She stepped on it and navigated it around to help gather the flour into one area.
Peter didn't reply for a moment before she suddenly felt his hand on her head and something slimy coming from whatever just cracked on her head- oh.
Peter's eyes were sparkling with mischief despite the cloth over his nose and mouth.
Aurora paused her panic, feeling something indescribably gross slick down her hair. Her rigidness remained, as she reached up to feel whatever goop he had just dropped on her. "Peter Parker, did you just crack an egg on my head-"
May covered her mouth, attempting to hide the laugh that was making its way through her.
He pulled his hand away, revealing the bits of eggshell in his grip and the slime that followed.
He was clearly grinning even if she couldn't see it, a small chuckle coming from him as he disposed of the eggshell, signing at her, "Vengeance!"
"You little shit-" As much as she wanted to be petty, she couldn't help but break into a smile and start laughing again. All that panic just to get smacked with an egg.
May rolled her eyes with a smirk, moving the flour towel to a corner for cleanup later.
"You started it!" He argued with her, trying not to send himself into another coughing fit. "I'm going to go clean off, alright? I'll be back in a bit. You might wanna rinse your hair out in the sink." He pointed out to her before disappearing off to the bathroom.
"While you two clean up, I'll go ahead and throw the cookies in." May told them both, brushing her hands off before going back to the dough balls.
Technically, he wasn't wrong, so she couldn't confidently argue back. She went over to the kitchen sink and turned it on, dipping down to try and rinse out the raw egg. "Gross..."
Peter had grabbed a clean outfit from his room before dipping into the bathroom. Once he closed the door, he covered his clothes up with a towel to protect them as he tried to brush off any remaining flour. Once he was satisfied with that and the fan dealt with any lingering dust, he sighed and pulled the paper towel away only for his eyes to widen in shock when he saw blood staining the wet towel.
He was suddenly aware of the iron taste mixed with that cakey flour still in his throat and felt sick as he coughed up more of the flour in a small fit only for his throat to flare with sharp pain and coughed harder, staring in horror at the blood he was coughing up again and could feel starting to fill his mouth and throat again-
And a lot of it.
Shit.
Aurora used the sprayer to rinse out her hair, successfully getting out any of the egg goop from her hair. She didn't hear it until she turned off the water, but she could still hear him coughing from the bathroom. Grabbing a clean towel, she pressed it against her hair to dry it quicker. While she felt a bit better since he got revenge, it didn't stop her from feeling guilty. "He's still coughing a lot..."
May glanced at her. "He probably still has flour stuck in his throat-" She started to reply but heard him cough harder, hardly stopping to be able to breathe. She frowned, starting to get worried as well. "Peter? You alright?" She called to him but it still sounded like he was coughing up his lungs.
"How much did he breathe in-?" She asked, starting to get worried all over again. This time it was different, there was no follow up joke or anything. Aurora started towards the bathroom, making it about halfway when a sort of vibration echoed in her head. "Oh no-!"
"Aurora?!" May called after her as she watched her bolt towards the bathroom, and she opened the door just in time to see Peter collapse to the floor, hitting his head on the floor as he landed on his side.
May heard the thud and quickly put down what was in her hands and ran over. "Peter?!"
Aurora bolted into the bathroom, taking in the scene. Peter had collapsed right there in front of her, and the towel was sitting on the... sink... "May!" She shrieked. "May, there's blood!"
The panic set in again and she stepped over Peter, kneeling beside him. She checked him over, relieved to find some sort of pulse, but distressed to find he was unresponsive. "Peter? Please don't do this-!"
May got to the door and her eyes widened as she swore loudly. "Shit! I'll call Tony-" She turned to go find her phone quickly. "Make sure he won't choke on it!" She called back to her.
Aurora wanted to speak up, to tell May not to, but she couldn't. She knew that Peter needed help. She held his head gently, and made sure he stayed on his side. That way none of it would gather in the back of his throat. "I'm so sorry.." She trembled.
