Chapter 78

Peter waited for Atlas to answer, unsure if he would.

Aurora tucked her phone away, glancing over at Peter. "Anything?"

"No-"

"Hello! I'm sorry but Kasey's sleeping right now- is it important?" Atlas suddenly spoke up.

"Oh-" Peter put him on speaker and looked at Aurora. "can you??"

"Oh, yeah." Aurora spoke, choosing her words carefully in case the message was relayed in front of the others later. "It's Aurora and.. Spidey. We're calling to let you know we're okay, and to see how you're doing. We found a... a file, in the tower, and we were hoping you could help us understand a few things from it."

"I will let her know!" Atlas happily replied. "She's pretty worn out at the moment so it may be a few hours before she's awake again." He explained.

"Thank you Atlas." Aurora told him, looking up at Peter. "What's she so exhausted from?"

"She just had a breakdown a bit ago that wiped her out pretty bad. On top of the stress of the situation with Mr. Stark, she's just tired." He explained.

Peter frowned at that. He hated that it was stressing her out that badly...

"Oh, thanks Atlas..." Aurora couldn't help but think that it was getting worse.

"Of course! Let me know if you need anything else, alright? I'm sure she'll be happy to talk with you both."

"Of course Atlas." She responded. Her chest ached, and she couldn't tell if it was from being upset or the wounds she suffered earlier.

"Is that everything?" He asked them. "Also... Peter called but hasn't said anything???" He sounded confused.

Peter flinched and looked at Aurora nervously.

Aurora's gaze flickered up at Peter. "Sorry, I had to call using his phone. He's healing up right now and I didn't want to bother him."

"Oh! Alright! I'll let her know you called!" Atlas told them. "If that's everything then I'll talk to you guys later!" He chirped.

"Yep, that will be all. Thank you again Atlas." Aurora spoke, waiting for the line to end.

"Of course! Bye bye!" He disconnected the call and Peter sighed.

"It sucks to hear she's that stressed out..."

Aurora nodded and leaned forward, pressing her face into her hands. She just wished all of this would be over already. She wished Tony would go back to normal, that the Black Out corps would get off their backs, and that Kasey could have a normal life.

"When did this get so complicated and messed up?" He asked with a tired sigh and leaned back.

"I don't know. I really don't know. But I hate it." She wished she could go out and fix it, to give Tony a what for, and to get rid of that corporation for good.

"Same. It's exhausting..." Peter huffed as he stretched out a bit. "Are you hungry at all?" He asked as he carefully got up.

Aurora shook her head silently, her mind still turning over and over again. Even though she knew she hadn't eaten in a while, she wasn't hungry.

"Alright. I'm getting a snack." He signed before finding a bag of chips and bringing them back over and sitting down with a sigh.

"Alright." Aurora responded. She shifted herself so she was laying on the couch instead of sitting. She really just wanted to get away for a while.

Peter snacked on the chips for a bit before curling up in the chair. Eating kinda hurt his throat so he didn't do it for long and sipped on the water he got instead.

How bad had they hurt him? His throat shouldn't be this sore still, right?

"Still hurting?" Aurora asked after a little bit. She was concerned for him, having thought he would've somewhat healed by now.

Peter gave a small nod. "I don't know why though. It shouldn't be hurting this bad..."

"I'm wondering if those knives had something to do with it." Aurora spoke. After all, they did some serious damage.

"Probably knowing our luck..." He sighed. "I don't even know which one he used on me... just that it hurt like hell."

Aurora heard that and wanted to curl into herself. She had been trying not to think about it. "I'm sorry."

Peter glanced over and frowned, pushing up and coming over to her and sitting on the floor in front of her. "Aura, I don't blame you. I made a stupid decision that got myself hurt. Please, I know it's hard not too, but please, don't blame yourself for this." He whispered softly to her, not bothering to sign this time.

"I know that I shouldn't. I know that." Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes. "But if I had just gotten out of there in the first place you'd be fine."

Peter shook his head. "They didn't let you leave, right? They engaged you first? Besides... had it not been for Kasey... or whatever that was... I wouldn't have been there to help you either."

"I could've gotten away at some point." She hated that she let her emotions get the better of her. It had been happening a lot lately and she hated it. "But I'd rather see you okay."

Peter sighed softly and leaned against the couch. "I appreciate that. Really, I do. But you would've been taken." He replied. "Neither myself or Kasey would've been able to forgive ourselves for it..."

Aura hadn't really thought about that. She hadn't thought about what it would mean for them if it had only been her. "I didn't think of how that would've affected you guys..." She mumbled tiredly.

"Don't blame you, it was kinda chaos." He pointed out. "But really Aura. I'll heal. I've been through a hell of a lot worse."

"I know." Maybe it was just the stress she'd been under, but she felt awful. Awful from the wounds, awful from her emotions, awful from everything. "I don't think I've had anything top that."

A small laugh came from him, a small soft cough following but he was smiling. "That's a good thing though, right? At least in some aspects?" He pointed out.

Well, that laugh made her feel a bit better. "You're not wrong. I guess I could look at it as getting over the hump." She shrugged lightly.

He coughed as he laughed a bit too hard. "Aura!" He quietly hissed at her, smiling. "That is not what you should do!"

"What?" Aurora laughed lightly, finding it hard for her spirits not to be lifted even a little bit.

"You shouldn't be looking to see how much damage you can take and walk away from!" He laughed, gently shoving at her non-injured shoulder.

"Excuse you, I technically didn't walk away from anything." Aura corrected jokingly. "I was subsequently dragged and driven away."

"Hmm. You have a point." He grinned. "You were really carried mostly I think- Though I'm pretty sure I got dragged- and then Happy carried me to the car."

"Happy did? I really need to make him some cookies or something." She thought aloud. Happy always was there when they needed him.

"I'm sure he'd love that." Peter laughed. "May would probably enjoy helping you make some if you feel up to it."

"I'll have to ask her about it." Aurora replied with a smile. She was honestly glad to be talking with him, it made her feel a lot better to be talking about normal things. Well, their kind of normal.

"Oh! Maybe we can make something for Kasey!" He suggested, his eyes lighting up in excitement.

"You're right!" She snapped her fingers, wondering how she hadn't thought of that. "Do you have any idea what she'd like?"

"I think she liked the snickerdoodles that May made one time-" He replied. "We could make those?"

"Snickerdoodles are always good. We'll be sure to make some." Aura nodded. This was also a way to keep her occupied.

Peter grinned. "You wanna rest first or you wanna do it now?"

Aurora thought for a moment, and finding that she was in better spirits than before, she figured it wouldn't hurt to start now. She waved a dismissive hand. "I can rest when I'm dead. We can start the cookies."

Peter laughed. "May might disagree with that but I'll go get her." He stood up and went to find her in her room.
