Chapter 67

Foggy was still awake and working on a case file when Matt called. He looked confused but answered. "Hey, what's up?"

"Something happened, Kasey ran off to-" He paused, focusing on what was important. "She fell off of a roof and she needs help, I can't get to her, but Claire is with her right now and needs an extra set of hands." He blurted out.

Foggy's eyes widened. "Tell me where," He told him, getting up and grabbing his keys.

Matt told him the rough location of where he had heard Kasey fall, and told him as much of the details as he could. "Last I heard she was unresponsive."

Foggy swore under his breath as he headed to his car. "Let Claire know I'm on the way, alright?" He told him as he got into the car.

"I will." He hung up and once again dialed Claire up. He was anxious to hear if there had been any changes.

"Foggy's on his way over. Shouldn't be long now."

Claire nodded as she answered the phone and listened. "Great, she's still-"

Kasey started to stir, catching Claire's attention.

"Kasey?"

She blinked her eyes open and started to try to jerk up but Claire held her down.

"Woah, hey, you can't move right now-"

Kasey panicked when she felt someone holding her down and tried to pull free.

"Kasey, please! You need to calm down-" Claire tried but she wouldn't respond to her.

"Is she awake?" Matt asked, panic creeping into his voice. If she was awake but still unresponsive, then that might mean she still is overwhelmed.

"This is going to sound weird, Claire, but hear me out." He offered. "Guide her hands to your face. It's strange, but she might be able to tell who you are by touch."

Claire hesitated. "I don't think I can, if I let go of her, she's gonna hurt herself." She replied. "I can't let her move too much."

Kasey continued to struggle in her grasp, baring her teeth a bit as a warning as she wasn't sure who was there. She didn't want to just bite. She really didn't- But she was scared.

"She's scared, and if she's closed off from all of her senses, she probably is panicking because she doesn't know who you are." Matt explained to her. He had hoped if Kasey knew it was Claire, she'd calm down.

Claire was about to reply when Foggy arrived.

"Hey, I got here as fast as-" He stopped when he saw Kasey struggling against Claire and hurried over.

"What's going on?"

"She can't hear any of us. She can't figure out who I am-" She explained.

Foggy frowned before his eyes widened. "Hang on," He pulled one of the cards for their firm out of his pocket and placed it in her hand and she stopped in confusion.

She felt it over and read the braille as she calmed down.

Foggy guided her back over his name on the card and she stopped thrashing. "Foggy?" She mumbled but couldn't hear her own voice.

He gently squeezed her hand to confirm it.

Claire looked at him in surprise before smiling. "Thanks." She told him and he nodded back.

"What happened?" She asked.

He turned her hand over and traced letters into her palm.

She quietly repeated them before asking, "I fell?"

He squeezed her hand with a nod before doing it again.

"Stay down? Who else is here?"

Again.

"Claire?"

A squeeze.

"O-Okay..."

Matt heard her calm down on the other end, and sat down on the couch with a huff. Of course Foggy would've had an idea like that. He was just glad Foggy had been able to make it.

"Is she okay?" He wondered if her healing factor would help her to recover from something that severe.

Claire had Foggy tell her that she was gonna look at her injuries and to say if anything felt wrong or painful.

"I-is my backpack down here?" She asked, trying to keep her eyes open as the pain started setting in.

Foggy spotted it and placed it in her hands and she pulled out her goggles. "Atlas can run a body scan and show you anything you might miss." She explained, handing it to Claire.

She carefully took it and placed it on as Foggy asked if she was sure.

Kasey sighed. "We don't have much of a choice right now." She replied. She powered Atlas on. "Just tell him what you need."

"Kasey-? Where are we?! What's- Kasey!" Atlas sounded distressed when he saw her and quickly realized Claire was in possession of his eyes. "Here, let me open the lenses." The two main lenses opened and he ran a scan, allowing Claire to see what he saw. It was as if she was looking at an x-ray print but it real time.

There weren't any super serious injuries that her healing factor wouldn't take care of over a bit of time and some medical care. She did hit her head pretty bad but it was already working on healing that. It was likely she had a concussion and a fractured rib along with several bruised ones as well.

"Yeah, she'll be okay. Her healing factor should be able to take care this all pretty quickly thankfully. It looks like we can bring her back as long as we move her carefully." She told Matt.

