Chapter 55

Claire had been doing everything she could to keep Aurora from getting any worse. She was anxious about Kasey seeing as Aurora had tried to beg her not to go or have them stop her but... She glanced towards Matt who had sat down on the stairs with his leg stretched out while they waited.

However, both of them heard Tony take off from where they were.

"Where is he going?" She asked, knowing Matt probably wouldn't know either but for Tony to just... take off? It might be a bad sign...

Matt shook his head, not knowing where. Whatever it was, it must've been important. "He wouldn't have gone unless it had something to do with the other two."

A short while after that, he heard Tony's suit take off again, this time a few rooftops away. The sound faded, confusing Matt and causing him to wonder why Tony had left the area.

The answer came in the form of one teenage spider with a broken ankle barging in through the roof door. "We-" He stopped and corrected himself. "I brought the antidote!" He glanced at Matt and tried to explain. "Kasey got hurt with some of the poison, so Tony had to take her and some of the antidote to the tower, he thought it would be a better place for her to get medical treatment-"

Aurora, who was still laying on the couch, had been passing in and out of consciousness throughout the time that Peter and Kasey were gone. Whenever she passed out, she was once again woken by either the flame feeling originating from her wound, or the fact that she had to gasp for breath.

Claire looked surprised when Peter arrived and even more so when the words just spilled from his mouth.

Kasey had gotten some of the poison too?? But... why couldn't he just bring her here where they could quickly tend to her with the antidotes???

She had been trying to keep Aurora's temperature down this whole time but pushed her other questions aside for now. "Here, hand me one of them." She held her hand out for it.

Peter quickly ran down the stairs, as well as he could, before thrusting the antidote into Claire's open hand.

Matt frowned deeply, knowing Kasey would be upset when she got to the tower. All their talk of letting her stay, only for it to end up like this. He half wondered if he should've restricted the visitors to just Tony, knowing this wouldn't have happened if he was the only one to come.

Claire loaded it into a needle and carefully cleaned and injected it into Aurora's side. "Alright, hopefully that'll start kicking in quickly..." she sighed.

"How bad was Kasey's injury?" She asked, turning to Peter.

Aurora grimaced from the needle, but gritted her teeth through it. All she could do now was wait out the symptoms and wait for the antidote to work. "Th-thanks..."

Peter collapsed in one of the chairs, letting out a shaky sigh. "It- It was pretty bad. She was thrown into the glass of the cabinet, so she had a bunch of cuts from it."

"Wait, like, the cabinet that had the poisons in it?" She sounded concerned.

Peter nodded and leaned forward, dropping his head in his hands. "There was a man waiting there for her, or us, or... any of us I don't know-"

"A trap then..." she sighed. "Makes sense if she got poisoned there. They would have known you'd come for a cure..." she shook her head.

"So he's hoping to take care of Kasey at the tower? What about when she's up again?" She knew Matt would be wondering the same thing.

At this, Matt spoke up. "She's not going to like it, I know that much. I might be able to message Tony to warn him, and to explain everything. I didn't get the chance to explain it to him earlier."

Peter was silent for a moment, his head still in his hands. He was still battling internally with himself, about whether or not this was due to him simply existing.

The pain in his ankle brought him back. "Um, miss-" He hadn't caught her name. "The man that caught us- I think he broke my ankle, with his metal arm. Just grabbed it like it was nothing."

Claire looked up towards him and gave a small smile. "Claire." She told him as she came over to take a look. "He had a metal arm?" She asked him as she carefully started to take in how bad it was.

Peter nodded once again, finally pulling his face from his hands to look at the injury. "Yeah. Dude was like a tank too, took every hit of mine and barely budged."

She frowned at that. "This might hurt for a minute." She made sure it was aligned properly and started to wrap it to put in a small cast. "It'll probably heal pretty quickly now that it's set. I know you guys have a healing factor to some degree." She leaned back and looked at him.

"Do you think he might be enhanced if he was like that?" She asked him.

