Chapter 52

Kasey was navigating her way towards Black Out, having given Atlas a vague idea of where it would be.

She was back up on the roof tops, jumping across with ease when she sensed Peter following her but didn't slow down. "I told you to stay there." She called out just loud enough for only him to easily hear it.

Peter followed after her, determined not to lose her. He didn't know Hell's Kitchen very well, but he knew how to cross rooftops, and how to tail someone, so he stuck to what he knew.

"I know what you told me, but I can't let you go in there alone. If they were able to do that to her, what's to stop them from doing it to you?" He called out in response.

She gave a low chuckle. "They'd have to find me first." And she leapt onto a higher rooftop, disappearing just out of sight.

Peter jumped on top of the rooftop, noticing she had literally disappeared. He stilled, not knowing which direction to go. "Karen, can you tune in to Atlas's location??" He asked his AI.

"I shall request a link." She replied. A moment later, she spoke up again. "Link established. Atlas is currently located behind you."

Peter waited for the connection, only to nearly jump out of his skin. He whirled around, expecting Kasey to be right behind him. "What-?!"

And she was, her arms crossed in front of her, looking unamused. "I can handle myself, Peter. Aurora needs you and Tony." She told him firmly.

"I can't do anything for her right now. But I can watch your back for you." Peter told her, standing his ground. "I have full trust that you can handle something like this, but it doesn't hurt to have help."

She hesitated before sighing. "Alright, fine but we're doing it my way, got it?" She asked him.

"Absolutely." He nodded, not about to argue to one of his friends while the other needed them to keep moving. "What's the plan?"

"Well, first of all, it's a stealth mission if at all possible. Hence why I was asking you to stay back. Because well... they won't be able to see me." She explained a bit hesitant.

Peter frowned, glancing at her oddly. "What do you mean they won't be able to see you? Last time I checked, you're just dressed in an oversized hoodie. It's not even camo." He stated. (edited)

She shifted a bit. "How do you think I got behind you?"

Peter thought for a moment and shrugged. "... stealth?" He asked, before realizing he really had no idea.

She smiled, just a little bit before suddenly vanishing right before his eyes. "I learned a new trick or two." Her voice came from behind him again.

Peter whirled around again, finding that he still couldn't see her. "You can turn invisible? That's so cool!"

She nodded as she reappeared. "It's pretty handy. It, uh, helped out a lot earlier..." She shifted a bit before shaking her head. "But we need to be quick and quiet. And I need you to find anything referring to a type of toxin that might get us an antidote. Stay out of sight as much as possible. I'll distract them. Can you do that?"

Peter nodded, determination crossing his face. "I'll look for an antidote or toxin file. Got it." There were only a huge bunch of offices to go through...

"Alright. Stay close." And with that she took off again.

Peter followed her direction, taking off after her. He stayed close, going over the plan in his head, again and again.

They finally were a building away now and she stopped. "Can you find your own way in or do you want to go together?"

"I think I can make my way in." He turned towards her. "Please be careful. I don't want another friend down."

"You too." She told him before vanishing and leaping over to the other roof top and working her way inside.

Peter hopped over to the other roof, controlling his steps so they came off quieter. He climbed down the side of the building, sticking his hand to a window and pulling it upward to open it.

Once it opened he flipped inside silently.

He could hear lots of movement from all over the building. They seemed to be in a bit of a frenzy at the moment but no one was close by.

Peter waited and listened, before making his way around the room. He went searching through any files there, before finding nothing relevant to toxins. He moved on, slipping into the hallway.

There were three other offices in the hallway for him to explore.

Kasey meanwhile was moving swiftly through the area, avoiding everyone and having Atlas scan for any traces of the same toxin. He picked up on a trace and led her down the hallways towards the nearest lab.

Peter kept quiet, peeking into the next office. He snapped back against the wall, having spotted a shadow moving within the office. He jumped across the doorway, headed to the next office.

Kasey had Atlas hack the lab door and stepped inside, almost immediately stepping back from the chemical smell in the room.

She pushed forward and looked around for anything that might help before finding a cabinet full of vials.

She opened it and had Atlas scan them, searching for what they needed.

"It's not here. It was, but it's not anymore." He told her and made another scan as they left to try to find it.

Peter peeked into the next room, cursing softly when he noticed a man in that office as well. Seeing as this was a stealth mission, he didn't exactly want to blow his cover.

Crawling up onto the ceiling, Peter flattened himself against the ceiling tiles and had Karen put on a voice filter. "I can't believe they're giving out free doughnuts and bagels in the cafeteria!"

He laid and waited, before the office man scurried out of the office in the direction of what Peter assumed to be the cafeteria. He waited a few moments and dropped, heading into the office.

Kasey went up a floor to the next lab and ran another scan.

"It's here! The cabinet on the left! There's a file with it!" Atlas told her and she grabbed the file, sealing it with webbing and putting it in her backpack.

She broke the cabinet open carefully and shuddered at the smell of the chemicals a bit, webbed a handful of them up protectively and wrapped it in a ball of web and put it in her backpack too.

"Wait! Over there- there's another cabinet with a similar chemical but... it's a bit different."

Kasey grabbed one. "What's it say?"

"Antidote!" Atlas chirped excitedly.

"Perfect!" Kasey grabbed a few of those as well and did the same trick before turning to the cabinets and webbing both of them and was about to pull them to the floor when the door slammed open behind her.

"I thought I'd find you in here, little spider."