Foggy relayed it to her as well and she nodded carefully. "M-Mkay..." She agreed. "My head's really starting to hurt though..."

Claire gently squeezed her shoulder in reassurance.

Matt smiled, and thanked God that she was alright. When she had fallen off the building, the mere sound of it was enough to make him truly panic.

"I'll get the place ready for her. Make it someplace for her to heal in." He stood up and limped over to his crutch. Once he had it he gathered some simple things and set them on the bedside table so they'd be within reach. Things like aspirin, water, etc.

Claire started to open her mouth to tell him off but remembered how lost he had sounded when he wasn't able to help find her or go get her himself and stopped. "Just, be careful moving around, alright?" She told him gently as she helped Kasey up to her feet and keep her steady.

Foggy handed her the phone as he helped them to her car. "She still can't seem to hear us though. I'm not sure if that's from overstimulation or hitting her head at this point."

"I'm being as careful as possible." Matt assured her, not wanting to upset her any. "Let's hope it's not any sort of head damage. The overstimulation should go away with time, but it will take time."

Claire nodded. "Alright. Well, we're gonna head your way, Foggy, are you gonna come over too?"

He nodded. "Yeah, might as well follow you over." He agreed.

"Alright, we'll be there shortly." She told Matt before hanging up, making sure Kasey was settled down and hopped into her car, Foggy heading to his.

Matt even added a couple blankets on top of the bed for some added comfort weight. Once he had everything set up, he moved his way over to the chair, sitting down with a light groan. His leg aches from the movement, but he didn't mind. If it helped Kasey, then he would be fine.

It only took a few minutes to get back to the apartment and Claire and Foggy helped Kasey inside and guided her up the stairs. She stumbled a bit but held onto the railing despite the unpleasant sensation it sent through her system.

Claire opened the door to the apartment and led Kasey inside while Foggy closed the door. "Hey, we're back." She called as they came in. "She's still kinda out of it but she's responsive to some stuff which is good." She didn't see him in the living room so she guided Kasey to the bedroom to find him sitting in the chair.

Foggy came in behind them, leaning on the door frame. "I'm pretty sure she was gonna try to fight Claire when I got there, so I'm glad you called."

Kasey was leaning against Claire a bit, feeling her speaking but didn't know what she was saying. She was barely staying on her feet as her whole body ached.

Matt tilted his head upwards from where he was sitting in his chair, listening. All three of their heartbeats greeted him, and he was glad to hear them.

"I set the bed up for her, you can put her there for now." He told Claire, before responding to Foggy.

"That probably wouldn't have ended well, for either of you girls." Matt said with a tired chuckle.

Claire chuckled a bit as she guided Kasey to sit on the bed. "I think I would've had the advantage there," She pointed out.

Kasey felt the texture of the bed and very slightly tensed at the change but pulled herself onto it not a second later.

Claire stepped into the bathroom and got a wet washcloth and sat down by Kasey, tracing on her hand that she was gonna clean the blood from her hair to which Kasey nodded.

She started to carefully wipe her hair as clean as she could. "She's got a fractured rib along with a couple bruised ones, her arms are pretty banged up but not broken thankfully, and by some miracle her head injury wasn't overly serious, that or her spider healing got to it before I did." She told Matt. "She's probably got a concussion though. If she fell from the roof then she fell about nine stories..."

Foggy gazed at the girl sitting numbly on the bed, staring at nothing and letting Claire clean her up. "It's a miracle that's all she walked away with... or that she walked away from it at all. She hit the ground from what it looked like. Nothing under her but the concrete..."

"Maybe she caught herself somewhat on the way down," Claire offered. "I don't know, but I'm just grateful for it-"

"I apologize for interrupting but Stark has overridden my systems. He is aware that I'm here." Atlas spoke up, sounding apologetic. "I will try to keep tabs on his location and let you know when he's headed this way."

"As long as she's here, I'm hoping she'll be able to heal up quickly. We have a lot of things to talk about when she gets back to normal." Matt spoke, running a hand through his hair. He was going to try and teach her as much as he could, without standing anyway.

Before he could speak again he heard Kasey's AI go off and it made him go rigid. If Tony knew she was here... They'd all be in for a world of hurt. "He's probably going to come back."

For the time being, he was grateful that Kasey couldn't hear them.