"Yeah, it should heal up quick now." Peter nodded, rolling his heel left and right to view the wrapping. "Thank you Claire. I don't know if that guy was enhanced, but he's dangerous."

Matt listened in to the conversation, linking the man to be someone like Fisk. Fisk was a hardy man, and difficult to fight. But if there was someone who could take the spider's punches, they had to be hardier than Fisk, and that was too dangerous.

Aurora laid on the couch, silent and waiting for the antidote to work. The relief started at the injection site, and was slowly working its way through the rest of her. At this point she was just tired. Totally and inexplicably tired.

She sighed. "And he's part of the people who are after Kasey, right?" She shook her head.

"She doesn't deserve this... none of you do."

"Yeah. I think he was one of them." Peter agreed, leaning back in the chair.

Matt spoke up. "I'm sure Daredevil will be looking further into it. He'll do what he can to put an end to it." It was a small fib, as Daredevil was out of commission right now.

Claire looked over at him before sighing. "Do you think he'll bring Kasey back when she's stable?" She asked Peter. "Or is he just expecting you two to head back when she is stable?"

Peter frowned, and shook his head. "I- I think he'd probably expect us to go back there? Why?"

Matt leaned forward on the stairs, thumbing the crutch in his hand. "Kasey has made it clear that she'd like some time on her own. And I've offered my home for her to lay low in when she works in Hell's Kitchen."

Aurora heard this and her heart sank. She knew that Kasey wanted independence, but having her in Hell's Kitchen, away from the tower for so long? It was like having a sibling move out of the house.

Claire nodded a bit. "She also seemed to believe that Tony wouldn't agree to it." She explained. "Matt was going to talk to him about it but that wasn't able to happen..."

Peter sighed, and knowing Kasey, she wouldn't be happy at all to have been taken back to the tower. Especially after having obviously been against it. "I should let Tony know, before Kasey wakes up and freaks out on him.."

Aurora frowned, and stared up at the ceiling. Of course. If this wouldn't have happened, then Kasey wouldn't be poisoned, and she'd still be here. Where she felt safe. "...I'm sorry."

Claire looked at Aurora and her eyes softened. "Hey, you didn't know they had poison. It's not your fault. You would have been healed by now had it not been." She tried to reassure her.

"No, I didn't know about the poison. But I did know that something was wrong, even if I kept denying it. And I still chose to come anyway." She spoke softly, still low on strength. Her face was still pale and deathly, but the antidote was quickly working its way through her system, allowing for her healing to kick back into gear.

"You wanted to see Kasey. I know you two had a bit of a fight alongside Tony, so you wanted to come try to clear that up I assume?" She asked her.

"...yeah. I was going to apologize." Aurora responded. That's all she had wanted to do. She just wanted to say she was sorry and to make amends. "Guess I've got to double up on the apologies though."

"I'm sure you'll get to soon. And I don't think she'll blame you for what happened."

Meanwhile, Tony had gotten Kasey to the tower, hooked up and was making more of the antidote as he had Atlas give him the reports from the last few days. According to Atlas there were about 25 vials in the cabinet when it broke on Kasey so... 25 antidotes it was.

He finally got that all set up and had it pumping into Kasey's system as it finished while he reviewed some of the footage.

He watched her tear apart Hell's Kitchen after running off, beating people up with little to no mercy. He watched her go after one guy with no restraint and Atlas begged her not to kill him but was shut off.

Tony also found the recording of Kasey talking with Matt about her past but didn't listen to it. Not without her permission.

The footage of the basement fight. Her- Oh.

He took a shaky breath as he listened to the chaos and the man's screams when she bit him. And the man's arm... He rubbed his face and sighed, glancing over at her sleeping form as she recovered.

What was he supposed to do? She was out of control and clearly still mad at him but he couldn't just... let her run around and risk her killing more people... And he wouldn't let a civilian deal with her just because he couldn't...

So what was he supposed to do? He couldn't just keep her here... She'd hate him forever. But... If she kept this up, he might not have a choice.
